(S06E25) Two important questions will be answered tonight, Ryan says. "Who's going home, and how will Sanjaya wear his hair?"Blake is safe. LaKisha is safe. Phil IS in the bottom three. Melinda is safe. Chris R rebounds from last week's bottom two and IS safe. Sanjaya (yawn) is safe AGAIN. Haley IS in the bottom three. And Jordin, of course, is safe. Which means, either Chris Sligh or Gina is in the bottom three, but we won't know who until the end of the show.
Fast Forward. Turns out CHRIS SLIGH joins PHIL and HALEY in the bottom three. But Philly is sent back to safety once again.
SLIGH vs. SCARNATO? Who's going home? Randy says it's a tough call. Paula says they both deserve "warmth" from the audience. Simon thinks it's "Bye, Bye Curly."
And Simon is RIGHT. It's the end of the road for Chris Sligh who wowed us with his humor and charm early on, but then disappointed with his weekly (weakly) performances.
Am I sad to see Chris Sligh go? Not really. If not this week, I figured he'd be going sometime soon. He seemed really tired lately, and his personality had lost its shine. Once cocky and confident, he just looked like a beaten dog. It's probably better that he leaves now before Idol completely beats the fun right out of him.
The only bad thing about Chris Sligh going is that he was one of my eight-year-old son's favorites (the other being Blake) and he's a little upset about it right now. I'm sure he'll get over it by tomorrow. At least I hope he will.
Did the right person go home tonight? I think so. I think it was time for Chris Sligh to go. American voted, and Chris obviously hasn't built as strong a fanbase as Haley or Phil or Sanjaya.
And yeah, looks like there's no stopping Sanjaya. This is going to be a long season.
Other highlights:
Ryan comes out wearing a Sanjaya-inspired faux-hawk and says, "I've been Sanjayed." Okay, that sounded dirty and creepy.
- The finalists sing "I Fought The Law" in tonight's western-themed Ford music video. Hey, Chris R. look kinda cute dressed up like an outlaw. Wow, I like him a lot better when he's not singing.
- American Idol Challenge: Which Idol finalist from Birmingham was dubbed the "Velvet Teddy Bear? Bo, Ruben, or Hicks? Again, super easy.
- Exxon Mobile came forward with a generous donation after last week's corporate appeal. No word on exactly how generous the donation was.
- Gwen Stefani sings "The Sweet Escape" and Akon is there to Woo-Hoo. I like the top of Gwen's outfit, but don't think the bottom is flattering. But hey, she still rocks and is the hippest, most contemporary pop star Idol has ever snagged. After her performance she gives a plug for her upcoming tour (which starts April 21). And she also gives a shout-out to baby Kingston (aww sweet, she's such a hip mommy). Ryan tells us Gwen will also be part of Idol Gives Back.
- There's enough time for Chris Sligh to sing his final song, so I really don't know think they need to increase the results shows to one hour in length.
- Phil owes Chris Sligh $50 bucks. I'm guessing that they had a bet about which one of them was getting the boot first.
Next Week: The music of Tony Bennett.

This is such a joke, sanjaya needs to go. Idol needs to change the rules so that the judges have some influence too so we don't have contestants staying that do not belong.

He wasn't going to win it, so he might as well have gone home this week. The same can be said for everyone but Jordin, Melinda and Lakisha (in that order).
The big question at this point is: How far will Sanjaya go?

Every week Sanjaya remains cuts someone else more deserving out of the spotlight. Seriously he should just bow out.

puleeeeeeeeeeeeeez! After years of watching and actually enjoying this show in spite of Paula (Abdul, I don't think so, it's probably Smith), I have given up. The public is being portrayed as the one to blame for that idiot Sanjaya returning each week. STOP! It's a ratings hoax!!!! Let the really talented contestants vie for the title, which incidently didn't do much for Rueben, did it? Anyway, hang it up ya little twinkie, step aside like a man (if that's possible, being a man I mean) and let the talent flow. Sign me former fan

OMG, I agree with you totally jeanette. American Idol should change the rules and have an option to override the vote when it is necessary. And this BS that is going on with Sanjaya well it seems wrong just wrong. Well that's my two cents. Hope I did not offend anyone. Good nite.

If I were Sanjaya I would bow out just for the fact he is being made fun of EVERYWHERE.
That said I no longer care about him, I just laugh and move on like he's not really there. If I were Chris tonight I wouldn't have hugged Sanjaya. It's pretty clear that the rest of the group doesn't want him around. And Chris R and Blake seem a little too friendly to me...

Very funny Deadwrong! I just don't understand why one person is allowed to continue like this. Shouldn't there be an online petition for him to bow out? It's been made public that the contestants are allowed to go online in between shows. As much as Howard Stern and VFTW are pro Sanjaya, There needs to be a more anti-Sanjaya force organized.
I predict it will be Jordin who wins it in the end. She is quite spunky and easily molded. Additionally, she will definitely sell many more albums than Taylor Hicks (whom I saw in concert on the idol tour and can't sing at all!).

sanjaya is just awful. How is it he can mess up as he does and he is still on. He actually feels that he is good. He is just strange. If he wins that is the end of idol for me.

Let me say this about that:
I just watched Sanjaya's performance on YouTube to refresh my memory, and while no means good, he was having fun up there and he sounded pretty good in the chorus. However, he once again had a poor song choice. However, if the votes are based on the performance (which is the way I believe it should be) then, Chris S. did have the worst performance of the show last night and should have gone home. After Chris S., Sanjaya was still not the worst, that honor would go to Haley. She was awful, I can't stand it when these singers go in to vocal histrionics for songs that don't require it. Even more so when they dont have the pipes to pull it off. BTW: could somebody please explain why people thing Haley is hot? She is not attractive at all.
As for the people whining about the integrity of American Idol? That is the most ridiculous thing I ever heard, the show is all about pimping yourself, it has no integrity. Besides, I would rather listen to Sanjaya all day then listen to or see Taylor Michael McDonald Hicks. Talk about no talent, and he actually won.
Anyway, bottom line, I lilked Chris S. but he has been dull the last few weeks and looks really uncomfortable on stage. He was awful last night. He was actually better tonight in his farewell, but still "not good dawg"

Not a surprise that Chris got kicked off tonight ... he's been slowly going downhill since Hollywood week.
Did anyone else think that Gwen Stefani was lip synching? I think she was ... sheesh. What a rip.

Unlike Sanjaya who comes off as an arrogant no talent closet hack who acts like the show is "dress up time".

Wow! America is keeping that kid in. Can't blame him for being horrible...the judges brought him in. Can't blame him for still being there...America won't relases him from his pain. Quite honestly, would you bow out in the same situation?
That being said, I should kick myself for not entering my dog. Now, you should see her hair!

I don't think you get that America created Sanjaya, he's capitalising on his asset to his benefit.
Which is really as American as apple pie, and is my American idol. Disagree and you're a commie terrorist.
