(S01E18) This episode was a lot more light-hearted than last week's show, and I have to admit, I am kind of a sucker for the drama. But there was a lot to like in this episode too. Like Sarah, for once. Sarah let her hair down, got drunk on ar-ti-ritas, and got to have some fun, which went a long way in undoing her strident bitchiness that threatens to drown the character in dislike-ability.But, oh, ick ick ick! Oh god, please don't make Robert McCallister a saint or anymore of a good guy. The fact that he let people think he was a hero when he was scared under heavy fire and didn't really want to evacuate those people just humanizes him a bit. How can anybody be that good looking and that wonderful? It's too much really.
There just has to be a flaw there somewhere. Who could blame Kitty for thinking this guy is too good to be true! Come on, he's a politician. Isn't there just a teeny, tiny skeleton in his closet? And could we possibly find out about it before the general American public in the Brothers and Sisters world? Ooh, can you smell a cliffhanger? By the way, Rob Lowe has joined the cast full-time and permanently now. Woo hoo!
So, does this whole "I love you" business mean Kitty and Robert aren't fighting anymore?
Oh, maaan. I did not think Nora was really going to go out with Mark after finding out that he was sleeping with Juliet. Granted, his depiction of his relationship was probably accurate, he was still sleeping with one of his students. My husband is a college professor, and that is a pretty serious no-no. Even in a college extension course. On the one hand, Nora was right: Juliet, while perhaps not a child, is far too young for Mark to be dating, simply because of the power structures inherent in his being a professor and her being a student. Even if she weren't his student, I don't think it would be cool for him to do that. It is not only unethical, but it is also a little sleazy. But, given that this is television, I will now end my rant, step off my soapbox, and let Nora have her romance. Even I don't think I can spend my entire life ranting about the men on this show and their faults (though, did you see the previews for next week? With Joe and Rebecca? Can I start ranting about that right now, or do I have to wait until I have seen the episode in context?!?)
I didn't really think much of Justin and Rebecca's party experience, except that with every episode, I like Justin a bit more. Loved the bit where he and Kevin high-fived each other because Nora decided to make them eggs and English muffins. She's right-- that was just the thing. But other than just kind of nodding my head that, okay, yeah, they're bonding, whatever, I don't have much more to say about that.
What did you think of the way Chad and Kevin ended their relationship? I kind of hope we see Chad again. I was a complete sucker for the actor , Jason Lewis, on Sex and the City, and he was good here too. A bit flaky, but good. He keeps playing actors! Of course he comes across as flaky. But ultimately, I think Kevin was right about what he said about Chad being a drama queen, in and out, in and out. Chad has to stand on his own two feet in this and not use Kevin as a crutch, or he won't be living honestly. And I think that is what Chad is trying to do now. One of my favorite lines of the episode was when Kevin said, "I am so sick of hearing that word: career. What about what this means for your LIFE?" Bravo! I want to go out to L.A. and have coffee with these writers and hang out with them all day. I love them so much.

Good show, as always. But I finally have a complaint. I think Margot Kidder is awful! I don't see Nora hanging around with Kidder's character -- it's just not believable to me. Anyone else feel that way?

I can see your point about Margot Kidder. But I can also understand why they are friends. If Nora has met this person recently, then I agree she wouldnt be friends with her. But Margot's character is supposed to be a friend from high school, or was it college? The point is, that I can believe. I know that my mother has a few friends from high school that are of the type that my mother now would never seem to be hanging out with. Old friends are like that I guess, and I think that is supposed to be the whole point with Margot's character.

Aside from Margot Kidder looking completely frightening, she is a good foil for Nora. Nora is so uptight most of the time, she needs to have a friend that is always trying to push her to do new things. We all have that friend that is borderline nuts, but they add excitement to our lives...and usually we like it.
Chad and Kevin, sad to see it end. Maybe they will cross paths again and renew what they had - next season of course. By then both will be with new people and it will create a great problem in both their relationships. Would be good for a four or five episode storyline.

I love this show because of its consistently great actors and writers. The writers did, however, fall down on a religious reference. Alice Webb said that for her baby to be Robert's it would have had to be an "immaculate conception." Too often that term is used as a reference to the virgin birth when in fact it is a reference to the conception Jesus' mother Mary, who was conceived without the stain of original sin (the sin of Adam & Eve).

I LOVE this show! The family is so complex yet simple. Norah is amazing, ie Sally Fields playing her. I too would love to spend a day with the writers and in this forum want to thank them for this show..........please keep it coming!
McAllister has been a bit too nice, too smooth, too easy and it was good last week to see his edgy side a bit. I like Chad and Kevin but lose the kiss scenes; ew! And I agree Margot Kidder is awful but I too find old quirky friends so add to the fabric of life; weaving a different color into an otherwise harmonious fabric.

The term "immaculate conception" was used in the show in the exact way that most people understand it. In my opinion, arcane references have no place in television entertainment.
