If anyone has any glimmer of hope that Studio 60 was coming back, this piece of news should squelch out that glimmer and leave a tiny piece of coal in its place:According to Rob Owen of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the show's sets are being dismantled on the Warner Brothers soundstage where it was being shot. So, even though NBC hasn't officially cancelled the show yet, it's a pretty sure bet that the show will be on the "Out" list when the Peacock makes their upfront presentation on May 14. It makes sense; why would WB take down the sets the week before the upfront if it had any hope that the show was coming back?
Anyway, as Bob mentioned, NBC will air the remainder of S60's only season starting on May 24. Here's hoping that Aaron Sorkin's next series does better. Maybe he should go back to the government for material; anyone ready for a show called Department of Energy?

now that Bravo has stopped showing reruns of West Wing im going into Sorkin withdrawl. Im going to have to end up 'acquiring" West Wing episodes or just watch dvds of Sports Night to stave off the shakes.
I liked the show and wish it could have lasted but i guess this is the end. He should have gone the way of Sports Night and made the show a little less flashy and with cheaper actors/sets; it could have probably lasted if it werent so expensive.

I agree khamel, he went over the top with the cast and thats huge, he went over the top with a huge set. Sports Night Ratings were bad, but it was a good show and won awards. I think because it was cheap is the only reason there was a second season.
Plus Sports Night didn't look that cheap, it was better looknig than all the sitcoms on then and most on now.

I think his next attempt at TV should be behind the scenes at a cable news network. It's a much more appropriate backdrop for the kinds of statements he likes to make.

LB, that's another problem Studio 60 had. It was a once a week night time show (the fake one). You can't do the fake show every week on the real show, but the behind the scenes things suck. On Sports Night there was a show almost every day and it was shown or lead to part of the episode. and the personal issues. Studio 60 was once a week yet they did a few episodes about a snake in the stage. Frankly there was too much wrong with the show. It was entertaining to watch how bad the storylines could be.
And where is Bob? Is he crying in the corner?

Again, the problem(s) with "Studio 60" had nothing to do with the concept. It should have worked. The real problem was that the show was not as good as it thought it was; everything else flowed from that.
The Harriet character didn't work. The religion stuff got old fast and never let up. The show within the show was considered a good show, but the parts we saw of it weren't very good.
Studio 60 would have been better if the show within the show were acknowledged to be as bad as it was. Then, at least, the story could have been about improving the show within the show. Instead, Matt and Danny were getting accoladed for a show we all knew sucked. That was a huge disconnect.
A soap opera about a soap opera would have been a lot more fun.

Not to argue against the inevitable, but just playing devil's advocate - aren't the sets for most shows taken down over the summer hiatus? You always hear about set dressers with Polaroids documenting the location of the Central Perk couch so everything can be put back in place after the break. It makes more sense to get out of the way so movies can borrow the space during the off-months than to pay the rent on unused space.

I agree with Porchland. I wanted this show to make it. I worked with them to learn the characters and try to stay with it week after week. But they seemed determined to kill it their way.
It was really hard to figure how a show that was supposed to be so funny was so dismal and dreary back stage. The writer’s room looked more like they were serializing The Sorry and the Pity than writing pithy skits. The show never really knew what it was going to be. At first it was a fast paced glimpse into the world of television and that was fine. But then all of a sudden we were all worried about a bunch of high school romances. I found the crush between Danny and his pregnant boss totally useless to whatever the reason for being this show ever had.
I watched it each week and more and more found myself thinking, “come on, pick a genre and stick with it.” Sometimes it was like a completely different set of writers where giving it a shot each week and they took it a different direction each and every time. Then Sorkin decides he has the platform to single handedly take down Christianity all by himself. That was both misguided and irritating. Now we have a poorly stitched together plot with an ax to grind. Ok, I don’t need some fictional television show trying to talk me out of liking Christmas. It was extremely ill advised to try to take on a religious base that is either part of or sympathized with my good size section of your audience. And then to make your supposed spokeswoman for Christianity a shrill, self absorbed tramp didn’t ring true that well either. Even the most supportive of us fans were hoping a stage light would fall on Harriet so Matt could find a decent girl for himself that was more in step with his character.
Yet another show with people in it I wish I could see each week but not in this plot. I fear Raines is going down the same path. Oh well. Next?

Umm... no Jameson you keep the sets up.
Sure you most likely move the furniture to storage, but when you are taking down the walls then there is a problem.
Plus this isn't Friends where you just stick three walls up and be all set. They built a whole fake studio and everything.
Hopefully Aaron Sorkin will smarten up and stop the Christain hating. I hate the crazy ass Christains too but he went over the top and brought the show down.
Aaron Sorkin and Mathrew Perry must work together again through.

One of the problems with Studio 60 is that there were no characters that were likable.
The show really started to work for me at Christmas time and when Bradley Whitford told Amanda Peet that he had a thing for her and that he was going after her.
But then the writers couldn't put the series on a solid track and the media frenzy and the fan frenzy took its tool.
Sorry to hear it go; but glad to see that we will see the show wrap up in a few weeks.
I'm sure we will be able to make a few more remarks when those shows air later this month and in June.

Maybe wishful thinking on my part. I'm kind of thinking like Jameson on this. They might be taking down the sets because of needed space for shows on summer hiatus. The studio have limited space and most use all unused space when available. Also some sets might be torn down if no longer needed and new ones are being built to replace old ones. Also the show might make some changes in characters and of course new sets might be needed.
From my understanding NBC hasn't had any hits in the current Studio 60 time slot.
Some of the solutions offered by earlier commenter might save the show or my suggestion would be change the show to an earlier time slot. This is kind of funny to me. Because usually when a show is popular the networks sometimes move it around to where you can't find the show and it gets lost. This show they have premiered on one night and just left their to sink or swim.

NBC is still trying to screw over Studio 60 by showing the episodes out of order. May 24th is going to be The Disaster Show not Breaking News. I know they never understood the show and therefore couldn't promote it correctly, but they don't realize it's serialized?
The only thing that would make an iota of sense is if they were trying to use the time to promote Allison Janney's appearance. But, they're not doing any promotion. They just have their heads so far up their butts.
I'm just glad that nothing has given them as good as numbers in the old time slot. And laugh everytime they renew shows that have worse ratings, because they're complete idiots.

This show as trying so hard to be smart and clever it just wound up coming across to me as pretentious and boring with "the beat 'em over the head with heavy handed writing because they all may be too stupid to understand what we are trying to say" - I understood what they were trying to say - I just didn't find it smart, witty and challenging.
What a waste of a great cast.
Sorking needs a break.

Me, love this show at the first sight, I love Matt, I love Danny, I love the way they look at each other and the girls they like, there are moments when I feel I am in love(while in the real world I never get that feeling), Long since Matt played in Friends, I considered Chandler is the most ideal husband in the world, and in this show, I think he just show another kind of perfect man, for me , maybe. I care nothing about religion or politics or any other smart stuff, it's feelings that I care the most. By seeing this show, I am moved by their enthusiasm in their job(I never have any joy in my job), and I TRULLY hope that one day, I can, just like them, find a job that I really like inwardly. Too much nonsense, in a word, in name of the many beautiful feelings this show gives me, I say this show is fantastic.
