(S03E24) "All rocks. Very typical." - Bailey
Speaking of typical? This episode. But trust me... after last week's spin-off installment of Grey's Anatomy, it was a welcome return to the show that I've come to expect. We weren't left without hints of what transpired last week though. Besides Sloan's incessant desire to know how Addison's week in the sun went, Dr. Montgomery was continually bombarded all episode long with pregnant women. A slap-in-the-face to help us recall what we found out last week - she can't conceive. If this keeps up into next week's finale, it'll make sense though. What better catalyst to send Addison to LA and take Naomi up on her job offer than constant reminders that she has "fossilized eggs?" Frankly, I'm not sure that I care. Addison wasn't in this episode all that much and while that says nothing about the spin-off, it proves that the original will be just fine without her.
So as the title suggests, it's intern exam day at Seattle Grace. Following the death of Susan and the slap from Thatcher (it feels weird to call him her dad), Meredith continued making appearances on her "My Life Sucks 2007 World Tour." This week's show? Staring blankly into space and not answering a single question on her exam. That's no good.
Now don't get me wrong. I feel for her. I really do, but I'm having a hard time relating to why she feels so bad about Susan's death. She knows it's not her fault, despite what Thatcher says. But Susan was in so few episodes, that I can't understand how we're supposed to buy into the relationship Meredith had with her when we as viewers never had a chance to develop one. So she's gone, and essentially all her character has been become is just another reason for Derek and Meredith to continue becoming a distant couple. At this point, I'm all for them breaking up. The show is no longer focused on Meredith and as a result her love-life is less of a concern for me. Derek should totally have taken that chick from the bar up on her offer. Me? I love free drinks.
Moving on to Rebecca Pope. Wait... who's that? Oh right, Jane Doe/Ava has a name and apparently she knew it the whole time. Now there's something I didn't see coming. Just when I thought this was starting to feel like Denny Duquette all over again, we finally get a creative twist. I'm all for this as long as she doesn't sleep with Alex, which is too bad since the only reason (other than the fact that she hates her old life) for her faking it is that she seems to have quite the crush on Karev. Fake amnesia, get waited on hand and foot by hot doctor longer. Good plan actually. So now what happens when Karev informs the police of who she is? Let's just be thankful that she has no wires attached to her that can be "cut."

I'm just waiting for Callie to punch Izzie. It's gonna be hilarious. Speaking of Callie... I really hope she beats out Bailey for Chief Resident. It'd be nice to see Bailey get jaded by her career a little and perhaps spend some more time with her husband and son. She worships Weber, but she's becoming him in more ways than one.

Meredith got to take the exam again... but what if she still fails? That is a possibility right?

George's little spiel about your parents dying was pretty interesting. Your folks pass and you make bad decisions that you have to live with. He said something along those lines. Now I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure this is the first time where he's come out and said that he regrets marrying Callie. That is what he meant... right?

I don't like Adele. Did she really need to come back? What does it matter that she's pregnant? Unless Richard is the father? How long ago was it that they were together?
So next week is the season three finale. There's supposed to be a wedding, but I'm guessing that Burke gets cold feet. Every week goes by and he seems to get more and more uneasy about his future with Cristina. Here's to hoping that our season finale isn't just a happy ending. As far as this episode goes, as I said earlier - it was a welcome return to normalcy. 5 out of 7.

Chrysta! OMG, good point! I didn't even think of that but that's very possible! And I've already read somewhere that whoever she is, she's slated to be around next season so your hunch may be right!! I can't wait for next week!!!

I'm with you on Callie punching Izzy. I love Callie, and she deserves a better, stronger man than George. And whatever happened to the story arc on Izzy's daughter? The kid shows up in one episode and then disappears.
Regarding Addison, I hope that the spin-off gets picked up. I'd like to get to know those characters.
As for Meredith and McDreamy: the Powers That Be could kill them both off and no one would ever notice. They are the least-interesting characters on the show.

Mer: The "meh" blues hit again, and yet again, she fails to swim. or take a test. whatever. meh.
While I think it's ambitious to try to keep a entire hour of drama wrapped around a girl who's just not made up her mind whether she wants to live or not, I don't see how many fans out there will continue to root for her.
I mean, who's your audience? Is Shondra looking to score commercials for Wellbutrin?

Don't forget Sydney is also going for chief resident. She's just the type of passive-aggressive toady that works the system and organizations love to promote, and it would throw a wrench in both Bailey's and Callie's plans.

I took Meredith's "staring into space" as - OMG, my Mom is dead and my Dad hates me. I felt horrible for her and totally bought it. I agree though, that the wedding isn't going to happen and that Adele didn't need to return (unless she's dead!). Leave the poor chief alone!

UGHHHH!!!! Could Meredith be any more whiny? If I were Derek I would have dumped her ass a long time ago. Everyone has to save Meredith. I'm sick of it! Also, make me PUKE with Izzie and George. That is the most ridiculous couple I can imagine. They look stupid together, they act stupid together. I will quit watching if they end up together. That's how dumb they would be together.

