Our friends at sister site Cinematical have some good news for any remaining fans of The X-Files: a second theatrical film, which star David Duchovny has been talking about making for a few years now, is closer to being a reality. During a set visit to Duchovny's currently shooting film The TV Set, IESB.net found out from the actor that negotiations are currently in their final stages, and that the film should start filming in 2008 or sooner.According to IESB, Duchovny had mentioned the possibility of a second X-Files movie in 2005; instead of an alien conspiracy plot, though, Scully and Mulder would be engaged in a "standalone supernatural horror film," as IGN reported back then. That's probably a good idea, since the series ended five years ago (and most people stopped watching soon after the first movie frustrated die-hard fans way back in 1998). Continuing the conspiracy storyline would feel like they were beating the pile of dog food that the dead horse was made into. Though I wouldn't mind seeing a glimpse of the Cigarette Smoking Man again...

I think it's a good idea to, but X-Files 3 needs to come out on 12-12-12 and be about the alien killing everyone!

Hopefully they'll get the movie right this time. But I have serious doubts, even if it's a stand-alone. Although I didn't hate the last few seasons as much as other people did, the first movie was the point where the series veered off course.
I feel that the critical problem with "X-files" was that Chris Carter got too much credit for it's creation and evolution. If you look back at the first four seasons, Carter shared writing and producing duties with three others: Howard Gordon, Glen Morgan, and James Wong. Howard Gordon may be my all-time favorite tv drama writer, whose resume includes "24", "Buffy", and "Beauty and the Beast".
Glen Morgan and James Wong haven't quite had Howard Gordon's luck, but they did do the short-lived "Space: Above and Beyond", which has been credited as creatively influencing the new "Battlestar Galactica". And it's the belief of many X-philes that the episodes Morgan and Wong scripted were the best of the series.
Gordon, Morgan, and Wong all left after the fourth season, and although the fifth season was good, "X-files" was not the same after their involvement in the series ended. I think they were the lifeforce behind it, and I think they kept Chris Carter's wild imagination in check. And the three were NOT involved with the first movie, which was a muddled mess. I am hoping that the new movie turns out well, but I'm not holding my breath.

I'd be really surprised if there's any movement now. Sure the actors may be tied in but is Chris Carter's lawsuit with Fox over? As a true fan of the show who watched it to the very horrible end I'm not getting my hopes up.

The time for an X-Files supernatural horror film has passed. Right now, it has all the appeal of a "special episode" of the WB SUPERNATURAL show.
What would the characters Scully and Mulder bring to a mystery that's horror related?

My problem with the show is it had many promises and no deliveries.

I think it's a mistake if they go for a UFO conspiracy angle in the sequel. The general public sees The X-Files as that, and not some horror flick. (We have enough of those already.) The best approach would be to make an in-direct sequel to the events of the first movie. It should play out with more action -- imagine a UFO conspiracy version of a Tom Clancy style thriller, where Mulder is like Jack Ryan.
Behind the scenes, the real hang-up may also be that Fox and Chris Carter aren't getting along. It seems, based on how things ended with the series, that 20th Century Fox (which is the separate movie division, and not directly obligated to the FOX network) doesn't want to work with Carter. News Corp owns The X-Files, but there is probably something in contracts which prevents them from going forward with a movie without Carter at the helm. Ideally, they should pay Carter off, and hire James Wong and Glen Morgan's production company to produce.

Er, that should read: "I think it's a mistake if they DON'T go for a UFO conspiracy angle".

I think I'll always be an x-phile & liked most of the series. Although, it did seem to lose something when Morgan & Wong left, like it was just off-base. I, too, believe it had too many promises & not enough delivery. I always loved the chemistry between Scully & Mulder, & it would be cool to see them together again. However, I would worry about the ability of the plot to hold my attention or anyone's for that matter. I don't think a "standalone supernatural horror" would be they way to go with the next film. They should really just answer all questions & give it closure, end the world or live happily ever after or whatever. That's what we all want, right?

