A while back I called Anderson Cooper "The Four Million Dollar Man." Looks like we're going to have to call him something else.
CNN has just given the anchor of Anderson Cooper 360 a big increase in pay. Cooper will be paid $50 million over the next five years. Yes, that's 5-0. That comes out to be $10 million a year, but it's up to you whether you want to call Coop "The 50 Million Dollar Man" or "The 10 Million Dollar Man."
So readers, is he worth it? It's really hard to judge whether one person is "worth" the amount of money they are given, whether it's Michael Jordan, Julia Roberts, or Anderson Cooper. But Cooper does indeed seem to be the future of CNN, the "face" of the network, if you will, and it looks like they want to lock him in for a long time to come.
Cooper hosts his nightly show at 10pm and also contributes to 60 Minutes over on CBS.

Hilarious that the face of CNN is supposedly a closeted gay man. If he ever came out his female viewership would dip and his male viewership would probably fall some too - never underestimate the power of homophobia.

How can all of you rip on probably one of the best journalists out there?
Is it because you all don't pay attention to world events or the news at all? Or is it because you all watch things like The Daily Show and the Colbert Report and conjure "I Wish All News was Dumbed Down this way!"
I bet if we hear of Maria Bartiromo if she was to get a raise you would all call her a closed homosexual as well. Why is it that people who comment are always the people that have something negative to say?
I for one think that Cooper is a hard worker, who is smart, and understands the world political climate that shifts all too often.

No one's calling Cooper a closeted gay man because he got a raise. They're calling him that because there have been stories about this in the media for years--it's an "open secret" that Cooper refuses to acknowledge publicly now that he's a big deal on CNN, but certainly implied in interviews years ago. "30 Rock" even had a joke about it a couple of weeks ago, in the Will Arnett episode. Cooper can write a book about his personal life in dealing with his brother's death, but refuses to answer questions in interviews claiming his personal life is "off-limits."
I think it's pretty sad that he can reach such prominence in the media business as long as he stays locked tightly in his closet. This new deal is just going to brick him up tighter in there. Really sad.
