Yes, like you, I had just assumed she died several years ago, but Kitty Carlisle Hart lived a long, happy life and passed away today at the age of 96 after contacting pnuemonia in December.
TV fans will remember her for her long-running spot on To Tell The Truth. She was on the show from 1956 to 1967. Other TV appearances include a Kojak movie in 1990, The Howard Stern Show, I've Got A Secret, Password, and What's My Line.
She was also in the classic Marx Brothers comedy A Night At The Opera, as well as the films Radio Days and Six Degrees of Separation. She also appeared in several operas and Broadway plays and was awarded the National Medal of Arts from President Bush in 1991.

I remember her from To Tell The Truth, but after reading above that she was in the one that ended in 1967 I figured it must've been reruns (I was born in 1960, but think I was older than 7 when I watched it). After checking IMDB, I read she was also on the 1969-1978 version hosted by Gary Moore and that's the host I remember, so minor mystery solved for myself. I also learned she was born in New Orleans, so we come from the same area.
I'm surprised, like Bob, that she was still living and also saddened to hear of her passing. She was indeed a class act.

Kitty Carlisle Hart was vibrant and active right up until her death; I saw her perform a one-woman intermissionless cabaret show in October and she was a class act as always: witty, charming and sporting that perennially jet-black hair. She was an active and lifelong advocate for the arts, a wonderful performer and a heckuva dame. She will be missed.

In '95 I worked the front desk at a resort hotel in a town with a terrific summer stock theater. KCH was staying there for two weeks while she did a one-woman show. She didn't like the heavy breakfasts made in the restaurant, so for two weeks I made her Cream of Wheat every day.
My one brush with fame.

I was staying at the same resort as Miss Carlyle in Safety Harbor, Florida, about nine years ago. I couldn't believe how great she looked. She was dressed to the nines, the hair (jet black) and make up were flawless. Good for her. Most of the younger people won't remember her, but she was quite a wit and grand dame.

My Dear Bob, I share the sentiments of "The Brad". I cannot believe that a person that is writing entertainment news assumes "like you" that this legendary woman was already dead. You obviously do not live in New York City...where you would have had to be living under a rock, if you didn't know that until she took ill she was out and about every-night either performing or socializing. But she was very gracious and always
a lady...her response would probably be "that's alright dear...I know you've been busy".

I FONDLY REMEMBER THIS GREAT LADY FROM HER TELEVISION DAYS. HER APPEARANCES ON TO TELL THE TRUTH AND OTHER GAME SHOWS WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTON. I DID NOT KNOW THAT SHE ALSO APPERED IN MOVIES. GOD BLESS HER AND MAY SHE REST IN PEACE!
