Elizabeth asks: What happened to the show Men In Trees. Just out of no where Bam! it's gone. I loved this show.... Bring it back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Sorry to be the bearer of bad somewhat bad news Elizabeth (and all other Men In Trees fans who have emailed us about the show) but the series will not return until next Fall.
Not even two weeks after ABC announced that Men In Trees would be coming back for a second season and that the rest of Season 1 would resume on April 12, the network announced that the five remaining Season 1 episodes would not air this spring after all. ABC decided to air those five episodes next year along with the Season 2 episodes.
In other programming news (to answer questions we often get asked), the Kyle XY's Season 2 premiere will air on June 11 on ABC Family, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia will return on June 28 in September on FX, and The 4400 comes back on USA Networks on June 17.

The show suffered from what I call a "high burn-out rate" -- in other words, very little story arc concerning the characters we care about, because once the premise had been fleshed out (Girl in Alaska with men!) the show turned out to have very little to do with Girl In Alaska With Men. True. the last episode I saw had hunky guy hanging around her house, but that was way little and way late. The problem was, there was still no plot. The original promise of knowledgeable city girl teaching guys how to come out of trees so as to deal with and woo women -- well, what other kind of wisdom was she supposed to impart on a radio show? -- never did come about. All we were shown was one alpha male she quickly bedded and then a whole passel of beta males. The NYC editor who had the continual fling with "PlowMan" (great allusion by the way) was almost interesting. Everybody else was just fine, but they didn't belong in the show.
There will always be a need for a female "Dr. Phil" advice in the form of a fictional story type show. The "Sex In The City" concept -- the concept is still valid, but was horribly mishandled by adding in family affairs and with women that didn't need the advice of the star of the show to figure out what they wanted.
Oh, yes, one more thing: When you have a fictional advice person, that person needs a foil. For every Frasier, there is a Lilith. They don't have to be on the show, but they do have to lurk off stage in the character's mind.

I guess everyone should be happy they are getting a second season at all.
And the same thing happened with Boston Legal and because of that we were robbed 5 episodes! Stupid Grey's Whorefest.

Walt has analyzed the show! But I disagree with him...the show has not burned out, and ABC's desire to renew the show makes that evident.
Their absence has nothing to do with the perceived problems he discusses. ABC has been screwy with a lot of schedules this season, and they want to use that time frame to air some pilots. The remaining episodes will be shown at the beginning of next season. Grey's Anatomy fans will remember they did the same exact thing...the final five (I think) episodes of their first season were merged into the second season. If you go to the Blogs in Trees Web site, they have a few blogs detailing the scheduling problems ABC has gone through.
While Heche plays an advice person, she's a "fallen" advice queen, unlike Frasier and Carrie. Her advice books were about dating and marriage...something she figures out she really knows nothing about. So the show's premise is more or less that she's relearning the stuff herself. Yes, she does have a radio show (that is rarely shown) and she does give advice...but more often than not she uses the show as a sound board for her own thoughts on a new dating game. And the show itself plays a very minor role (whereas Frasier's show and Carrie's column, while not the most important aspects of the show, were still very important).
Plow Guy...that story line is one of the cutest ones I've seen in a long time.
Honestly, if you're going to pick on a story line, I'd think it'd be Annie and Patrick. They're cute, but they can get a little dry and annoying at times. Marin and Jack's story line is a bit predictable...but I still love their chemistry (perhaps it's so good because they have offstage chemistry...lord help the show if they break things off).

ABC may be holding back the five episodes remaining this season as insurance in case there's a writers' strike next season. The writers guild contract expires in November, and right now things aren't looking too good. Shows are already making preparations for a potential strike, shortening hiatuses, rushing back into production, ordering extra scripts. If there is a strike, and it is a lengthy one, it could cut down on the number of episodes tv series produce next year. If that scenario happens, Men in Trees could benefit with the extra episodes already in the can.

Great that fans get a longer second season but, with the way things change so quickly these days, nothing's a sure thing!

I think you mixed that up Jen. Grey's Whorefest only had 5-6 episodes made for the first season because they didn't think it would be a hit. They were wrong, what a shock, and instea dof only bumbing Boston Legal for a week or two they cut the rest of the season.

Actually, I've read many places that the first 5 episodes of Season 2 were intended to be how Season 1 ended. (Season 1 had 9 episodes, I think?) If you notice, season 2 of grey's had 27 episodes (I know this is in part because of the Super Bowl show and the three-hour season finale), as well.

Yes, Jen is right. ABC was to originally air 13 episodes for Grey's first season. Then they decided to air only 9, and the last 4 were aired as the beginning of season 2.

Finally some real answers.I am tired of waiting but I love OctoberRoad and feel that at least they put MIT on hold for something worthwhile. I do remember the Greys halt to season one. I hope that either way we get what we need and they bring back Men In Trees asap. What a great fall lineup we will have but what a long summer as well.

Men in Tree's was a great show, I hope very much that it returns and continues. Thursday night was my only must see TV night, keeping up with my three year old consumes most of my time but Thursday was always a planned event for me. October Road was also a great show, I loved that story line and will watch that as well when it returns. Please bring back Men In Trees.

Please bring back Men In Trees soon. I would hardly make it through the week, until the next episode. It was a real feel good show for us unmarried gals.

I agree with the Other Sonja Martin... I really loved watching Men In Trees, and I want it back. I looked forward to it every week. I had already wanted to move to Alaska, and when I watched "Men In Trees" it made me want to move there even more. I know it is just a show, and not reality, but the idea of living in Alaska in small town again, would be like having a new family. Anyway, enough of that, just please bring back "Men In Trees"... and all of the episodes that we missed at the end of the first season!!!!
