I can't remember the last time I paid attention to hockey. In the 70s and 80s it was really big in my home, but that's when the Boston Bruins were doing really well (same with the Celtics, but that's another story). Hockey is that "other" mainstream sport, one that you really have to be a fanatic to get into (unlike baseball and football, which even casual fans watch). And some of those fanatics turn out to be celebrities, and they're keeping blogs about the NHL playoffs.
Bones star David Boreanaz, Ed's Tom Cavanaugh, Christie Brinkley, William Fichtner from Prison Break, and Eddie Cahill from Friends share their views on the Eastern Conference teams, while The Office's Brian Baumgartner, Dancing with the Star's Willa Ford, and singer Amy Grant provide analysis of the Western Conference teams. I thought that it would be all Canadian celebs, but as far as I can find out only Cavanaugh is from our northern neighbor.

Why does Cahill get listed with a show he briefly guest-starred on 7 years ago, when he's been a series regular on "CSI:NY" since 2004?

Note that Boreanaz and Fitchner are from Buffalo. That's about as close to being Canadian as you can get while still being able correctly pronounce the second word in this sentence.
(Before anyone gets offend... I grew up in Buffalo and my Pops grew up in Canada)

Cahill played a hockey player in the movie The Miracle so that's probably his interest. By the way, now that you mentioned Cahill and hockey in the same sentence, I have to go and watch that movie again.

Um, I'm confused.
"Hockey is that "other" mainstream sport, one that you really have to be a fanatic to get into (unlike baseball and football, which even casual fans watch)."
Here is the confusion.
1) You do realize fan is short for fanatic........right? So your sentence doesn't make sense.
2) What does that make basketball.......that "other" "other" sport? (I thought I would use quotation marks for no apparent reason too)
3)Why can't a casual fan watch hockey? In Canada 1/2 the people are fans the other 1/2 casual fans. Is the game of hockey complicated. I would think football is much harder to understand than hockey. Here is a defenition in case you don't get it. Hockey: Ice, skates, stick, puck. Player uses stick to put puck in net.
"I thought that it would be all Canadian celebs"
4)Does that mean when you go to read basketball blogs you expect all the celeb bloggers to be black? Sounds a little narrow minded.
Really it doesn't sound like you know what you're talking aboot. (that was for you Bryan Prindiville)
Sorry to pick on you Bob but you have to expect a snappy comment to a stupid blog post.
Now back to playoff hockey, poutine, Labatt 50 and some Du Mauriers.
Go Canucks! (next year Habs fans)

Hockey is the ONLY real sport there is - not that I am bashing any other sport - but these guys skate 30 miles an hour on a 1/8" piece of steel. It's a face paced, action packed game that keeps you on the edge of your seat for 60 minutes. Plus winning the Stanley Cup is the hardest competition there is. You need to win 16 games and the games can last 6+ hours as one did last night. It is the greatest sport there is!

I don't watch pro sports at all, I'm not even a fan of college sports. Still, Hockey is the one sport that I find easy enough to follow.
I'd rather watch a Hockey game over a Baseball, Basketball, or Football game.

Couldn't agree with you more Darren.
And we should go easy on Bob, he's from the Boston area (I am too) and the NHL, The Bruins and Hockey in general get no coverage anywhere thanks to the Pat's and Red Sox.
Now back to the "Bonus Coverage" on Vs.

There's other Canadians blogging for NHL.com besides Cavanaugh. Wrestler Edge is from Toronto, and Brendan Fehr is from B.C. and grew up here in Winnipeg (where I live).
I'll never really understand why Americans don't "get" hockey like Canadians do. Obviously in places like Detroit, Buffalo, Minnesota, and NYC, people do watch and care about hockey, but generally there's something about the ice or the toughness that Americans (in general) don't gravitate to. Which is too bad.
This is going to be one of the best playoffs ever, I think, as all the teams are so closely matched and it really is anyone's game.

If I could get TSN and CBC here in Boston, I would. Center Ice is as close as I can get to them.
ESPN's coverage of Hockey hasn't been the same since NHL 2 Night went off the air 3 years ago.
