I've been waiting for this for years, and judging by comments left at the site here, many of you readers have been waiting too: Stingray, the NBC drama series that ran in the mid 80s, is officially coming to DVD in December! The news was posted on Stephen J. Cannell's web site.
Now, I should say that the show is being released by VEI in Canada in December, but luckily our friends to the north make shiny DVDs that also work on our machines down here. Thank you friends to the north!
Stingray starred Nick Mancuso as a mysterious loner who helped people out of jams. He didn't ask for money, only that the people he helped do him a favor somewhere down the line. There were only 23 episodes of the show (plus the pilot movie), so I would assume the entire series will be released in one set. At least I hope so.

Add this show to the list of shows that have been cancelled before their time.
I loved this show when I first saw it when I was about fourteen years old. It ran alongside "Spenser" and "Hawk". I still remember how after Deep Space Nine was already over and I watched the DVDs when I found out that Avery Brooks was "Hawk". But back to Stingray: man I loved that car... my brother and I scanned the toy store shelves for months and finally we found a blue (damn) Stingray and each of us bought one and played for ages with these things even though we were at least six years too old for playing with cars but that was the time when micro machines came out and you funny enough we got another micro-machine stingray a short while after.
Oh man that brought back some memories.
I don't really want to buy those DVDs now... I will go down to the basement and start looking for those micro machines and put them on my desk! Finally something that's both cool and has a story behind it - although it (again) is a baby blue toy car.
If somebody knows where I could get a black micro-machine Stingray-Style please point me towards it :-)

I loved this show, and am SO glad to see it come out on DVD. I guess I'd forgotten there weren't that many episodes. Nick Mancuso was so cool in this show!

Miami Vice meets The Shadow... I was shocked when it was cancelled, and dismayed when nobody seemed to remember it after the fact.
Once again, the Canadians prove they're smarter than us Yanks.
