Can you smell it in the air? That's right, the strong scent of May sweeps. Some things are always true, April showers bring May flowers, and May sweeps bring big events on TV. Smallville hasn't been immune in the past, which is why Jonathan Kent is (sadly) no longer with us. But who else is going to kick the bucket?
Sources say that one of the four major characters, Clark, Chloe, Lana or Lex will die by the end of this season. Now, through simple deductive reasoning, I think we can assume that it isn't going to be Clark, since that would end the series pretty quick. We know Lex has to be Clark's eternal nemesis, so that takes him out of the running as well.
That only leaves Lana and Chloe. If you go by the comics (where Chloe doesn't exist), Lana lives on past the younger years, so that unfortunately leaves Chloe. Chloe is definitely a fan favorite, and we'd hate to see her go. She's provided some of the better storylines since the show began, and often serves as the catalyst who gets things going.
Who do you think it'll be?

Someone might die, but they can come back right? I'm still waiting for Clark's pappy to be brought back by some currently unknown Kryptonian power.

I hope its not Chloe! If it is I hope it has something to do with her meteor power bringing her back.

It would be nice if Clark Kent die and then he never exist but only Superman live on.

I think it WILL be Lana. What better way to set off the life-long batter between Clark & Lex than to have him be directly or indirectly responsible for Lana's death? It would set up an awesome final season for Smallville.

Somehow I think it would be Chloe, though I would hate to see her go.

The original article heavily implies Chole because it says "It is someone who is most definitely a fan favorite. And I think you're gonna freak." It can't be Clark or Lex obviously, Lana has NEVER been a fan favorite, and Chloe has been revealed to be a meteor freak this season, hence the use of the word "freak." If they do kill her, they'd better bring her right back to life. She's one of the best characters.

well Chloe won't die because she is replacement character for Pete Ross, I know thats not actually the comic book way, its the new TV series way. In the comic book Pete Ross was the only one who knew Clarks secret but he is no longer in series and Chloe has filled that friend/emotional void thats was missing. To me its logical for Lana to die because as Clark grows up and moves on he moves away from Lana. But it also makes drama if they will kill her off and that fuel the famous superman/lex Luthor hatred thats always been famous since the comic book has been around.

Kevin - You know, I'm never one to complain about spoilers - if I see a title/topic for which I don't want to be spoiled, I just skip it entirely. But this article doesn't even give me that option. "SOMEONE'S GONNA DIE" in the title pretty much spoils me right there. TV Squad did the same thing with CSI the other day, and since I don't watch the show I didn't comment, but I empathized with anyone who does watch who didn't want to be spoiled.
Maybe you can write "Big News Alert" in the title, and then people who want to be spoiled can read further?

Well, I certainly wouldn't cry if it was Lana, but that flies in the face of accepted Superman mythology (although, that's never stopped the writers of this series before). However, I think it will be Chloe, which would be a shame because as a character she's really come into her own this season.

I'm betting my money on Clark. I mean, come on... this is Smallville. They will just end up killing clark, then bringing him back the next second with some lame ass plot device.

betcha it'll be clark or lex....then they'll be resurrected.
and jonathan wasn't really killed for ratings - it was part of the superman mythos, jonathan dying.

Yea, Someone is going to "die"
just like when Clark told Lana his secret.
Anything done in the finale will be undone in the opener.

It should be Lana because Clark ends up loving Lois. Chloe shouldn't be the one to go, she's an important part of the relationship with Clark whereas Lana is not the one Clark ends up loving.

Why cant Lionel be the one offed? The way he threatened Lana on the wedding episode seemed like a way to set him up to be offed as a baddie. Killing Chloe would be a mistake because she is the best character on the show and was the only bright spot this season.
