Bones: The Glowing Bones in the Old Stone House

The Glowing Bones in the Old Stone House(S02E21) I am giving you all fair warning: Spoilers Ahead!!!!!

Great orbs of rapid oxidation that create heat, light and smoke! I go away for one week and all of a sudden everyone is jumping into these shotgun weddings. Last week Luka and Abby got hitched in a last-minute ceremony on ER, and now it seems like Hodgins and Angela are going to be tying the knot very quickly as well. Yes, you read right. Angela finally accepted Jack's proposal for marriage. Funny thing is Jack wasn't even trying to ask her. He was just being his quirky, romantic self. But, it hit the right chord in the lovely Ms. Montenegro. So, a wedding is afoot.

I say Thank God to this announcement because maybe they'll settle down a bit. I mean, I thought that their flirting was cute, and that the beginning of their relationship was adorable. However, as the other squints of the Jeffersonian have mentioned, Jack and Angela are jumping each others . . . ahem . . . bones way too much. Maybe they'll settle down a bit once they say 'I Do'.

We can talk about the wedding (if there is one, he said in a foreshadowing tone) next week. In the meantime, let's talk about this week's episode. One of the reasons I like this show so much is because you really learn new things. For example, this week's victim had glowing bones, which everyone thought was the result of some sort of radiation. Turns out that glowing came from bacteria found in seafood. When the bacteria comes in contact with the bones a glowing can result. We don't see that too much because of all that pesky epidermis and underlying tissue that covers the bones. Another thing we learned is that fabric softener helps to clean severed fingers (probably the most disgusting scene of the night) -- something you might want to remember when you cut off your pointer with the pruning shears. Finally, according to Bones herself, Booth appears to be a good breeder due to his symmetrical features. Ah, that's why I have four kids!

This week's mystery was actually interactive. Prior to the airing of tonight's show FOX ran a promotion on their website to guess who the killer would be. If you guessed right, then good for you, because I didn't really know who it was until they did the reveal. I know, since there were only four viable suspects it should have been easy to make an educated guess. I knew it wasn't the victim's husband because he seemed too stupid, but I did think it was the husband's business partner. I also had a feeling that the victim wasn't raped in the car and that she was having an affair with the business partner, but I really couldn't piece it together. When the squints did the reveal it all made sense.

Let's talk about the squints for a moment. I really think Booth needs to review his investigative skills because the squints seem to be solving more and more mysteries lately. That's not a bad thing, mind you: I like to see them working all together to piece together a crime. I know the season ends next week, but I hope that the producers will have Bones and Booth go away one episode and have the squints as the center of the show.

Finally, I want to mention the last scene of this week's show; the one where Booth and Bones are sitting down to a simple meal of mac & cheese. I know some of you out there will say 'Well, that's just one step closer to them getting together'. Nah, I don't think so. I saw it as two very close friends getting together for a quiet dinner. I also saw it as the further humanization of Bones. If you recall in an earlier scene the good doctor was defending herself to Booth saying that she wasn't the cold fish that everyone else thought she was. I think that this was a gesture towards Seely to show that she really was a human being.

Rating 6I'll give this week's episode a rating of 6, with one being the worst and 7 being the best. As you can see below we are playing around with a new polling system for our reviews. So, if you feel the show merited a different rating please let your opinion be known. We'll be back next week for the wedding of the season.

(Bones - S02E21) How do you rate this episode?
