Another day, another show put on hiatus.
This time, it's The Black Donnellys. The NBC family crime drama, which replaced Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (itself currently on hiatus), will go on hiatus starting April 23. The show hasn't been doing too well in the ratings in the Monday at 10 slot.
And I know you're wondering: will Studio 60 return? Nope, at least not in that time slot. But for you fans of reality show, you're in luck! The Real Wedding Crashers, a new reality show based on the hit movie, will air in the Monday at 10 slot. NBC was going to put it on another night but they liked it so much (so much!!) that they're going to put it on after Heroes. The April 23 date is also the day that Heroes returns.
So, two quality dramas are put on the shelf, next to months of old boxes of macaroni and cheese, so another reality show can debut early. Fantastic.

I prefer Studio 60 to Black Donnellys. I liked them both okay but sometimes it was hard to follow Black Donnellys. I like some reality shows too and there should be a balance but I hate that networks think that any reality show during sweeps is better than a half decent scripted show. I get they are cheap and you can make them in a few weeks but it's not the only answer to ratings problems.
Maybe Monday night at 10 pm is just a bad time slot... period. For me Monday is a sports night and a decent game will over ride what else is on. I can record 24 and Heroes and just watch them later. But I have to add.... the best show on Monday night is HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER!!!! May the network clue in and renew it.

Wow. NBC has LOST it!!!! Who's green lighting this crap?? Have they SEEN how degrading the movie was? I didn't even make it through the whole thing.
Can't say I'm not happy to say good riddance to the Donnelly's though!

I love this time of year! All the networks' schedules are falling apart, reality shows run for hours on end, and upfronts are just around the corner.

So glad to hear it! Just as I informed the wizards at NBC, I would NEVER have watched this show because they dumped Studio 60 for it. Mondays and Thursdays were the only nights NBC was getting right, but now I only watch the Thursday night shows, and if they don't bring ER back soon, they will lose that audience as well. Studio 60 was critically acclaimed, but cost more to make than some of their other shows, so the brilliant folks at that network have chosen to keep airing Friday Night Lights the entire season and take off one of the best new things they had done in years. Frankly, it could have won on Tuesdays at 10!

The show had potential.. it was just a little slow moving and a bit too much violence. I'm gonna miss it tho. One of the few shows I actually watched!

I was never a fan of BD, especially after it replaced one of my faves from this season, Studio 60. However at least it was interesting, thought provoking TV. Now another Reality Show gets the green light...whoopee.

I really loved The Black Donnellys. IMHO it was the best new show I've watched this year. And I'm not a fan of the gangster type shows. But it had a bold story line and lots of character depth. Studio 60 was also a fav of mine. I never missed an episode. But neither shows were for short attention spans. And neither offered much in the way of laughs.
Lately, if you want your show to fail have it air on NBC or FOX. No wonder Cable TV has the best shows nowadays.
What's with the appeal of Reality Shows? Most are a complete waste of time. Short attention span viewers are their biggest audience is my guess. I've seen more drama watching an Ant Farm. Or American's love to laugh at people making fools of themselves while they compete for cash. I thought that was what game shows were for...

"This show used to be cutting edge political and social satire, but it’s gotten lobotomized by a candy-ass broadcast network hell-bent on doing nothing that might challenge their audience. We’re about to do a sketch that you’ve seen already about 500 times. Yeah, no one’s gonna confuse George Bush with George Plimpton. Yeah, we get it. We’re all being lobotomized by this country’s most influential industry that’s just throwing in the towel on any endeavor to do anything that doesn’t include the courting of 12 year old boys. And not even the smart 12 year olds. The stupid ones. The idiots. Which there are plenty, thanks in no small measure to this network, so why don’t you just change the channel? Turn off your TVs, do it right now, go ahead.
A struggle between art and commerce. Well, there’s always been a struggle between art and commerce. And now I’m telling you art is getting its ass kicked. And it’s making us mean, and it’s making us bitchy. It’s making us cheap punks. That’s not who we are! We’re eating worms for money. Who wants to screw my sister? Guys are getting killed in a war that’s got theme music and a logo? That remote in your hand is a crack pipe. Oh yeah, every once in a while we pretend to be appalled-Pornographers! It’s not even good pornography. They’re just this side of snuff films. And friends, that’s what’s next because that’s all that’s left.
And the two things that make them scared gutless are the FCC and every psycho religious cult that gets positively horny at the very mention of a boycott.
These are the people they’re afraid of –
This prissy, feckless, off-the-charts, greed-filled whorehouse of a network.
And you’re watching this thoroughly unpatriotic Mother-"

You need to back up, because unless you have watched Friday Night Lights, you have no right to demean it. And I know you haven't, because if you had seen it you wouldn't be demeaning it as it is the best show on television at this brief moment in time.

Another day, another show that requires a brain to watch is banished. It wasn't Studio 60 (what is/was?). Lord - please protect us from another version of "Who Wants to Dance With or Marry a Wife Swapping American Idol?". Please - I'm begging you.

It's a great show with a great plot/ setting. These moves of NBC(off with Studio 60 and The Black Donnellys) shows you that the NBC management truly doesn't know what's going on.
Bring it on after 24 ends and watch the ratings JUMP THROUGH THE ROOF. 24 owns the Monday night police/action audience.

I can't believe they are canning the Donnelly's - what a dark and great show. NBC ran the show several weeks, get us all tuned into the characters and wham, gone, zip, bang, boom. Idiots!
