Hey, here's a shocker: The Great American Dream Vote has dismal ratings. So bad, in fact, that ABC yanked it off the schedule after airing only two episodes. Donny Osmond was the host of the sick game show that had people come on television and tell their sob story and beg to have their dream come true. Even the promos for the show made it sound demented and wrong. Last night's episode came in dead last behind fourth place Friday Night Lights on NBC. Instead, ABC will fill the Wednesday 8 pm time slot with episodes of George Lopez. While we may never know whose dream comes true, I can tell you that mine has.

I watched the first episode and it felt so wrong. Those dreams were not interesting, some even sounded selfish. Some dreams featured in the premiere were: a bald guy who wanted to get hair plugs so he would have the nerve to ask his girlfriend to marry him (he needed those as he would look good in the pictures and thought that by being bald he wasn't good enough); two mothers who wanted money so their pre-teen daughters could one day aspire to win beauty pageants such as Miss USA; a woman who wanted to open a sanctuary for a specified species of dogs (sorry, I don't remember what species); etc. As you can see, no big dreams that make you go awwww.
And I'm not going to even bother commenting on the show's format. This show should have never seen the light of day.

A long time ago I saw some behind-the-scenes show about game shows, and the guy that came up with the Newlywed Game said they tried to do a version that centered on Mother-in-Laws. But the pilot failed miserably because, as they soon realized, one person's mother-in-law is another person's mother. And you don't win any contests by mocking someone's mother.
Same goes for this show. For every dream America grants, that's however many dreams crushed. And no one wants to watch a show about someone's dreams being crushed.

It seems as if George Lopez and Jim Belushi have made careers out of filling the holes left in ABC's schedule from failed shows.

From what I hear, this show was a re-do of an old game show from the '50's where housewives would come on and talk about their miserable lives and win refrigerators and stuff. I guess it just goes to show that what may have passed for entertainment fifty years ago won't cut it now.

I felt like I was watching Japanese TV when I saw the first 10 minutes of "The Great American Dream Vote". And now it's off the air? Hahahahahahahha.
Brilliant.

ABC should of never cancelled Invasion. It had a hard core following and it was very well done. It wasn't a cheesy Sci-fi show. Now they fill their schedule with repeats of over the hill comedies, and terrible reality shows. I'm sure ABC will move Lost to Friday next year and then cancel it.

I'd really just like to know how long until ABC just attempts to bring back Millionaire instead of all these awful awful game shows. This failed. Set For Life obviously failed. Show Me the Money failed. They lost the rights to Deal or No Deal (They originally made 4 episodes in 2004 that were never aired). I guarantee Bingo Night won't be around for long. ABC just needs to bite the bullet and bring back Millionaire in some form if they need a game show. They lost the rights to the show in June 2006, but they can get it back and air it. It's a guaranteed hit, and this is the only way they will have a hit game show. Instead we get half assed things like this.

I thought this sounded a bit ghoulish when I heard the promos - interesting thing though is I recently saw an ad for a Game Show Network show looking for "real people" to be judges of a similar kind of thing. People tell their sob story and the judges decide who gets the bucks.
Are there no decent scripts left in Hollywood that it's come to this?

Anna, such negative about the show. What ABC will not tell you is that the show is a really a remake of the British TV show "Million Pound Giveaway" in which judges decide who gets the money, rather than the audience. Producers should have spent more time in the casting process to find more compelling contestants. Oprah's new show "The Big Give" will attempt to present more 'heart warming' stories.

Actually the new Game Show Network show is called Without Prejudice. It's not a dream show. It's a show where you can either be honest and say why you deserve the money or lie, cheat, and deceive to. It's incredibly enjoyable and a very mellow viewing. Much better than this crap.

To answer comment #10, I remember when "The One" lasted for 2 episodes last July. Looking back, it copied American Idol way too much. As for this show, I didn't see it lasting. Dreams are meant to be done on your own, not letting someone else decide on your dream. ABC needs to get out of the game show business and focus on their hit dramas like Grey's Anatomy and get better on their comedies! That's two in a row that have flopped for ABC on Tuesday! Putting this kind of show and getting CRUSHED by American Idol on Tuesday night was a complete DISASTER! It's probably 96th, 99th or 100th place in the ratings the way it looks! Didn't ABC know that 30 million people watch American Idol on the other network, Fox? Those people plan to watch Idol that night and nowhere else! And I feel sorry for all those people that won't even have their dreams fulfilled. Guess they'll have to walk on some long, long road 3,000 miles from New York or Pennsylvania to California to fulfill their dream or success. And with no laptop or Blackberry to carry along with them......

I loved the host....still love the host! I am not a fan of the type of dreams that were presented. I mean, when a bald guy wins out over Hound heaven' What does that say about our country? I don't know. I am sometimes embarrassed by human nature. I think more deserving or really heart touching dreams would have insured this shows longevity and me being able to see Donny more often. Oh well, donny.com here I come. May all of your dreams come true.

I also thought the first two episodes were rather silly and even dumb. I also prayed that there might be a serious side to the show and this might be my chance for some help. I'm so in credit card debt that I attempted suicide twice in Jaunary and this really scared my kids, who are always there for me. I wanted to take them on a vacation for two weeks, to an Island. Well, now that dream is gone for good. What will be done with all the letters, ect?
Will you send them back? In the future, don't start a show that gives people hope and then yank it away so soon. Linda

I watched this show with my cousins Janet Buttimer and Tonya Buttimer, and we all threw up chunks. The show sucked, and Janet threw a chair at the TV.
