Grey's Anatomy vs. the spinoff

Kate WalshNews about the Grey's Anatomy spinoff have been pouring in since late February when it was announced that Grey's character Addison would possibly get her own show. Since then, fans and critics have been speculating as to whether this was a good or a bad idea.

Earlier this week, ABC gave official details about the two episodes that will serve as a test to see if the spinoff will indeed be part of their 2007-2008 lineup or if Addison will stay at Seattle Grace.

Even if the two-hour spinoff episodes will only air on May 3, we can already start speculating as what series we will like better: Grey's Anatomy or Private Practice (the spinoff's tentative title).

Personally, the more and more I hear about the spinoff episodes, the more and more I warm up to the idea. Actually, being tired of Meredith whining in every episode and of Gizzie just making me want to scream as I do NOT want to see them become a couple, I embraced the spinoff news from the start. Addison is a strong character that has a good following of fans (even though people hated her at first since she was coming between Meredith and Derek) and if I have to follow one of the characters to a spin-off, she is #1 on my list.

The behind the scenes antics on the set of Grey's Anatomy have also put a strain on my relationship with the show. Somehow, I cannot take some of the cast seriously anymore. Every time I see Burke on screen, I am reminded of what he said about T.R. Knight. When I see Izzie, I can't help but think of her battle for more money per episode when it'll take me a few years to even make what she asks for an episode. No matter, I'm still watching the show due to its writing, wacky storylines, compelling cases, and because McSteamy and McDreamy aren't too shabby!

Knowing that the spinoff will be helmed by Shonda Rhimes, one can only expect the same quality of show we've been used to with Grey's. With a cast composed of people we have seen on TV before and grown attached to when watching other series, the spin-off starts off well. All of them have not been in hot water recently, so when watching the actors I will see them as their characters and not be reminded they said bad things about other cast members or demanded more money, etc. Afraid the spin-off will not have a McSteamy or a McDreamy? Have you seen Tim Daly? The man has strong presence in every show he does and is not too shabby either!

Without having seen the two Grey's Anatomy episodes that will help to set scene for the potential spin-off, which of the two series are you most compelled to watch?

We will do a follow-up to our "Grey's Anatomy vs. the spinoff" after the two-hour May 3 special airs
