Folks his main audience here in germany were people over 50 back when he was "big" which was about 10 years ago. The reason for him being so popular has many reasons. One of them most likely is that Knight Rider was one of the hit shows on first private TV "network" here in germany called RTL, a channel which started in Luxemburg and then carried over to germany. For most of us germans it was channel number four - before that, we had channels one and two funded solely by the government (we have to pay 20 US$ each month, it's mandatory for every- and anyone who has a TV to pay this fee to insure you get a basic TV service which is independent from private funding). Next to that there was another local channel produced by the local offices of channel one. Back in those days TV for us started at 2pm and was broadcasted until 0am. When the new private channel with Knight Rider went on the air it was amazing to everyone that this would not cost anything extra. They started breakfast-Tv, starting the TV day in the early morning. It was simply amazing to be able to see episodes of Knight Rider every week for years, with reruns following reruns ad infinitum. After the show ended it was almost immediately followed by Baywatch on the second new private channel broadcasted (it started a year later, in 1987 and picked up Baywatch a year or two after it ran in the US). With reruns, Baywatch was broadcasted for about for about 10 years straight.

So that as well as TV appearances on germany's biggest saturday night show "wetten dass?!" helped "The Hoff" extremely to build that audience of people in need for boobage, kids loving KITT, as well as the demographic watching that big saturday night show (which for over 20 years has been raking in the big ratings with a 30% viewer share minimum everytime it is on and up to 60% share 15 to 20 years ago).

Anyway, please don't blame my country for having bad taste - we kind of grew up with Hasselhoff on TV as something that was new and free for about 15 years. First Knight Rider, then the totally new and almost unbelievable feat of boobage on TV during the afternoon (Baywatch ran at 3pm every weekday for about 8 years here rerun after rerun over and over again) :-)

He's obviously having a hard time with growing old. He was wearing his baseball cap backwards the other day. He carries his picture in his hand all the time. He needs to grow up before he becomes a lonely dirty old man.
I never did get into Baywatch or Knight Rider. Try a 12 step program and stick with it. It works if you work it.

I don't personally agree with the way he may go about doing things but I have his first American Album on vinyl, then a second on cassette and finally when I knew someone going to Germany, they brought me another one, a cd, sung in English though, I like his voice and I like Boobwatch despite being a woman, I watched Knight Rider religiously. Maybe I have strange tastes but I will stick by him. Despite erratic behavior. :)

Acording to pam andersons book a few years ago, Hoff should be named Hoss because hes hung like one. He had trouble keeping the lil hoff in the short swimsuit.

I do not hassle David Hasselhoff. I have way Baywatch,Baywatch Nights,Baywatch Hawaii and Night Rider on TV. I am German-Descent. I already know that David Hasselhoff sings in Greman when he is in Germany. And David Hasselhoff is happy with out his ex-wife Pamela Bach.
