Finally, one of my wishes might come true: Survivor is seriously considering moving the show to a colder climate.
Canada, to be precise. Host Jeff Probst reveals that show creator Mark Burnett is thinking about doing the next season in Canada, because they're running out of jungle/island places to go to. They probably aren't really running out of places to go, but after a while all of these places start to look and feel the same.
Probst is worried that a colder place would a.) be worse for the bodies of the contestants and b.) you wouldn't have chicks in bikinis. Well, for the first concern, I think that's the reason to do it. Give these contestants a challenge the other contestants of other seasons never had. And for the second concern, I have the solution.
Hot tub!
Seriously, the show needs a kick in the pants, and a colder world would really reinvent the show a bit.

Great, just what Canada needs: reinforcement of the stereotype that we all live in igloos.

Totally agree. I picked up all the DVD sets and honestly after watching them all within a month I am having a seriously hard time remembering what was where and when because everything always is green, humid and hot hot hot - first the people are fat because they ate a lot to be able to survive the starving and later on they get frightening thin, hairy and all start to look the same.
The hot tub is a nice idea which was used in lots and lots of instalments of Big Brother everywhere on the world.
But the problem is that people want to see places they can later on visit on vacation and I doubt you'll find anyone who's willing to go to Canada's "Outback". So I think they should first try places like Tasmania, New Zeeland, Hokkaido, Sachalin, Kam chatka or at least they should go to Alaska and not Canada for that at least is something people could regard as part of their home country they should maybe pay a visit to. Or Iceland, Greenland or even better Norway, Sweden or Finland. Canada simply isn't anything close to exotic. It's too close, although vast and I am really interested in seeing more of Canada - but would you think you'd see much of a country on a TV show that is like Club Med without food? (because, you know, Survivor up until now has been to places where you usually find Club Med :-) )
And I wonder why the did not go to Hawaii yet. There are enough islands there that are not that inhabited - I guess viewers would think that it's not far enough from civilization.

I can think of more exciting locations than Canada. Off the top of my head...
The Maldives or Andaman and Nicobar Islands. A Hindu/Indian theme would be fun.
On a Greek Island with a Greek/Mediterranean/Minoan theme
On a Irish or Scottish Island with a Celtic theme.
Somewhere in Scandinavia, with a Viking theme.

well at least a hot spring. hot tub would be too temptation island...
I think its time to move the show along. I've been a fan since the beginning and I'd like a cold(er) season. Not arctic, that's no fun... and then they can go back to the bikinis and coconuts.

I remember thinking back during the third or fourth seasons, that they should switch from warm climates to cold ones. Although, as pointed out, it would cause larger safety risks (don't want anyone freezing, and can't really hide from a polar bear), nor would there be any flesh shown. Mind you, at this point in Survivor's life, it's now or never. I stopped watching after All-Stars, and the whole "Exile Island" is okay but not cool enough. They should either go to somewhere in the Arctic, whether that's in Canada, Greenland, or Alaska. Or, to transition, they could always do something in northern Ontario, in the forests with rain and bears. That would be kinda cool.
Also, in response to Bash, they could eliminate the "boring" factor of having a show in Canada by not naming it Survivor: Canada. It could be like... Survivor: Arctic Shield, or Survivor: Tundra Outback ;)

Unless they're already casting and shooting it, I wouldn't get your hopes up. Why would they reveal something like that ahead of time. I still vote for Survivor: Sonoran Desert in August. We can barely survive WITH A/C.

I think they should have Canadains come down to America and see if they can survive with the way the country is run.

Agree with #4 - why is it that people south of the border (that'd be you Americans lol) have this perception Canada = cold.
They could EASILY hold a Survivor in the interior of Algonquin Park in July-September, as an example, where there's 1000s of lakes, temperatures that can get in the 30s (that's celsius), and the biggest, meanest black flies, horse flies, wasps and mosquitoes you can find. And completely desolate otherwise - with plenty of black and brown bears tossed in.
Or ditto for anywhere in the lower interior of BC. Or how about the plains (read: almost desert like) of southern Alberta. Drumheller region.
It's not all igloos, guys. I've spent colder summers in Chicago and Seattle than I have in most of Canada.

I'm guessing when they say the cold of Canada, they're thinking somewhere like Nunavut in the middle of winter. "Survivor" often tries to involve the natives of the country (and its heritage) into the show, and they could easily do this up north. Plus, it's isolated enough to not be ruined by people trying to sabotage (whether intentionally or unintentionally) the filming. That's why they couldn't do a show in Hawaii or something like that.
A lack of near-nudity would suck, but once they get into fire-heated igloos or hot tubs, that would change. Plus, since *I* have to deal with -50 temperatures for a month every year, it'd be nice to see others have to do so!

I can attest they are bringing the show to Canada. I was at the base of the CN Tower yesterday (Thurs 29 March) in Toronto and saw a two-man camera crew with one of those red and yellow clue-box stands.
The crew didn't seem too happy that I picked what they were doing when they overheard me pointing their presence out to a friend I was with, but they weren't being especially stealthy.

we are a bit upset, living in canada is a great place but when it comes to t.v. we suck.... We are never allowed to apply for any type of reality show. Maybe your next show doesn't have to be taped in canada but wouldn't it be cool to have two teams competing THE CANADIANS against THE AMERICANS. You did do that all africans, all hispanic nationality stuff one season.

What is this cold climate crap in Canada. I am sitting here in Vancouver,B.C. at 10 p.m. in my bathing suit mind you with all the fans going and it is still sweltering hot. There are lots of islands off the coast of B.C. that they could do survivor. And being in B.C. we get the heat and lots of rain and thundershowers. So lets get with it people.
