According to this report in the NY Daily News, the average household gets more than 100 television channels. Even with all the choices, viewers pretty much stick to about 15 channels. Obviously, that grouping of channels varies by viewer. I'd be interested to know what the most popular channel on television is and what is least popular (probably cable access or C-SPAN).That number actually sounds about right to me, although I would say my range is more like 20 channels. I've listed my Top 15 below, in order of most-watched... what are your top channels?
NBC
Comedy Central
CBS
ABC
FOX
F/X
HGTV
TLC
Discovery
Sci Fi
MSNBC (for Olbermann)
TBS (for reruns when I'm bored)
TNT (for movies when I'm too lazy to put in a DVD)
Cartoon Network
E! (for The Soup)

Not quite fifteen, but those are the ones we watch regularly. And we log more SciFi hours than any other network. We're a geek family - what can I say?

There's my 15 in no particular order. Some of those are basically only on the list because of 1 show. WGN for instance, it's only there for the hour of Scrubs every night.

12 is all I can come up with and most of those on the list only get about 1-2 hours a week at most from us.

Toward the end these channels really are rarely watched.
Now the real question, can you guess my demographic based on this list?

hmm, 12. I'm sure there's others that I stop on occasionally when I'm flipping through, but those are the main ones.

17! I couldn't get it down to 15. We have all of the movie channels that we'll watch if something is on. My wife probably could not survive without Food Network. There are also couple of other channels that we watch only one show for but I think that is the main 17. I would love for the satellite and cable providers to offer an a la carte service and only pay for what I watch. That way I would know that the money I spend each month would go to the channels that I watch and maybe good shows wouldn't get canceled and what I consider bad tv would go away. Since most of our tv watching is on the major networks which is free I could see myself saving tons of money. I could easily survive without the 9 shopping channels, all of the religious networks, c-spans, and an endless list of channels that I have already removed from my guide.
