If I had asked you back in August who Chris Lowell was you would probably have answered: "Chris who?" But about 8 months later, most of you do know who Lowell is as he is a regular on Veronica Mars. Those who don't know him will be introduced to this up and coming actor tonight on the two-hour Grey's Anatomy special as Lowell landed a role in the possible Grey's spin-off.

The 22-year-old actor from Atlanta, Georgia, attended the celebrated Atlanta International School, where he even founded the Film Program and Video Yearbook. He also studied at the University of Southern California. As it is the case for many actors, he got discovered while doing something not linked to acting at all. In his case, Lowell was discovered while playing beach volleyball.

TV fans were first introduced to him when he appeared in the short-lived TV series Life As We Know It as Jonathan Fields. After this short stint on TV, Lowell was part of the cast of two independent films: Graduation and You Are Here.

In the summer of 2006, he signed a one-year contract to appear on Veronica Mars as series regular Stosh 'Piz' Piznarski. The role was first described as a potential love-interest for Veronica and Wallace's roommate while in college. The role was tweaked a bit before the season premiere and Piz ended up not being a love-interest for the leading lady until this week's episode (however, Piz had a crush on Veronica since he first saw her).

Because he only signed a one-year contract with The CW's show and due to the fact that Veronica Mars' future is bleak, the actor tried to get a part on a pilot. Lucky for him, he landed a regular role on the potential Grey's Anatomy spin-off. His role on this potential series is described as a "receptionist/surfer dude".

Chris Lowell can be seen on Veronica Mars every Tuesday at 9 p.m. on The CW. He'll appear in tonight's 2-hour Grey's Anatomy which serves as an introduction to the potential spin-off.
