(S03E17) And, they're back! Is it just me, or did that feel like a particularly long hiatus? At any rate, I am happy that they're back. And finally, finally, they are giving Gaby an interesting storyline, with a worthy partner. Phew. So, let's talk about Gaby first.I didn't know what to think about her new, older, cocky boyfriend at first. Actor John Slattery, who plays Victor, also played a politician on Sex and the City. That character dated Carrie until he proposed something to her that she found offensive, so he wasn't around for more than a couple of episodes. But he seems to have the sleazy politician role down.
I wasn't impressed with his little confession that his wife was there for him while he was an ass of a husband. That doesn't mean anything; he could have been manufacturing a guilt trip because nothing else with Gaby has worked. What actually DID impress me was that he refused to let Gaby borrow any of his ex-wife's clothes. That says a lot about his sense of honor and decency. Heck, it's just clothes, just dresses, but he respects his ex-wife enough to be sensitive to how she would feel about Gaby borrowing one of the dresses. So, based on that, I don't think he's completely irredeemable. And he is certainly a worthy sparring partner for Gaby.
Lynette and Tom, fighting again, yawn. But what is interesting is that their fighting actually seems to be leading to something. We have been watching Tom and Lynette grappling with each other, the revelation that Tom has a daughter, and their power struggles. But we really haven't seen any hints of being tempted to stray or any serious threats of infidelity. With Tom's ruptured disc, we are going to see the introduction of a new character, a chef who starts off his relationship with Lynette by telling her how beautiful she is. I am very curious to see whether or not Lynette is going to be seriously tempted to stray from Tom-- and what she will do if she IS tempted.
Speaking of temptation, I did not see Edie and Carlos taking this step. If anything, I thought Gaby and Carlos were going to get back together sooner than later. But something about this strangely works for me! What did you think of that? Oh, I don't trust Edie very much. But I do think that Carlos brings out something better in her. And contrary to how I felt about Victor, I did buy it when Edie told Carlos that he had absolutely nailed her when he said she couldn't even commit to her kid, so how could she commit to a guy. We'll see what happens, but I think Travers is a powerful draw for Carlos. It's a two-for-one package deal, so it will be interesting to see how this relationship develops.
For the first time, I am actually starting to like Susan. And, as it may be that I am supposed to, the more I like Susan, the less I like Ian. Of course he doesn't trust her. I kind of wanted to see her sign the pre-nup though, just to fling it in Ian's face. Blackmailing his cross-dressing father (or thinly veiling a threat to blackmail him) was amusing, but it didn't work so much for me as much as taking the pre-nup and signing it the night she was fighting with Ian would have. Lynn Redgrave as Ian's mother was great though. Just priceless. And I didn't even view her as the villain. Ian is the prick here. His mother is just responding to the cues she has seen in her own marriage and to the cues she has gotten from Susan. She is just protecting herself. So glad Mike is getting his memory back and that he and Susan look like they will eventually get back together.

I really like John Slattery. He seems to turn up in random shows for am episode or two then is gone off our screens for a while longer. I try to keep an eye out for him but in Oz, we don't seem to
see him too often so Yeah, he is back!We are a little behind the US here in Aus so I am not sure about some of the charactors you mention
but I have to agree about Susan... I don't really like her, the charactor seems hollow to me, I've never been drawn to her.

I didn't like Susan blackmailing her way out of the prenup. If anything, that confirms Ian's mother's suspicions that she IS a gold digger. She should have signed the thing.
And I sincerely hope that they don't do a Lynette is tempted storyline. There are such things as happy marriages. Every other marriage has been broken up or abnormal in some way. That one should be the stable one.

Nicolette Sheridan looked manly in the gettin'-nekkid scene. (I think a nut may have slipped out.)

I don't think Susan is a golddigger, I think she didn't like being forced into signing the document and decided to do what she could to get out of it.
Loved Ian's parents - seeing Lynn Redgrave again is always a treat. Those two were a hoot. Ian's father in the robe was too funny and a real surprise - didn't see that coming.
Love it when these supposedly upright la de da families have these little hidden secrets about their lives....

I actually hated Lynette last night. Now, she's in charge--just like she wanted it. Hate her.
Gaby's clothes raid was a bit over the top. Exactly why wasn't the guy more angry?
While awkward, I think all people marrying into wealthy families should sign a prenump--especially divorcees. I really think Susan was just playing games with the whole situation, since she's has no intention of marrying Ian.
BREE! PLEASE HURRY BACK BOO! The show is not the same without my Bree. When she returns, she better get entire episodes devoted to her character. Watching the bench players in main storylines [Carlos & Edie...really?] is getting boring fast.

Whether she didn't like being asked or not, there was no reason NOT to sign that prenup. The measures she took to avoid it makes her a gold digger.
She may sincerely want to be with Ian, but it shows that his money matters. If it didn't, she would sign the prenup. Like Ian said, it's just a written form of an oral promise she already declared.
Hopefully they won't actually marry.

The portrayal of British people is getting painful. Granted they were middle class but it was so damn awfully contrived. "Oh dear I dropped a cake" "Oh that must have been dreadful" "Quite" haw haw haw. Urgh.

I did not like it that the writer had Carlos and Edie get together last night. Edie is not his type nor did they make a good match. It made me sick so I had to turn it off and switch to SOUND OF MUSIC again for the 5th time it seems in a month. I wish the writer would stop messing around with people who work well together. Carlos and Gabby were a perfect match. Now why do I have a feeling that stupid Edie will get pregnant with Carlo's baby? DUH!!!!! I could write that darn script myself.

The BIG DRESS for me was the BIG UNDRESS! Edie was excellent and Edie and Carlos are very exciting. I think they are the most interesting on this very boring show. Gaby, I'm sick of her and could care less about her. Lynette - I like Lynette, but she continues to dominate and disrespect her husband to such a degree, that I think he should leave her! How could she undermine him the way she did? I don't really care for Susan's miserable life, but enjoyed her future in-laws to no end. Mike is boring and sad, who cares about him? Sorry to say, I haven't missed BREE AT ALL! I ONLY watch DESEPARTE HOUSEWIVES while I'm waiting with great anticipation for the real Sunday hit, "Brothers and Sisters"! Sally Field is SOOOO good. Also, Nora's friend is a riot. Nora and Rebecca have both been wronged and they have amazing chemistry together.

I wish there were some way to actually contact the producers. It's that annoying background "music" -- yu know, the plink plunk plink plunk harp or whatever it is. And the voice of the narrator -- that's annoying too. I think I'll not watch any more.
