We've reached the home stretch, and the final episodes of Lost's third season are upon us. As usual, there are tons of unanswered questions. Some will be answered, some will not. Over the last few weeks, I've come up with a list of my own Lost questions. My questions concern a wide range of things, from loose ends to major mysteries. It's only a partial list, so please feel free to include your own questions in the comments section.
Where is Danielle? Danielle disappeared after watching Alex through the bushes in "The Man From Tallahassee." Where did she go? It's possible that she followed the Others as they left the Barracks. She could also be laying low and avoiding contact with anyone, like she usually does. According to IMDb, Mira Furlan is set to appear in a few more episodes this season. It's likely that fans will get answer to this one.
What was that flash of light during the monster's last appearance? During "Left Behind," the smoke monster flashed a light on Juliet and Kate, and made a strange noise. Some fans think that the monster was taking some sort of picture of Juliet. Will the truth about the monster be revealed this year? To quote my favorite Magic 8 Ball, "outlook not so good."
What happened to Karl? Why was he caged in the first place? Why did the Others brainwash him? Karl was last seen in the "Stranger in a Strange Land" episode. Sawyer cut him loose to go off into the jungle and pursue Alex. The reason for Karl's imprisonment in the bear cages was never given. Neither was his time in that creepy brainwashing room. I could live without these answers until Season Four, and as storylines go, the writers have bigger fish to fry. I doubt that we'll be seeing much more of him this season.
What did Eko mean by "You're next"? Just before Eko died, Locke heard him say, "You're next." Was he predicting that Locke would die, or have some other run-in with the monster? Sayid, Nikki, and Paulo were also present for Eko's death. Could Eko have meant that the entire group was in danger? Nikki and Paulo certainly didn't last too long after that statement. I can live without Nikki and Paulo, but I will be devastated if Sayid dies.
Who is Jacob? The Others have made a few references to Jacob, and he is rumored to be their leader. Jacob's name appeared in the strange brainwashing video as well. I would be thrilled if Jacob's identity was revealed in the season finale, but I'm guessing that we will only get a few clues about Jacob to hold us over until next season.
What is the "Magic Box"? Ben explained in the island's powers in terms that Locke could understand, likening them to a box. If you desire something, it will apparently show up "in the box." Shortly after telling Locke this, Ben revealed that Anthony Cooper was a prisoner of the Others. How does this power work? Can anyone take advantage of it, or do you need to have a special connection with the island?
And, finally, a question left over from Season Two: Where did Michael and Walt end up? I know that there's no chance of getting an answer anytime soon, because Harold Perrineau is no longer on Lost. Still, Michael and Walt were such a large part of the show that it would be a shame for them to disappear forever.
What questions do you have going into the last month of Lost? What could you live without knowing?

According to Kristin at E!, she said that the producers tried to get the actor playing Michael back for the season finale but he refused to come back because the split was acrimonious it seems. So that would have been the finale if everything had gone to plan.
As a fan, that's just another sign that the writers are making it up as it goes along so right now I'm just enjoying each episode as they come and not worrying about the whole mythos of the show.

What about the giant, four-toed foot that Sayid, Jin and Sun saw in the season two finale? Didn't Cuse/Lindelof say that it would get explained?

Erm... Erin... you should at least have listened to the official Lost Podcast.
We will see more of Walt and Michael in the future. The guy who makes the Official Lost Magazine mentioned that Carlton Cuse said this in an answer to a fan question in the magazine on a lost podcast... I think it was the second to last one last year.
You kind of disappointed me here. I mean come on, nobody expects you to know everything but at least listen to the official Podcast and spend a little less time hunting for those idiotic number-easter-eggs.

OMG I knew this thread wouldn't go three comments without someone talking about the goldarn statue of the foot. Seriously? Not that interesting. I'm with Erin on the whole Smokey scanning Juliet thing. That, to me, is really interesting. But I'm not looking to have everything from a season explained to me. We _do_ get answers just not at the rate we want them. Perhaps if we wrote our own network teevee shows with as much quality as Lost then we could justifiably bitch about what we're given. :)

@ Bash, cut Erin some slack. She's the best Lost 'capper TV Squad has given us. They've had their share of crappy critical thinkers writing about this show and it's refreshing to read someone who actually watches the show. [Yes, I'm _still_ talking about you, Jonathan Toomey.]

Bash, I was trying to make this post as spoiler-free as possible, so I left out any information from the podcasts. If you're interested, I post recaps of the Lost podcasts every week.

Uh, it sounds like the producers were intending to bring Michael back last year (i.e. the fan mag), but THIS year (Kristin) he doesn't want to come back at all.
Frankly, I don't miss all the screaming of "WAAAAAAALLLLLT!" every ten minutes, so as far as I'm concerned, good riddance. I AM disappointed that we'll never find out what Walt's magical power was, but given the kid aging thing, well, what can you do. Live and learn. Next time you give the wacky power to an adult (Desmond).

