When I was watching The Riches on Monday night, FX had ads for the season finale of Dirt on fairly heavy rotation. Of course, the big promotional point of the ad was that Jennifer Aniston was going to guest star on her Friends buddy Courteney Cox's show... and they were going to kiss! In fact, not only did FX make a huge deal out of this kiss, but tabloid entertainment shows and morning news shows all over the country breathlessly touted "Courteney and Jennifer's lesbian kiss!" for weeks leading up to the episode.With all that build-up, you knew the kiss was going to be lame. And it was, as you can see below. But why is this still a big deal? Maybe in this case it was worth promoting because two big stars from a hit show reunite and just happen to share a lingering kiss. But, unless we're getting something we've never seen before, like an actual lesbian sex scene or some other act that's still taboo on basic cable, emphasizing girl-on-girl action is a pretty shaky way to promote a show. Maybe this non-event will kill that tactic once and for all.
(By the way, for two longtime friends, the lack of chemistry in the attached scene is pretty palpable, isn't it?)

As much as I heard the talk about the "kiss", they also quoted both Courtney and Jennifer as saying it wasn't that big of a deal, it was going to be a small kiss.

Wasn't shown, just implied. The scene cut away and Chandler and Joey came back to their apartment in a hurry, headed their rooms in order to "to go sleep"

The kiss on DS9 was a thousand times hotter because the characters THERE were actually in love while on "Dirt" Jennifer is simply hitting on Courteney and she rejects Jen totally. Boring boring boring. I kissed guys during spin-the-bottle hotter than those two did just to later on be able to heavily make out with the girls on that game ;-)

There's supposed to be a lack of chemistry--they are actors playing characters, and Lucy really doesn't much like Tina. I don't know why FX promoted this the way they did, unless they thought more heterosexual males would watch. If so, I'm sure they were also disappointed.
