I'm in denial even as I write this. Ausiello over at TV Guide has a scoop that appears to be about How I Met Your Mother, although he's not naming names just yet. He says the comedy may not be renewed because some stuffed suit over at CBS doesn't get it. Or, to quote Ausiello directly, the bigwig thinks HIMYM "is about as funny as a root canal." (What?!? You have to be dead if you don't find Barney funny) I wonder if this is the same decision-maker who keeps renewing The Unit? Why do I suspect it's HIMYM? Because Ausiello gives a big hint, saying that the show in question was passed over for a major promotion earlier this season. That sounds an awful lot like how HIMYM got screwed out of the post-Super Bowl slot, doesn't it? Plus, there hasn't been any official word about a renewal for HIMYM so even if I'm wrong, it wouldn't hurt to send some support to the show.
Fans, it may be time for a rally. CBS has a feedback button on the bottom of its homepage where you can flood the network with love for Ted, Robin, Lily, Marshall and Barney.
*UPDATE: Here's the online petition. (Thanks, e!)
[Thanks for the tip, Steven!]

I hope this is wrong, this one of the few show my friends and I laugh out loud at. It's simple brilliance.

If the show doesn't get renewed, it won't be because some CBS suit doesn't think it's funny; it will be because the ratings aren't very good this season (and weren't last season either).
HIMYM one of my favorite shows on TV, but this week's episode scored only a 5.0/8 and finished fourth in its time slot. Not good.
(The Office is sort of the same story, but it gets better buzz and NBC has fewer options because of its weaker lineup.)

Don't believe everything you hear. Especially, when you hear rumors that sound as preposterous as this one.
They're not going to get rid of a show because some CBS executive doesn't understand/like it. If that were the case, Lost and a handful of other shows would've probably been cancelled by now. It's always about the ratings. This show may be falling in the ratings or at least showing an overall trend that heads in a downward direction. Please use common sense!

There's already a petition to save it (started yesterday after the blind item from Ausiello):

Why Oh Why?? There are show on this network that are worst,(CHRISTINE). I feel in love with H.I.M.Y.M the first time I saw it. This show is great, it is funny, has great writing, has an AWESOME cast, a million running jokes, plus lots more.
After Arrested was canned I boycotted FOX and still only watch one show on that network. Now I am going to have to do the same to CBS if they do this. Which makes me sad, I watch 5 or 6 of their programs.
The Unit is not a bad show it just has to drop the wife angle and it would be AWESOME.

I agree that ratings definitely play a role, but if there's no love for a show from the top, it is in trouble. Plus, remember what happened to Norm MacDonald? Those humorless execs have power.

They had better not cancel HIMYM it is one of my favourites and would leave me pretty much only watching NBC. There are already so many classic episodes like Slap Bet and Swarley. And Marshal still has 3 slaps left.

Thanks for the link, I just filled out a feedback complaint to urge them to keep the show on the air. This is one of the only CBS shows I watch on a regular basic and would be a damn shame to axe it.

must keep HIMYM
Note to Anna Johns, thanks for the dumbass comment about the Unit, one of the best shows out there that TVSquad continues to ignore. Maybe if you actually WATCHED that show, you'd be entitled to form a respectable opinion.
Guess it's too patriotic for you understand. Easier to blame America first in these pc times than love your country.

The only thing better than cable networks eating the majors' lunch is those same majors committing slow-motion sepuku and saving everyone else the trouble.

I've started a blog to urge a letter writing campaign. While I do think the E! poll might have an impact, I'm just dubious about the impact of petitions. Can't hurt, though, and they always get play in media write-ups so sign away. Still, writing to the CBS execs AND local affiliates seems to me the best course of action for now. Stay positive with them, though. Threats of boycotts might not be the most effective action. Just tell them how much you love the show and how you're looking forward to enjoying it for years to come.

They better keep this show on the air - it's is one of the best and funniest on TV today! If CBS cancels it, they better fire they entire board of directors because they have no idea what they are doing!

Thanks for insulting fans of The Unit for absolutely no frigging reason, by the way. Really appreciate that.
Oh wait, no I don't.

maybe so Sam G, but it's a build up of frustration with TVS.
It's insulting to read reviews by people who don't really follow a particular show. It's even worse to be ignored by Bob S. and the rest of the TVS crew when volunteering to do reviews of the Unit.
It's amazing that TVS continues to ignore the Unit. Worse when they decide to insult it and with it, the people who watch and enjoy it.

that's right folks, if you don't watch the unit, then you aren't a patriot, and the terrorist will have won.
