Smallville: Progeny

Smallville: Progeny
(S06E18) Wonder Woman on Smallville? Only in our wildest dreams. Still Lynda Carter is about as close to the real thing as we'll probably get. If you ask me, she still looks like a Wonder Woman. Hubba hubba. I kept hoping she'd spin around and then have her tights on and take Lex to town. No such luck.

So, speaking of Lynda Carter ... yes, she's Chloe's mom. Yes, she has meteor powers. Yes, she was in Smallville during the original meteor shower. So why hasn't Chloe found out any of this stuff before? Has she been turning a blind eye where mommy dearest is concerned? Inquiring minds wanna know.

Young Chloe didn't quite seem to fit the bill, did she? I expected a much spunkier version of Chloe from 12 years ago. We'll chalk it up to flahbackitis and let it go. For now. If we start seeing young Chloe more often, we might have to object a bit louder.

One thing we would like to see a bit more of it Tough Chloe. Did you see the way she busted Lex's window open? Sure, she was being remote-controlled by mom, but she needs to get rough and tumble with it a bit more often. She can kick some butt when she needs to. Maybe she'll get a spinoff show. I know someone posted in the comments on the "Someone's gonna die on Smallville" thread that she should team up with Kristen Bell and solve crimes, but it unfortunately looks like Veronica Mars is getting canceled. It's tough luck, because they do seem like good female sleuths.

It's nice to see that just about everybody in the world is using flash drives these days. Places are giving them out like candy, and it seems like soon it'll replace the pen as the corporate gift of choice. In fact, I find myself craving a Smallville-branded flash drive, complete with a green "meteor rock" type LED on the end that lights up when the drive is in use. You could keep people from Krypton away, possibly develop powers, and also store sensitive files, or your Smallville soundtrack mp3 collection.

Is it just me, or did Chloe look really excited when her mom used the power to take over that super-strong dude, and he kicked some major security guard butt? That grin was ... almost evil. What a cool power to have (the remote-controlling, not the super-strength, although that wouldn't be bad either. Plus that slow-motion shot of Lex almost getting nailed in the face from that shot Chloe fired. Is she a good shot, or what?

A pretty kick-butt mom (except that death scene was just ... bad), some great Chloe moments, a few (not enough) Clark powers on display, Lex being a major jerk (what else is new lately), and some Lana baby (or no baby?) revelations ... all in all not a bad episode. A bit sad for Chloe though. She always seems to get the short end of the stick. We're pulling for her to have a spell of good luck and not get killed off during the finale. On our 1 - 7 ratings scale, I give this one a fairly solid 5. Number 5

That Smallville Legends: Justice & Doom animated comic book thing was pretty cool, I wouldn't mind watching / reading comic books like that. If you missed it during the commercial break, you can see it here. Sure, it's basically a commercial, but it was a fun continuation of the "Justice League" characters from Smallville.

PS - Did anyone else wonder where Chloe's dad was? He's been AWOL for awhile.

Quote of the show:
  • Lex: "A plan that makes prison look like a picnic." Scary stuff.
