If you have not seen Sunday night's kickass season finale, STOP READING NOW. (But come back after you see it, because you will have questions)*MAJOR SPOILERS*
Battlestar Galactica executive producer Ron Moore answered a few questions from a reporter at Pittsburgh's Post-Gazette that clear up some of the confusion from last night. For instance? Yes, they are Cylons. Chief, Saul, Sam and Tori heard the music when they reached a certain point in space, signaling their awareness of who they are. Moore says, "These are four of the final five, which puts them in a separate category from everybody else." Who is Cylon #5? Moore doesn't say. But he does promise that, next season, we'll get to discover the backstory for the new Cylons as they try to figure out how this could happen.
While he does clear up the Are-They-or-Aren't-They mystery, he doesn't say anything revealing about Starbuck's return. Is she a hallucination? A Cylon? Moore says, "It's exactly the kind of thing I want people to chew over the next few months" ("Few"?!? Season 4 doesn't start 'til January!). Katee Sackhoff, who plays Starbuck, is signed on for the next season.
He also reveals quite a bit about why Roslin's cancer has returned. It is, he says, to fulfill the prophecy that "a dying leader" will get them near the promised land but will not survive to see it herself. Why does Roslin communicate with the other Cylons through visions? No answer there.
That's all we learn about the finale.
As for the movie that's coming out in the fall, Moore describes it as "just a couple of extra episodes for the fourth season that will air earlier than the rest of the season." It is, he confirms, about the Pegasus and Admiral Cain. But, he says, it also sets up one storyline for the next season. "It's an opportunity to set up something for the fourth season that had not been told to the audience and that the characters themselves had not realized."

Hmm... I don't like it then. I'd either like it "are they or aren't they?" to be a question, as he says, to chew over between seasons, or for it to be made clear that yes, they are cylons.
Tyrol was the only one ready to leap to the cylon conclusion (which seemed natural, since he'd had some earlier "I'm a cylon" paranoia), but everyone else seemed confused, so I assumed I was intentionally left uncertain as well. It's possible I missed a hint or a clue here and there, but I'd say that they did a pretty poor job. The writers might've wanted to say "Yes, they are," but it came off as "They might be."

I'm glad he cleared up "are they or aren't they" confusion. It would be extremely disappointing if they didn't turn out to be cylons.

I find it interesting that Cavill (who is the keeper of cylon secrets) who has some idea about the final five was the one to originally convince Tyrol he wasn't a cylon.

Btw, how awesome is the fact that these 4 were the ones who led the resistance on New Caprica? (Except for maybe Tory). I think it's a big hint that these "cylons" are extremely different from the others.

Interesting that there are now TWO Human/Cylon Hybrids, or have we forgotten that the Chief had a baby too! So why is Athena's baby so goddamned important still?

Clearly, the 5th yet to be named Cylon is Henry Winkler.

I'm so glad he cleared that up. I knew we were supposed to get that answer last night and up until now I really didnt know what to believe. Now that he has confirmed it I feel as if I am hearing it for the first time. It's finally actually sunk in. Wow. Tigh/Chief/Tori/Anders are CYLONS. WOH! Thats HUGE.
As far as Roslin and the visions, I think she is very in tune with Hera because of the blood transfusion with Hera. Which I think she was also getting now maybe in small doses.
I think that these 4 new cylons (with Starbuck as the fifth in my opinion) are very different then the other cylons. They were probably the original cylons and maybe someone like Brother Cavil overthrew them and locked them away in storage.

Just to throw these out....
1. Why does everyone assume the Chief's baby is really his?
2. Maybe the Human/Cyclon hybrid is important from the Female perspective. Maybe the womans part of creating a new life was the part they were having problems with?
3. Why does Mexico look somewhat different in the visual of Earth?

Well they are different in that the mother is the cylon vs the father.

My question - when they found out Sharon was a Cylon, didn't they also test Chief? I must have been drunk when I imagined an episode when they tested his blood to see if he was a Cylon. He was in the slammer, if I recall. Whateva - I loved the ep, in spite of how it did or didn't compare to past seasons. I'm just enjoying the ride.

What a bitter pill it must be for Tigh. He was the most vehement cylon hater of all! All those colorful insults and genuine hatred toward his own people! I can't wait to see Adama's reaction when he finally knows!

Jesus. I don't know what sucks more... The facts presented in the article, or the fact that I'm sending this post in again, because when I posted it around 2:30 before I left for work, it didn't take.
I'm pissed that they are Cylons. Specifically pissed about Tigh and Tyrol. Could care less about Tori, though I think she's a bit more low profile than the rest of the group.
A couple of oddities that bother me. If these Cylons are "special" (I think that was Moore's word), isn't it kind of odd that they were all on the same ship? I mean, look at the numbers. 56 billion people in the colonies (taken from a Moore podcast, and it might be 51 or 52, but at that point, I'm pretty close). Drilling down a little more, and you have two people that were stationed on the ONE SHIP THAT SURVIVED prior to destruction of the colonies (And if Starbuck ends up being the fifth, even worse). Incredible odds, but not so much if you figure it was planned. But it wasn't... Was it? At least not by the Cylons that have been chasing after Galatica, trying to destroy it for 3 seasons. We know the Cylons have a plan, but it doesn't seem that its a very good one, does it? Nor does it seem so coordinated within the entire group.
So who planted the final five into society? Are their multiple copies? I doubt it, for one because they are "special." For two? Would anyone notice two Michael Jordans in the US? I mean, yeah, the one, but if I lived next door to his twin brother, I'd find it odd. As would if you lived next to/worked with/saw at a bar the guy that's a dead ringer for Samuel T. Anders, Pyramid Player Extrodinaire. But all four managed to survive the holcaust. Nice odds.
I don't know where this story is going, but I trust Moore to make more sense of it than I can.

Well, Hera is still the *first* human/cylon hybrid, as opposed to Tyrol's son, who was born later. Perhaps the final five don't have a problem reproducing like the other seven models.

Well Dorv that fact that they all survive could be chalked up to faith and destiny, no?
Or maybe somewhere deep inside (subconscious?) they knew of the attack and just found a way to survive.
With that piece of information confirmed though, it really does open up a lot of interesting stories for next season. Can't wait...

Im with you on the whole "how the hell can any of the final 5 beat the odds and survive?" on that Dorv.
In fact, since we found all 7 skin jobs I was praying we never would see the other 5 as models hidden within the fleet.
I do feel that the four music listeners are not cylons in any kind of traditional sense. I feel they are more the bridge that ties them, the final five and the temple of 5 together.

It's a very good sci-fi show and I am thankful the Sci-fi channel picked it up for 22 more episodes.
Does the 2 episodes to be shown in the fall of 2007 and released on DVD count towards the 22 episodes? Or are they counted seperate?
