TV Week is reporting that CNN will make an official annoucement today about the fate of their morning show American Morning and the show's anchors, Miles O'Brien and Soledad O'Brien (from now on referred to as "The O'Briens.")
The two anchors are leaving the CNN program (ratings are down) and they are expected to be replaced by John Roberts and Kiran Chetry. If you're not sure about that name, Kiran Chetry is a woman who used to be on FOX News Channel's Fox & Friends. John Roberts came over to CNN last year and is, of course, a man.
No one's sure what will happen to The O'Briens, though they will probably stick with CNN, Soledad in a new deal (hey, they should bring back The Site, with that computerized cafe guy!) and Miles going back to his NASA/space beat and features. This isn't one of my regular viewing experiences (I channel surf around ABC, CBS, and NBC early in the morning), but I might check in to see if they're going to radically change things to compete with MSNBC's Don Imus and Fox & Friends.

Awwww, and I was one of the few people who actually watched American Morning. Of course, I think I really only watch morning news because it made Daily Show funnier...

I think American Morning is crap, but I adore Miles O'Brien. I hope they'll at least let him keep the SpaceNerd beat.

What I find amusing is that you set down an edict...that Miles and Soledad are "from now on referred to as 'The O'Briens' "...and then immediately violated your own edict by referring to them in the very next sentence as, "The two anchors...".
Self-contradictory flap-doodle.
Methinks a career in fast food beckons, Bob! :)

That's a shame because I actually like both anchors. They act like intelligent human beings not teleprompted automatons. And Fox and Friends, and every other news show on the Fox network is like watching a televised version of The National Enquirer..."All the almost news thats fit to make up"...you watch incessant speculation and judgement by the anchors on Fox, not actual, factual news.

I love John Roberts! I remember years ago when he went by the name of J.D.Roberts and was a DJ with long hair at Much Music in Canada...heh There is a picture of him on this page about 2/3 of the way down. http://www.1050chum.com/index_1970s.aspx

I'm a tv news junkie and I have a love/hate view of American Morning. I love it because it doesn't have all the fluff of the shows on NBC, ABC and CBS.
On the other hand, they're trying to fill three hours of programming with 15 minutes of news. It's INCREDIBLY repetitive. I don't think the talent is the problem.
I like both Soledad and Miles O'Brien. I hope they both stay with CNN.

Forgot to add that it's nice to see them finding a spot for John Roberts. Seems he went from #2 or 3 at CBS to just a fill-in on CNN.

I haven't watched American Morning since CNN kicked Bill Hemmer to the curb. Maybe I'll give it a chance with John Roberts. I just couldn't warm up to the O'Briens

I like both the O'Brian's and thought they did a great job. Losing ratings to an ignorant ass like Imus must hurt and seems a mystery to me. I really think Miles has handled this with class and he's great on all things in the air. John Roberts will be awesome, he's been a great sub everywhere he's been on CNN.

Wonderfull, that Kiran is receiving a full-time /Regular Slot. She will make them melt. Not only is she 'Hot', she is good on reading the news. I will, however miss Soledad----------greatly.. Can win them all. Who ever, they replace them with, will be better than that joke, they call a show at, Fox!!!!!!!!!!

The ratings might have held if the O'Briens had actually been ON the show with any regularity. It seemed to me that one or the other was missing as much as they were on. Now I guess they will have the time off they seemed to need so much.
I like my news from a news channel and will stick with CNN and avoid the superstars and glop of the other networks.

I t hink CNN made a big mistake replacing Soledad O'brian. She is a true professional and first class anchor person. I don't understand how a person like can win various awards and then get fired/replaced. Only in Television!

I didn't watch American Morning regularly, but certainly noticed that Miles and Soledad had disappeared. So far, I'm not impressed with John and Kiran. I'm tired of CNN's apparent practice of unceremoniously dumping good anchors. I hope that "The O'Briens" don't end up wherever Aaron Brown went!

CNN--Don't let middle America turn you into a faint shadow of the intelligent news station that you were. Your endorsement of Nancy Grace, Wolf Blitzer, Glen Beck, coupled with the firing of Aaron Brown, now Soledad O'Brien and Miles O'Brien show that you are out to be squeaky clean and graphically centered. Your coverage of the Virginia Tech Shootings this week catered to the lowest in people--gun shots galore and intelligence lost under the table. CNN--you're going to lose me and other viewers to Countodown and BBC and Public Broadcasting now that you've entered this search for records place.
It's a shame the John Roberts has been rewarded this way for all his work in Iraq. Shame on you-I remember your opening in the mid 1980s and what promise you had of being really groundbreaking. Shame on who owns you.

I was really unhappy to see this change in CNN. Miles and Soledad had great conversations towards the viewers. They did not sound like your average teleprompter reader. I changed to American Morning after watching Katie change directions from The Today Show.. another fatal error. But in any case, it is a terrible decision. Shame on CNN... not interesed in any of your shows except for Anderson and of course, Larry if he is not convering Anna Nicole Smith.

Really miss Soledad and Miles O'Brien here in Okinawa, Japan. It was a nightly ritual at our house to check in with them to find out what was going on in the world and back home in the states. Both were refreshing and worked well together. Hoping that CNN brings them back in a similar format and that AFN will add them back in the evenings here. It is like losing friends and the other news shows are too magazine-ish for our tastes.

I really miss Soledad O'Brian each morning. She was so professional, direct, down to earth, spontaneous and genuine. She had a gift for making people feel at ease and made her viewers feel that they were not getting a sugar coated version of her reports.l I find these characteristics to be refreshing in today's world. When CNN ratings dropped, was it assumed that it was because of the reporters? Could it simply be that this news itself is just not news any longer?
