I loved the creepy, thought provoking and exquisitely acted freshman season of HBO's Big Love and am eager to find out what the writers have come up with for the Henrickson family, now that their polygamist lifestyle has been publicly exposed.
Well, fans won't have to wait much longer to find out how Barb handles the humiliation of being disqualified from the state Mother of the Year contest because her husband Bill is also married to two other women, or whether Bill's string of home improvement stores will suffer from the news.
HBO announced it will air the season two premiere on June 11 at 9 p.m. Note that the show is moving to Monday nights -- leaving its Sunday night perch -- though repeats will air the following Sundays at 8 p.m.
Prior to the premiere episode, HBO is also releasing three prequels that will air on Comcast's HBO On Demand beginning on May 28. However for those who don't have Comcast, the prequels will be available on other HBO On Demand carriers and on its web site a week later, according to a press release.
The three "backstories" are:
"Post-Partum," set five years before the start of season one, after Nicki had just birthed her first child and she worried that the only reason Bill married her was because he couldn't have more children with Barb. (That's my theory.)
"Meet the Baby-Sitter" takes place three years before season one when Bill introduces the new family baby-sitter, and his future third wife, to Nicki. (Yes, the title's unsettling, to say the least. . . it gives a whole new meaning to the phrase, "Get off the baby-sitter.")
"Moving Day," the last prequel, is set a little over a year before season one and features the three wives complaining that they need bigger and better digs in the 'burbs.

HBO always takes us into world's that most of us will never experience with their shows, that is what makes it great, and Big Love is a delicious treat in that tradition.

Why was it creepy? I don't get that.

The creepy part for me was some of the stuff at the "compound" or whatever its called where that old guy is marrying the teenager. (Sorry I'm too lazy to look up any of the characters' names).
I'm glad the show is coming back and I hope it sticks around for a complete run with a definite ending. Perhaps with Chris I-should-have-been-arrested-when-I-canceled-Carnivale Albrecht gone we might get to see this story finish.

I think it's a good show, but it definitely pales in comparison to HBO's best...I hope they bring out something as good as The Sopranos/The Wire/Deadwood/etc.

Big Love was one of my favorite shows last year--easily besting the overrated Sopranos, et al. I am glad to see it returing soon.
