Lifetime - is it still "television for women?" - has ordered nine more episodes of the Canadian-made horror-romance series Blood Ties. The network will air the last nine episodes of this current order in October (though new episodes continue to air now, Sundays at 10). The big hiatus is so the network can premiere new shows. How is this show? I watch Entourage at that time, and I always forget to set the TiVo for this. Is it worth it? The premise sounds a bit like Forever Knight, though I know this isn't about a vampire cop but a private eye that gets involved with vampires. Looks more romantic/dramatic than the Geraint Wyn Davies show. Is there action too, and maybe some scares?

Compared to Buffy, not only would Spike kick this wimpy vampire's behind, Xander would have him staked in short order. Not remotely scary, interesting, or passionate.
Better to spend your time reading Anita Blake.

Admitley it's not up to the standards of Buffy or even Angel in terms of Vampire lore, but it's still entertaining.
I think it's completetly different from the the Joss Wheadon tales, and does well for what it is, i can't wait to see the next 9 shows, i'm enjoying the show.
And i like Henry it's nice to see a vampire not trying to apologize for being a vampire, or constanly trying to excuse his actions.
Plus it's just nice to see Dylan Neal, on TV again.

Well, the series is not perfect, but there is definite potential there. I thought the first seasons of Buffy and Angel truly sucked (no pun), but they grew on me and became better series over time (except for that terrible final season of Angel). If Lifetime is willing to give the series some time to grow and develop it could turn into something. Fortunately, that's what cable does best: allowing series that aren't spectacular in the ratings (even for cable) the time they need to work out the kinks.
The writing is sometimes cheesy, but often good. The cast is top-notch and the acting is great. There is definate room to develop the past of vampire Henry, especially since he's supposedly the bastard son of Henry VIII. If you try to compare Blood Ties to Buffy or Angel, or even Forever Knight, then I think you'll be disappointed. However, if you can watch the show on its own merits it's really quite good.

Why review a show you admit to never watching? A show with a strong female lead and 2 hunky guys sounds like television for women to me. I'm there every week. Loved the book series and am quite pleased with how they've adapted it. And I've been impressed with several Buffy worthy lines such as Mike to Henry's, "We've got to talk about your drinking problem."

Correction for fans...of this show. Their first "season" of this show will have 12 episodes (with episode 12 airing on May 20). The "back-10" episodes will debut in Fall.

Actually, there are already 22 episodes. Lifetime only committed to air 13 of them initially.

It is what it is...a paranormal romance on TV. I like it because like Pat I too will watch any show with a strong female lead and 2 hunky guys. The writing can be a little cheesy, and its pretty much a live action Scooby-Doo episode (a mystery every week). I can say the writing gets better every week and the characters are likable. Just hoping, like Buffy, the story will keep getting better.

I normally catch this show after the Soprano's on Sundays, and I have to say I enjoy it. I was a fan of Buffy and Angel. You can't compare this show to Buffy, angel or even Forever Knight. You have to take it for what it is, this is a totally different story line and setting and lets face it, it does air on lifetime not HBO. Personally and show that has those two hunky guys in it is deffinetly telivision for woman.

The show's really good. It's the best book-to-film adaptation I've ever seen. I'm happy to hear there will be more.

I watched 3 seasons of Buffy, but not the rest of the show. I watched every episode of Angel and loved the show - David is the main reason I started watching Bones and I'm cracy for that show, too. David is always good and the show has a terrific ensemble cast. I agree with others - you need to take Blood Ties on it's own; don't compare. I immediately liked Blood Ties. I didn't know the actors from any other show, but found the three of them meshed just right on Blood Ties. I'm thrilled that Lifetime has asked for more shows. I've not missed an episode and don't plan to miss any in the future.

Lifetime sure lives up to it's ad line: television for women with Blood Ties. I love this show. The interaction between Vicki, Henry and Mike is entertaining, unique, and at times hilarious. It's a fantasy show if you will...just what I want....that's what I want when I watch tv...to escape, to be entertained, and eye candy is a nice plus too. The show improves with each episode. Enough with the so called reality shows!

