(S04E03) I'm always amazed at just how much programming ABC is able to mine from Dancing With The Stars. The performance recap show that led up to the live results show was another good example. Not that there's anything wrong with it. I'm guessing that when the numbers come in that recap show will do two, if not three, times as many viewers as George Lopez and According To Jim would in the same slot.
But the amazing ability of DWTS to fill the programming schedule isn't why we are here. It's time to send one of the teams packing. After the usual schedule of events, of course. Laila and Maksim got the encore with their mambo. That wouldn't have been my choice, but it's a good one. It was one of the highlights of the week two performances.
After that, they got right to revealing the first two safe couples. Heather & Jonathan, and Clyde & Elena will both be back next week. Dionne Warwick came out next to sing "I say a little prayer" while the pros danced. Dionne still sounds great, and it was nice to see Anna Trebunskaya on the show again.
The audience comments segment is back this year, with the usual celebrity cameos. Among them were Sela Ward, Brian Austin Green, Chuck Woolery, and Robbie Williams, who took a shot at Leeza Gibbons. Then, two more couples got the good news. Ian & Cheryl and Laila & Maksim will also return.
Next week, half of the couples will be doing the jive. Eight of the pros came out to perform an exhibition, showing once again just how great they all are at what they do. As often happens, the pro performance was the best part of the show. It was worlds better than Jimmy Kimmel's bit to explain the tango, the other dance featured next week.
Samantha stumbled her way through reading names off of a card as they revealed the first couple in the bottom two. If it was something like Trebunskaya, I could understand, but how do you mispronounce Paulina? That's live TV I guess. Paulina and Alec are in the bottom two. Dionne came back to sing "Do you know the way to San Jose."
The behind the scenes footage was next, with an ominous quote from Shandi saying, "I do not want to be the first one going home." That was where I got a little nervous for Shandi. After the performances, I thought she was safe to get through for another week. But after reading all of the comments from TV Squad readers, it was clear that not everyone is as fond of Shandi as I am. Add in that typical reality show editing and things weren't looking good for the cute blond from the game show network.
Trista, Kenny, and Tucker all returned to talk about being the first one kicked off. One more trip to the spotlights revealed that Joey & Kym, Apollo & Julianne, John & Edyta, Leeza & Tony, and Billy Ray & Karina, were all safe. That left Shandi & Brian in the bottom two with Paulina & Alec.
In the end, Paulina & Alec were sent home. She was very gracious in praising the other couples and I think she came out of the whole thing looking very good. You could certainly make a case that someone else should have been cut, but that's the nature of the show. You never know what is going to happen with the fan vote. Erin will be back next Monday with week three, the jive and the tango.

James: I thought the Jimmy Kimmel segment was hilarious. It's very seldom that I laugh out loud, but that had me roaring. Where's your humor?

Darn! I was hoping Paulina would last at least two more weeks. That way she would have danced on her birthday like Leeza did. Paulina's birthday is April 9.

Brett: Jimmy Kimmel was very entertaining, I thought. And as far as "that's live TV, I guess", I'd respond with, "no, that's Samantha Harris's weaknesses shining through. She is no Tom Bergeron, who is miles and miles more polished, more likeable, and more entertaining." I've never liked her on the show as co-host. She's just not good enough.

I hate when Samantha Harris asks the stars to comment on the other stars dancing ability and who is the biggest threat and who isn't. That puts them on the spot and it's so obvious that she's hoping they will dog another celeb and they never do. She should stop already.

Darn, I don't watch 'dancing', but if I knew Kimmel was gonna be on I surely would have. Admit it. The guy can easily touch your funny bone.

This wasn't the "Week 3 Results" show. This was the 3rd show, but it was the Results show for Week 2.

WHY DO THE JUDGES SHOW THEIR PREFERENCE FOR THE SAME PEOPLE EVERY WEEK. WHAT ABOUT IAN AND CHERYL, THEY ARE SO GREAT. IAN HAS MORE DANCING ABILITY THAN HALF THE PEOPLE. HE IS GORGEOUS AND MOVES PRETTY GOOD, I HOPE TO SEE HIM GO TO THE TOP

Hmm. No mention of the blackout as the elimination was being announced? I understand that an ABC control room malfunction affected the eastern and central time zones.

I think Shanndi cut her own throat in her interview before her dance. She was arrogant and showed her very female rights think when she announced that she wore the pants in the dancing relationship and her "star" lead listened to her. It was ungracious and made her professional dance partner look like a whipped fool.

They drag the results out too long. The recap is not needed.

I don't see why they couldn't combine the recap show with the results show... it's not like the results actually take an hour to be announced. I just tuned in for the last five minutes. Yeah, I missed some dancing, but all the talking just isn't worth it to me.
It's a shame about Paulina and Alec-- I liked Paulina more than Shandi and was hoping she'd stay a little longer. Oh well.

Cant stand that cohost chick, she asks a question to the dancers then never lets them finish the answer as she pulls the microphone away so she can blab herself!! DUMP HER!!!!!!

I was sorry to see Paulina go. She exibited grace under pressure, and humility. I don't think Shandi will last beyond this week, because her arrogance end ego will get in the way.

Thank you RadioScott for mentioning the black out - I was really upset that the end of the show was blacked out, but I thought it was a local thing. Anyway, I didn't know for sure who went home until this morning on GMA. I think Billy Ray was completely surprised that he wasn't in the bottom two, much less not the one to go home. I think this will be another "year of the guys" - the only strong female is Leila, but there are at least three strong guys - Ian, Joey, and Apollo. We shall see.

Seems strange..the two most beautiful received the lowest scores..hmmm.They were not the worst.I like Shandi. This last dance was better than the first.I believe she will even be better the next one.Heather's flip was surprising. She must have been thinking about the fifty-six million she received in the divorce settlement.

Suck-Mantha Harris should not even be allowed on set. She's been terrible since the show started. We fastforward right through her dumb questions and OVERPOWERING demenor. The new boobs didn't help her one bit.
