Kal Penn, best known for playing Kumar in the flick Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, is going to be hanging around the University of Pennsylvania campus next spring. And not to search for the perfect American meal, Philly-style.
Penn, who just wrapped Harold & Kumar 2 and was most recently seen on TV playing a teenaged terrorist on 24, will be teaching two courses tentatively named, "Images of Asian Americans in the Media" and "Contemporary American Teen Films," according to a UPenn press release, which said his real name is Kalpen Modi.
"Mr. Modi is one of the leading Asian American actors of his generation and is particularly aware of how his racial and ethnic identification has affected his professional experiences," Grace Kao, director of the Asian American Studies Program said.
Wonder how much time will be spent discussing 24 and the vast consumptions of hamburgers?

Actually, Penn is most recently to be seen in a serious role in Mira Nair's "The Namesake," a film by the director of "Monsoon Wedding" and "Vanity Fair," so I think he may have a wider range of experience to draw on than fast food only.

Kal Penn is winning rave reviews for his heart-breaking performance in Mira Nair's Namesake. There is more to the man than burgers just as there is more to Hollywood than Harold & Kumar!

honestly i cant imagine him in a serious role, i couldnt take him seriously in 24, i kept waiting for him to say "dude, lets get high man...."
i'll have to watch "the namesake" and see how he does.
i read the book and it was hard to get through.
my favorite books written by people of south asian descent are:
1) Autobiography of a Yogi by his Holiness Swami Yogananda(a MUST read)
2) Death of Vishnu by Manil Suri