I also liked this show from the start. I am very glad Lifetime will be airing more episodes. Kyle has to be the sexiest man on television right now! Perfect vampire character!

Why do so many people feel the need to compare this vampire show to "Buffy" and/or "Angel?" Joss Whedon doesn't own the rights to all things vampire. In the world of "Blood Ties" the vampires are different - er - animals than the ones on Buffy. "Forever Knight" was yet another view of vampires. The only common threads are the basic ones: drinking blood, unable to survive in daylight, avoiding being staked. Knight wanted to be human. The Buffyverse vamps were pretty much just demonic. The vampire world of "Blood Ties" is a little more civilized than the Buffyverse but not so angst-ridden as Knight's world. As for Anita Blake ... even on its worst days, "Blood Ties" has less meaningless sex going on that there. So (A) don't review a show you don't watch and (B) if you think another show was better, then by all means watch THAT show and let those of us who like the variety enjoy ourselves.

I found Blood Ties almost half-way into the season. I was hooked immediately and watch all the previous episondes on ON-Demand/Comcast.
With terrific chemistry between the characters Blood Ties consistently offeres a good story. Great lighting, great music background, and solid directing make this show shine! Add to all of that the one-liners that make you laugh, and the charismatic actors/actresses that can haunt your dreams and Lifetime has gotten its hands on the kind of show that could bring in a whole new audience!
Blood Ties is based on a series of books by Tanya Huff - who is actually involved in some of the episodes. It has been a pleasure to watch these characters come to life and still stay true to the personalities she gave them.
As the season progresses the fan base increases! I, for one, am spreading the word!
More seasons, please!

I love the show and have downloaded all of the episodes from iTunes. Ofcourse it is a show for women. We love watching strong. intelligent female characters kick butt and the two men are very nice to look at. You can not compare it to Buffy or Angel but I think fans of those two shows would enjoy this show. This show includes a little more "typical" detective work and the stories are getting better every week.

This is a fabulous show. The casting and acting are top-notch, the characters are multi-faceted - and witty when you least expect it, which leads to some great memorable quotes, the story-line is exciting, gritty and appealing and the cop stuff is true. What's not to like? For fans of vampire lore, there is NO downside. Comparisons to Forever Knight and BTVS don't serve any purpose. I think those who make such comparisons and find Blood Ties wanting only display their shallow, pretentious stupidity. If you don't like it, just be quiet and allow the fans to enjoy the show while it lasts! Network executive being the silly creatures they are, it'll be gone soon enough without the aid of incessant carping from the ignorant penny-section!!

I was a little skeptical going into this--Lifetime is not a network I watch typically--but I have been won over. "Blood Ties" is great fun to watch, and I have to agree with the person who said it is awesome to have a vampire character that is not in angst all the time over what he is and what he has done in his past. Henry is perfectly comfortable with himself. Do I think the show is flawless? No. But I tune in every Sunday (or download what I missed from iTunes!) to watch because I like what I see. I'm glad I will have more to see in October!
Oh, and comparisons? Don't waste your energy. Just take "Blood Ties" on its own merits. I watched the other shows, too, and even have them on DVD, but until I read through this thread I don't think it ever occured to me to compare them all. *shrug*

first off, comparing shows is a bit lame. this is not Buffy, it's not Angel, it's not Forever Knight. it's not trying to be. judge it for what it is.
personally I find it to be good clean fun with a sexy side to it. and I don't think it's really trying to be more than that. it's refreshing to see a vamp that isn't evil by nature, who doesn't apologize for what he has to do to survive, who has his human moments (like admitting that he did what he did for love and then discovered she didn't feel the same. can't get more human than that) and so on. and while there are moments of philosophicalness with the parallels between Vicki's two choices in lovers and the two worlds she has to live in, the whole thing isn't all twisted and complex like certain network shows I don't think I need to name.
and the whole romance sex issue doesn't overwhelm the plot like it has in the Hamilton novels (what are they by now 95% sex and 5% actual plot)
