From Smell-O-Vision to Odorama, scratch and sniff cards have been used in many ways to enhance the movie-viewing experience. After having offered some episodes of various series in 3D over the years, NBC will now offer a scratch and sniff episode of My Name Is Earl on May 3rd.This year, My Name Is Earl has been tackling various style of TV. They had an episode filmed à la Cops and another one featuring scenes done in Claymation. Episode "Get A Real Job," set to air on May 3 from 8 to 8:35 p.m., will have viewers "laugh 'n' sniff their way through this super-sized episode" as the network describes it.
In order to take part in this unique interactive experience, viewers will need to get hold of a special scented insert card available on newsstand and to subscribers of TV Guide. The network has not released the date when the scratch and sniff cards would be available, so fans who want to take part in this experience should keep their eyes opened when visiting a newsstand in the coming weeks.
If it is like it was for movies who used the scratch and sniff technology, viewers will need to have their card in hand when watching the episode and scratch the appropriate spot on the card when a cue is given on the screen.
My Name Is Earl airs on Thursdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.