The mystery in this movie will evolve around Scully's new English accent.

Mulder and Scully need to be reunited to seek out Alien lifeforms, but not as FBI agents-- use another agency like Homeland Security. They should be married this time so that the movie and subsequent series can get steamy. Of course, both original actor/actress needs to be in the movie/series.

I loved X-Files, obsessively taped them, salivated over Mulder, worshipped Scully, but ultimately become bored s**less over the alien conspiracy theme. I would dearly love to see a supernatural horror X-Files movie (especially with Morgan and Wong, who had some of the best episodes) - if they would throw in some of the humor that they could be so good at, all the better. And some steaminess would be just fabulous as well :)

OMG XFILES 2 WOULD BE AMAZING!!! ive been waiting SO long for them to make this movie! i miss mulder and scully everyday and i can't wait to see them again! i wish the movie would take place where the show left off because i wouldnt like to miss any of mulder and scullys lives. i like watching their relationship evolve. its one of the most beautiful aspects of the show and i think that by setting the new movie (cuz there IS going to be one) in present day and making mulder and scully married or something would b leaving out a HUGE and IMPORTANT developement in their relationship that i def dont wanna miss! however, no matter what the time period is or what happens in story, nothing is going to stop me from seeing this new movie like everyday of my life (lol) and buying tons of merchandise! ive written several letters to Create the Future which will b sent to Fox sometime either this spring or this summer and i think allllll xfiles fans who truely miss mulder and scully in their lives, like i do (even tho i watch the reruns everyday because i own the whole series twice), should do the same and write letters! Fox needs to kno that this second x-files project is NOT just a waste of their time and money, and that there are sooooo many fans still out there! LETS GO X-FILES 2!!!

I can't wait to see another X-files movie, gotta say it better be good, been waiting so long to see it, people are getting tired of waiting. The character in the story might lose that chraisma and character might be getting too old if they wait any longer (no offense). Feeling disppointed that their not going to stick to the story line. I think they should continued on with the last episode that Scully and Mulder were on the run. I think it was weird that they let the baby go as they did. I think it would be interesting to them to search for the baby, since it was so special and would help save the world. Making a horror movie would be like another other episode from the past and we have plenty of those. How times can they come up with something new that they already have from the old episodes? People are not looking for that kind of movie anymore, it would take away form the relationship between Scully and Mulder. Than again it's unexpected and it could make the X-Files more interesting by having a lot of suspense and not just a horror film about aliens. The last episode I thinked rocked and should continue within the story line. I hope the other agents (already forgot their names) aren't going to be in the movie too much either, I think that could hurt the movie. The last couple of seasons were so boring, it was all about them and they don't fit in with the story. I think it would be cool if Gillian and David influence on the script or story too. They wrote some of the most interesting episode, that it made fans more addicted to the show. Long Live X-Files!

Just heard that Gillian Anderson doesn't want to play Scully, so as far as I'm concerned, WHO CARES? Julianne Moore is being considered to play the role instead. OK, I've already seen the movie Evolution and it SUCKED! Might as well get Jake Gyllenhaal to play Mulder. Sorry Chris Carter, looks like you waited too long to take a vacation from surfing to bring my beloved X-Files back from the dead.

OK, first off about Gillian's "new" English accent.....it's not new. if anything would be new it's the American accent. she lived in London from 2 years old until she was 12. so the english accent is her first accent. she was made fun of for her accent in school when they moved back to the states. so she developed an American one to fit in. and the story going around about her not wanting to do the X-Files is a lie. this is from her website in her own words...... as far as the X-F movie? I have no f****** clue. I think there's still a law suit, as far as I know the script has not been written, and as much as we all want it to take place as soon as possible, AND YES THAT INCLUDES ME, AND ALWAYS HAS, SO STOP WITH THE NONSENSE! It is out of my hands. Completely. Write to Fox guys, tell them to make it happen!
if you want to read it for yourself from her website here's the addy....

I can't wait for the movie! I'm very excited to have Mulder and Scully back in action!