Here's my official prediction:
In the season finale, "The Man Behind The Curtain," the mysterious Jacob will be revealed as:
Christian Shepherd!
Jack's old man was connected to a lot fo the castaways. Jack saw him on the island, his coffin was empty, and it's been obliquely hinted (in Expose) that Jacob was someone we know.
Thoughts?

I could be mistaken but im pretty sure they confirmed Christian Shepard is dead in one of the podcasts but I still wouldnt be surprised if he was alive... on the other hand, if he turned out to be Jacob, i would be quite surprised

Actually Damon and Carlton did answer the question of whether Jack's dad was alive or dead. They said he was definitely dead. So I dont think he's going to be Jacob. I think jacob will turn out being one of the losties.. Maybe not the main ones, but I wouldnt be surprised.

I, for one, hope the Michael/Walt storyline is never revisited...ever.
Regarding the smoke monster/flash of light: Remember back when Locke saw the monster for the first time? While Eko asked Locke if he saw it, Locke mentioned seeing a bright light.

Interesting that Danielle would have had to get thru the sonic fence they had to climb over to get in. They haven't explained how they bypassed it getting out. We know juliet put it up when the smoke monster was there but wasn't it supposed to be surrounding the whole complex

The biggest question they have yet to answer:
What the deal is/was up with Libby?
We never got to know anything about her dealings with Desmond and Hurley.

Jacob is getting revealed in episode 320, which is named 'The Man Behind the Curtain', when Ben introduces Locke to him. Season Finale is actually called 'Through the Looking Glass' so we should already know who Jacob is by that point...and it is not Christian Shepherd. He has been confirmed dead 1000x over by Darlton...
As for the foot statue, I think we're going to see it in 319, where it shows what Locke did with the Others when he was away. A preview states the Others go to a monument and Locke accompanies them. Seems pretty clear to me just what that monument will be.
I think the tentative season finale was supposed to be Penny and Michael/Walt coming to the Island then black screen for the next 8 mos. Now however, the season is supposed to end in a war between the Losties and the Others, with at least 5 deaths, one or two of which is going to be MAJOR (as in Jack, Locke, Sawyer, Kate or Sayid major) I'm calling Sayid, mostly because I have him in the Death Pool, but I think the other one is going to be...Jack.
I don't think we'll get anything regarding Smokey, Karl, or Michael/Walt (obv)
But I think this whole season has far exceeded Season 2, where protests about a lack of info were completely justified, but we've gotten a TON this yr about the Others, communications and trips on and off the Island, their financial backing, somewhat into their motivations, etc. There's a parachutist that reveals the 'real' fate of Flight 815 (wtf) and plenty more to come when the meaning of the cable gets revealed, amongst others.
Lay off the show, lay off the writers and lay off the reviewers. It's one of the most imaginative, intricate, detailed shows ever, and we just need to let it unfold and marvel at the brilliance.
I remember one of the producers saying something like 'Lost is a gigantic picture that has been smashed into a thousand pieces, now we're putting those pieces back together'
Hopefully it doesn't take a thousand eps to get there, but i think within 5 or (hopefully) 6 seasons, we'll all be satisfied...

I was upset at first about the producers discussing an end date for "Lost", but the more I think about it, at least we'll finally get the answers everyone's been waiting for, even if we have to wait until the series finale.

I've been catching up on old episodes and realized a couple interesting things:
1) Walt seems to maybe have a similar power to Desmond. He touches Locke's arm and warns him about the hatch. He tells his dad they have to take the raft, etc. Also, on the topic of Desmond, when he first meets Jack in the arena Jack tells him he was wrong about his future wife. Suddenly, and assuredly, Desmond says 'what if you did fix her?'. Did he see this? Now, humor me. What if, since Desmond usually only sees deaths, he saw her death far in the future and therefore knew she didn't die from the surgery (or at least was up walking around). Could that mean we'd see Mrs. Shepard again? Probably not, but a fun tangent.
2) wouldn't it be sweet victory for both Locke and Sawyer if Locke contracts Sawyer to kill Anthony Cooper and he (Cooper) turns out to be the original Sawyer? What are the changes of this?
Here's my biggest question: what's the deal with the crystals that Jack found in season 1 on the bodies of the couple in the caves and the appearance of those same crystals on Desmond's desk in a flashback to his and Penny's apartment? The official Lost Podcast pointed out that those crystals might prove to fans they've known how they were ending the show from the beginning.

I think it's entirely possible Locke could be one of the deaths this season. People on this island seem to die after they have resolved some issue and if Anthony Cooper dies (which seems likely to be one of the other 5 deaths) then Locke's biggest life issue would be resolved. I think it's also highly likely Rousseau could be another casualty since they haven't bothered to give her any flashbacks thus far and it would be a highly emotional moment for her to die just as she's reunited with Alex. I'm really hoping the whole "Charlie's gonna die" thing is a smokescreen and he lives long enough to finally have a real relationship with Claire.
Could the skeleton couple in the cave be Desmond and Penny? I have no idea how that would come to be but I don't understand much that goes on on the island so it makes as much sense as anything!
