Remember all that talk about Survivor moving to a colder climate, such as Canada? Never mind.
The long-running CBS show is actually going to China for its next season. The 15th season will feature the castaways in a non-island setting for the first time since the 11th season. Though I'm not sure if you can call them "castaways" if its not an island, but whatever. China is more open to other countries filming there now, and such a location may help Survivor catch on outside of the U.S. The new season starts in September.
I still want to see a cold climate Survivor though. Moving around to different warm parts of the globe (and I'm not sure exactly what the weather will be like in China, so maybe I'm off here) might be interesting on paper, but once you get into the game it's still the same old thing. Changing the climate would change the whole show.

Until they specify WHERE in China, we won't know the weather. China has every climate possible - from sub-tropical in the south to very, very cold up north. Mongolia can be a barren, freezing wasteland much like the Arctic, so a cold-weather version is still possible. Also, the Himalayas are in China's west. All sorts of possibililties.

Canada didn't work for the next season, because it airs starting in September(ish). Taping would have to be done over the summer. It's not cold in Canada in the summer (or at least, not as cold as you were originally envisioning). Canada would work for the Spring 2008 season, as taped in the winter of 2007-08.

I'm sure we're past the point where people tune into "Survivor" for all the half-naked bodies. Sure, it might be an added bonus, but most people who watch the show now, watch it for the show itself.
Secondly, yeah, it would be more like a tropical version of the show if they filmed it in Canada during the summer months -- even in the Arctic, but especially around here. That's right, -50F in the winter, 100F in the summer. Now if you could somehow combine the 2 extremes, THAT would make for an interesting "Survivor". :P
By the way, I think China's a good choice.

I think the threat of hypothermia is keeping the show out of the cold. I'm sure that somebody freezing to death is a great way to get some publicity on news programs (remember the ridiculous blow up over the non-issue of racial tribes last season?), but the S&P department at CBS might think otherwise.

They've had heat stroke cases on Survivor in the past, so I'm not sure why cold (hypothermia) would be an issue. There's a big difference between 0C nights and -30C nights. Film it in the fall in the interior of Ontario or BC; plenty of 25C days, and 5C nights; and most lakes would still be (barely) warm enough to swim in.
