Welcome to TV Squad Lists, a feature where each blogger has a chance to list his or her own rundown of things in television that stand out from the rest, both good and bad.
Well, unless you've been residing beneath a naturally occurring aggregate of minerals and/or mineraloids (in other words, living under a rock) you probably know that Rosie O'Donnell is leaving ABC's The View after a very boring, non-controversial year. Naturally, the producers will need to fill that empty chair with someone that may or may not be as, er, enthusiastic as Rosie was. So, please indulge me as I present my five suggestions on who should replace Rosie on The View.
Star Jones -- Sure, why the hell not? Really, this could be some good television. Star would come back, Barbara, Joy and Elisabeth would fawn all over her saying that they were wrong to let her go, and everyone would be the best of buds. But, that's not the good television. That would come about 10 minutes later when all of the sweetness wore off and Star began to tell her 'friends' off on how badly they treated her. I'm sure there would be plenty 'I told you so's' sprinkled throughout that first day she's back at work. The tension would be so great it would probably pulse out of your television. Now, THAT's good television!
Kathy Griffin -- In all seriousness, this would be a good replacement for Rosie. She can be just as controversial as O'Donnell, and she's a big fan of dishing out the celebrity trash. But, for some reason, I think fans of The View would be able to handle her type of humor and comments better than they did Rosie's. Don't ask me to address the nuances between the two; it just seems that even though she's deemed controversial more people secretly agree with Kathy's opinions rather than Rosie's.
Pearl McKay -- For those of you scratching your heads about this one, this is the name of Will Ferrell's 2-year-old, potty-mouthed, landlord on the video The Landlord. Forgetting about the fact that it's a 2-year-old saying bad words, and that many of you are offended by that, Pearl would make a perfect replacement for Rosie. In fact, I'm sure you wouldn't even realize Rosie had left when you heard Pearl speak.
Katie Couric -- You know, if the rumors circulating are true, Katie could be out of a job shortly after the next President of the United States is voted in. And, while I wish all of the best for Ms. Couric and hope that she can succeed in her post of CBS Evening News anchor, she may want to consider moonlighting on The View just to cover her bases.
And the final suggestion to replace Rosie . . .
An Empty Chair -- I mean, with all of the cackling going on between the other three hosts would anyone really notice?

I think Kathy Griffin would be an excellent choice. Hell, I'd even watch The View if she were on it.

I like the idea of Roseanne Barr. I mean she's not doing anything and she's just as crazy as Rosie.

Kathy Griffin and Rosanne I think are great ideas. Still be able to be funny, and crazy at the same time. Mrs. Walters probably wants someone like Katie Couric through.

I think that Roseanne will not be picked- if you saw her on Bill Mahr lately, you'll know she's a bit nutso in terms of her political views. Not to say I disagree, but you need a bit of couth - and she has even less than Rosie. Everyone's laughed, but I still think that Gayle King would be a great addition - if BFF Oprah will let her...

Kathy Griffin is a perfect choice.
Or either half of Frangela from "Best Week Ever."

I think Jane Krakowski would be a good choice - she is funny and interesting, knows celebrities and furnishes the right age category. Also that Afican American comic/actress Sherri (forgot last name) was super as a guest-host.
I don't care what anyone says I love Rosie. When you're in the public and don't censure your speech you get the good and the bad. I prefer it that way then a boring PC person. I will miss her, other than Joy there isn't much excitement left to the show - which I have watched from its' inception.

Regis really needs another job, he's been slacking off since his bypass surgery.
Come on, Reeg, break down the gender barrier!

Kathy Griffin would be the token liberal on the show, but she's definitely not as outspoken about it as Rosie; I feel like she'd be able to control herself a little better than Rosie has.
I don't know. I'd LOVE to see Griffin on the show, but I'm wondering if ABC is honestly even considering her. I mean, is she really in the running for a spot on a show from which she's supposedly "banned?" And then there's the whole... her humor not being that housewife-friendly thing.

I'm voting for Whoopie, she has all of the over beat, and she could definetly control JOY and her big mouth.

Do you really want a serious answer? Sherri Shepard would be excellent but not necessarily someone who could control Hot Topics. I don't think Kathy Griffin would be able to do it either. What The View needs is someone who can keep the ladies on topic and cut them off when there is a need to go to commercial. Meredith was perfect at this... she was funny, opinionated, and tactful when things got out of hand.
Kathy is great at the punch line but Joy does that already. Joy is an older version of Kathy but she doesn't just concentrate on celebs.
I would grab someone more sensible like Hoda Kobt or Soledad OBrien. They had one local news person fill in one time that was fantastic and I wish I had written her name down. But grabbing someone from the local news or a cable news channel would be good. Then bring in four or five women to be the wild card from week to week.... like Rosie, Kathy, Sherri, etc. It would keep the comedy in there and they wouldn't be afraid to talk. They could still bring in some of the really young stars to change it up once in a while in the guest host spot too.
One last note, Rikki Lake did a wonderful job today as a co-host. She has a talk show background too. I could see her as someone who falls between Meredith and Rosie. She speaks up but talks intelligently about things. She has a wonderful sense of humor too. She would be a great replacement for Rosie.
BTW.... I can tell you were being more TIC with this post but I have watched The View for years and I enjoy the discussion and topics that get discussed. My interest are varied from politics, entertainment, family matters, environment, shopping, etc. Some days, the guest are of no interest to me but I always enjoy Hot Topics. Sure it's controversial at times and yeah, all four of them maybe wrong, but where else do you get a candid debate like this with women?

Am I mistaken in thinking they now need to hire two hosts? Assuming they intend to replace Star Jones and Rosie O'Donnell.

GO Ricki, GO Ricki. Ricki Lake would be perfect. She is outrageous, funny, articulate, a little crazy, an activist, and at 38, the perfect age for the show's demographics.

Star Jone was fired last year very publicly, and will never be replaced. Rosie was the replacement for the woman who went to The Today SHow.

Yes, Whoopi, Roseanne, Kathy G would all be incredible choices. So would Geraldo, Bill Maher, but none of them have the charm and charisma of Rosie-? Honestly though, would anybody get a word in edgewise in this 'gabfest' of yacking heads...

I think it's written in The View contract that that chair has to be filled by someone over 200lbs. When Star lost the weight she got the boot and they brought in Rosie. I think Roseanne will get it depending on what her current weight is these days.
