If I didn't know better, I'd suspect that the constant rumours concerning the fate of actor David Tennant as the current incarnation of Doctor Who is nothing more than a ploy to keep news about the show constantly appearing in the UK newspaper headlines and sustain interest in the new series. We now have another report, this time in The Guardian's Media Monkey column, which states that Tennant has indeed signed on for a third series, again, citing another "industry insider".
The Sun had previously stated that Robert Carlyle (Trainspotting, 28 Weeks Later) (pictured) would take over the role midway through the current series.
There's still no official word from the BBC on Tennant's position, but it doesn't seem to make sense that he'd pack it in half-way through a series, unless there's a complex storyline which required him to vacate the role (such as The Master stealing one of his regenerations, perhaps....?).

Of all the actors who've portrayed The Doctor over the years, and I've watched them all, I think Tennant is the best. I've liked every actor who's portrayed the titular time lord in their own way, but I think Tennant strikes just the right balance of seriousness and whimsy (meaning a boatload of whimsy, which I wanted to spell with a "z" instead of an "s" since recently seeing that movie with the stuffed bunny).
Naturally I'd love to see him stay on for a good many more seasons (sorry, series), but all this speculation from sources as reliable as The Sun and The Daily Mirror is making me crazy! Let's just enjoy the ride while we have him and wait for more reliable information to come along...like word from stephen's cat.
Besides, no matter how much I, or anyone else, love Tennant's portrayal of the Doctor, it's always possible his replacement could do an even better job. If there's one constant on Doctor Who, it's that the doctor regenerates and we get a new actor from time-to-time, but with the new series it seems as if it's going to be remarkably frequent. This could, in an odd way, be a good thing, or so I keep telling myself.

Why did you put a picture of Robert Carlyle with this article? David Tennant is Doctor Who.

lol, AJ, read *all* of the article. It's right here:
"The Sun had previously stated that Robert Carlyle (Trainspotting, 28 Weeks Later) (pictured) would take over the role midway through the current series."
That's from the second-to-last paragraph. There's only 4 paragraphs total. :o)