I was completely irritated with the entire episode. I didn't think the spinoff was that bad, however, I would miss Addison at Seattle Grace. I could care less about Izzie and George and the show seems to focus on these characters entirely too much. I miss McDreamy!! This season the character has become a jerk and I hate it. Meredith is portrayed as pathetic and whiny. Season 3 has been a waste for these two characters as well as Dr. Bailey. Dr. Bailey is wonderful but she has not got the air time she is worthy of that is for sure. I don't think the season finale holds much hope for a great cliffhanger. The most anyone can hope for is that Callie punches Izzie and Burke marries the cold Cristina

I'm not sure if it was ratings week???Otherwise, it was cheaper to put the second line of actors/actresses, I really think it is all budget including with the writers.

I think Grey's Anatomy should consider going the way of Lost, and plan to end in season 5 (or 6, or whatever).

This George and Izzie crap is repulsive. It's taking up entirely too much of the show. It's beyond ridiculous.

Meredith & McDreamy sure fizzled out quick! So madly in love one minute & the next minute mcDreamy is hardly interested. Bad writing! Alex is my favorite. George and Izzy are a laugh. They look odd together. Oh well, the show`s better than most. Yikes!

Izzie and George all the way!
I love them together, and I'm loving their drama. If Callie ends up pregnant I'll be annoyed... I mean, you don't have a baby to save your failing marriage, that's not right.
Neither is cheating on your wife though...
But George, like he implied this episode, made a rash decision by marrying Callie when his father died. Something, that if he had been in the right state of mind, he never would have done. That doesn't *excuse* his actions, persay, but it at least makes them understandable. He never truly loved Callie... and she is more to blame for rushing into this marriage, since she knew he wasn't in a good state of mind.
I still feel bad for Callie because I like her, but that doesn't mean that I think that George should stay in a marriage with a woman that he doesn't/never truly loved.
Also, did anyone else find it weird that George wasn't asked to be Burke's best man over Derek, or at least that he wasn't invited to the "bachelor party?"

Did anyone else get the inkling that the hot chic in the bar may have been Meredith's other sister...you know the one in med school, who we've heard of but never met? How's that for a plot twist, McDreamy gets the hots for Meredith's hot little sister, who also happens to be joining the SGH crew for her internship. I mean, isn't this the same fashion in which Meredith & McDreamy met just before the start of her internship, so wouldn't it be fitting? Plus the chic did say she'd had a bad day, as in, 'My mom's funeral was this morning and now I'm here at Joe's to drink my sorrows away.'

I liked the episode. And maybe it's just me, but I HOPE that Izzie and George end up together. I think they would make a great couple. I like Callie but her relationship with George is a complete mis-match. They don't seem good together at ALL so I'm actually hoping they break up. I usually don't go for the "relationship wrecker" type plots but this is one where I think Izzie and George belong together. I think Izzie ends up pregnant! That's just my guess but wouldn't that just be the clincher!? Callie mentioned in this episode how she wants to be pregnant - but I get the feeling Izzie might beat her to it! That would definitely get some drama going. I hope TR Knight stays in the cast. I heard rumors but him AND Isaiah Washington were leaving the cast. I hope that's not true!!!!!

The Grey's spinoff is a recipe for disaster. The Oceanside Wellness Clinic does not have the sexy cache that the Seattle hospitable has. The characters in the spinoff have the potential to become caricatures of themselves. Completely transparent and superficial, these people are boring. They are completely lacking in the complexity and range of emotions we are driven through every Thursday by a cast that works, by situations that are bizarre but somehow believable because we want to believe in them. Remember how weird it was when "Friends" spun off "Joey"? Joey worked in NYC but he was a fish out of water in LA. He stuck out. He was funky and not in a good way. His apartment didn't work for him, either. Same with this situation. Addison, while beautiful and accomplished, would not be happy at a shallow trendy wellness clinic. Sure, she's exhausted the staff at Seattle, but there's always that new guy, patient or doctor who could show up and be THE one. That would not be believable in LA unless it was at a great hospital such as Cedars Sinai. And - even though Addison is a beautiful woman, she's "tragic" and "flawed" because she cannot achieve personal success in the womanliest experience of all, her own chosen profession of child birth. This type of tragic irony belongs in rainy Seattle, not sunny SoCal where every teenager on drugs can have a baby. Do NOT spin off this tale. It will be fodder for the water cooler crowd within a month.

Crysta may be a genius, but I'd swear that we saw Meredith's sister awhile back and Meh didn't want anything to do with her, either. I'm still feeling cheated that last wk's "2-hr Grey's Anatomy" was anything but that. And sicker of George's blank looks than even Meredith's. More patients would be dead with air heads like them emoting on the job.

I get Meredith's reaction. The last lucid words her mother ever said to her was that Meredith was a huge disappointment because she fell in love with Derek, and her father has always been cold towards her, culminating in "the slap." Susan, her step-mother, was the only person related to her to actually accept Meredith for Meredith and she wasn't even being allowed the closure of attending the funeral. I was desperately hoping that Richard would have put Thatcher through a wall (but that may be my reaction to people named Thatcher - long boring irrelevant story).
Nice catch on the girl in the bar Chrysta; I think you're right particularly since I recall that she mentioned it was a rough day for her.
