Since "The Man From Tallahassee" aired, Terry O'Quinn has gotten a lot of recognition for one of the most exciting performances of Lost's third season. The LA Times recently published an extensive interview with the actor, who gave his take on Locke's transformation over the last three seasons. Executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse also shed light on what we can expect from Locke in the future. Here are the highlights:
- Damon Lindelof has stated that when the show ends, Locke will be one of the most significant characters.
- Carlton Cuse believes that John Locke is "the heart of the show."
-
Most of the Lost actors live in the more populated areas of Oahu, but O'Quinn lives in a more isolated spot. He is known to walk two hours along the beach from his house to the Lost set.
-
O'Quinn sympathizes with fan complaints about the show's new timeslot and the growing number of unanswered questions. He feels that the single-character focus in each episode makes the overall show "patchy." However, he believes that examining each set of flashbacks on a individual basis is more satisfying.
-
O'Quinn was disappointed that Locke went from a source of strength in Season One to a weaker, "emasculated" character in Season Two. Carlton Cuse noted that the actor's "disillusionment with his role" helped him to portray Locke's confusion about the hatch.
-
The degree of Locke's significance has not been revealed to O'Quinn, but the actor is convinced that the character's desire for answers, not rescue, is what makes him special.
-
Locke and Cooper will not be seen for another five weeks, but the resolution of that mystery will play a big part in the final episodes of the season.
Another new episode of Lost airs this Wednesday at 10pm ET.
