(S06E27) We are slowly inching our way closer to the grand finale, which means that another finalist has to go home tonight. I know, it's sad, but this is the only way we'll get closer to crowning a new American Idol.Tonight, the finalists are separated into three different groups of three on stage. One group is the Best Three, one is the Middle Three, and one is the Bottom Three. And looking at the breakdown, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to guess which group is which.
JORDIN, MELINDA, LaKISHA -- Are the Top 3. The divas are safe.
BLAKE, CHRIS, SANJAYA -- Are NOT the Top 3, NOT the bottom either. The cute boys are safe.
HALEY, GINA, PHIL -- Are the bottom three (as I predicted correctly for the first time since I started this job).
Who is safe and who's going home? Of course we won't find out until someone sings, trivia is asked, and corporations give some money. When we fast forward through that, we find out that Phil is sent back to safety once again. So one of the girls is going home.
Randy is surprised that Haley and Gina are in the Bottom Two. Paula thinks it gets tough at this stage, and she's not sure if America got it right. A smiling Simon, however, is not surprised.
America voted, and after almost 33 million votes, Haley IS staying. GINA leaves Idol tonight.
Okay, even though I picked her for the Bottom Three, I'm somewhat surprised that Gina is going home. I was looking forward to seeing The Glock sing with Bon Jovi, if only to see if she could really rock the house. I also think that she sounded pretty good the last two weeks, and I believed she would stick around past some of the boys. Unfortunately, she doesn't have Haley's legs, or the vocal talent of Jordin, Melinda, or LaKisha.
Ryan tells Gina that she should be SO proud of herself, and he says she's been "so much fun." And he actually sounds really sincere about it.
Gina thanks the fans, and says she'll see them on tour. And I have to say that it's very emotional watching her sing "Smile" as her farewell song. She's the first booted contestant I'm sad to see go.
But let's be honest, it's just a matter of time before Phil, Haley, and Chris follow Gina and Chris Sligh out the door. When the dust settles, Jordin, Melinda, LaKisha, Blake, and (I hate to say it) Sanjaya are going to be competing for the top spot. And I think Sanjaya may go farther than any of us originally thought. That's when the really shocking eliminations will occur. I can only imagine the outrage if Sanjaya outlasts Blake or LaKisha.
I still think one of the ladies (i.e Jordin) should win this thing. But I find it interesting that we've still got an equal number of guys and gals left in the competition. At this point, I really thought more of the guys (Chris or Phil) would have already been eliminated. But like Sanjaya, they just keep hanging on.
Other Highlights:
- Michael Buble fills in for Tony Bennett who is a no-show, having come down with the flu. Hey, maybe I have the same flu as Tony. I woke up last night with some kind of stomach bug, and I just assumed I came down with "Sanjaya poisoning". Okay, I think it was really food poisoning, but since we're blaming Sanjaya for everything that goes wrong in the universe right now, I figured I might as well blame him for my illness too.
- I know he was a last minute substitute, but Michael Buble looked like he never sang in front of a live audience before. The buzz on the internet already is that Buble was drunk or at least appeared to be drunk. After promoting the May 1st release of his new album, Buble engaged in some awkward "hetero-banter," jokingly asking Ryan if he was wasting his time by voting for Antonella Barba.
- The Ford commercial music video features the song "One Love," a car wash, and Kermit the Frog.
- Today, the Idol songwriter contest was officially launched, which confuses me because I thought Ken Warwick said they probably weren't going to do the songwriting competition this year. Anyway, the winning song will be performed on this year's grand finale.
- Idol Challenge: Which finalist was jokingly referred to as "Chicken Little?" Ryan says, "I don't come up with the questions."
- Idol Gives Back: Allstate has also made a generous contribution, and Ryan puts out a request for additional corporate support.
Next Week: J. Lo will be coaching the contestants. Should be interesting.

I'm not gonna be one of those Sanjaya bashers tonight, I'm just happy that I get to see Haley for one more week. She's finally learning to dress the part nicely! So long Rocker' Chick!

I am very disappointed Gina went home. She was the only true rocker on the show. Lakisha and Melinda bored me a long time ago along with Phil. None of them do anything for me. Blake is outstanding, Chris very good. Jordin surprises me every week. I have nothing printable to say about Sanjaya. I feel gypped.

No one can stop the phenomenon that is Sanjaya, Love him or hate him; he is the biggest thing to hit the music world in a long time. I haven’t watched Idol sense season one, but I watch now, I’m officially a Fanjaya.

I was able to vote for Blake (who i love about 10 times),but only able to get through about one or two times for Gina ( I tried).
AND only about one time for Phil as well......
So how can Gina be going home?
I thought she had a great voice.
She may have the last laugh, just like Chris Daughtry has.
Idol is very strange this year........
If Sanjaya wins, I bet this will be Idols last year in its current format.

Well, this season is one step closer to bull****. Haley, Phil, Chris, and that piece of crap, Sanjaya, should have all gone home before Gina. Hopefully she lands on her feet, because she's far more deserving than at least four or five of the remaining people.
Go Jordin or Blake. The only ones left I can stand.

It might not be that hard to get rid of Sanjaya. If anyone knows someone that will burn him to ashes, I know someone who will snort him.

I was disappointed to see Gina go too. But I think the outfit and hair are what hurt her last night. She sounded great but looked awful.
Haley or Phil should have gone.

Sanjaya really should have gone, but if not him then it should be Phil. It was heartbreaking to see Gina perform that song at the end.

Friends and I were talking about how Idol seems to be loosing its creditbilty this season with the way the voting is going. In Britin Simon stopped the Pop Idol and replaced it with X factor in which the judges have complete say on who passes through to each round. What does everyone think about Idol changing to that format. Although I would love to see for Season 7, and I think everyone would agree to this idea and write to Fox/ Idol, They should have instead of the top 24 of new comers make it a top 12 and then cut that down to 6 of the newcomers, new possible idols, then bring back 6 of previous seasons contestants who did not win and make the top 12 that way. That would rock some votes it would bring back fans of previous idol contestants and would shake up the competition with those who already been through the process with those who have not. What does everyone think about that idea?

As Simon Cowell used to advise- "Close your eyes and listen to them sing..."- Okay, the looks, the moves and such are all a part of the performance, but it all comes down to HOW DOES IT SOUND?
You cannot see Haley's legs on a cd, or Sanjaya's hair, or dance moves, etc...
I would buy cd's by Chris or Melinda, that's what counts for me. They are the masters of sound.

I see where Jambalaya gets his annoying ways. Did anyone else notice last night when the show came back from commercial, his father was bear hugging Ryan in the aisle. Ryan had to push him away. Tonight his father was jumping up and down in the aisles, smiling that annoying smile that runs in the family. Blech

Come on people PLEASE VOTE FOR someone with TALENT!!!I'm so totally ticked that GINA got knocked off last night. GINA was improving each week and it's a shame that HOWARD STERN told his listeners to vote for the NO SINGING SANJAYA!!!!!
