Survivor Fiji: So You Think You Can Meke

survivor(S14E08) This really has been the most lackluster season ever. Even tonight's episode which had some very funny moments isn't really enough to redeem the banality. As the more obnoxious people get voted off I wonder if even the more appealing characters will be enough to sustain the interest in the show. I also wonder, after the last few seasons, if it is possible anymore to have two tribes that are equally matched up to a merge. But at least Yau-Man and Earl consistently rock each episode.

As we began tonight's episode, Mookie, Edgardo and Alex quickly found the immunity idol bringing an end to Lisi's usefulness. Of course they don't tell Lisi and they have no intention of letting that happen. And Dreamz is out of the loop too.

The reward challenge involves learning a dance called the meke and performing it before a judging panel of tribespeople. Once again Moto wins perhaps because they dance with big smiles on their faces. The new Ravu seems just as joyless as the old Ravu was and the new Moto, infused by the gentle spirits of Michelle, Earl and Yau-Man just seems like so much fun it is easier to forget they still have the luxuries. I do think though that the editing has shown a lot less of the luxury pad after tribe switch. The challenge also proved that Rocky wasn't the jinx I suspected he was.

The middle of the episode is a snooze. Lisi hates Exile Island and seems ready to quit. Dreamz still feels confident and Michelle realizes that she and Stacy are variations on a theme and thus in direct competition.

The immunity challenge involves archery. Yau-Man turns out to be the surprise stud of the challenge. I am not sure what has happened to him since Ravu (could be the food) but he is really proving to be a very valuable player and showing that solid math skills can trump brawn in some cases. It is no surprise that Moto wins immunity. Maybe the beach is cursed over there or maybe it's Mookie, after all, every other reason has been eliminated.

Lisi decides she is ready to go and tells Alex. She is quite obnoxious about being stuck on the "loser" tribe. Then, at the last minute, she changes her mind. Now this is the second time she has had this type of meltdown but she tries to convince Alex and Edgardo that they should vote for Dreamz. I almost could have respected her for just leaving gracefully but of course that wasn't possible.

At tribal, Dreamz says Lisi is ready to go home. Lisi accuses Dreamz of not playing hard in challenges. I may not consider myself Dreamz's #1 fan but this is definitely not the case. When he presses her on wanting to stay she says her will changes minute to minute. Dreamz may not be able to speak eloquently but he gets his point across even throwing the word soliloquy back in her face (well, sort of). Finally, Lisi gets the much-needed hook. Although it seems like Dreamz will probably be next to go unless there is a merge. Next week they promise twists, we'll see.
