FOX has officially announced today that Prison Break would be back for a third season. But many sources say that the show will get a major overhaul, including a possible change in the show's title. The FOX's press release announcing the renewal gives nothing about what Season 3 may hold. But series creator Paul T. Scheuring has been giving many hints, including at least one that may have fans shake on their seat hoping that the creator changes his mind.
No matter what, Prison Break was never intended to be a long-running series. At first, people behind the show though it could last three seasons being laid out as follows: Season 1 = in prison, Season 2 = on the run, Season 3 = back in prison; but that the best plan was surely only two season. However good ratings have made FOX order a third season. With how they mapped the second season, which includes wrapping up most (if not all) of the storylines, Prison Break needs to reinvent itself and here is how they plan to do it.
(Warning! Spoilers about season 3 coming up!)
Variety reports that Season 3 will see the addition of at least four new cast members. These new faces will be two men and two women, none of which American. This could mean that Michael will be stuck in Panama for a while? Speaking of him, The Hollywood Reporter adds that one of the brothers (Michael or Lincoln) may leave the show during the Fall. It is unknown if they plan to kill one of them or have that person vanish in thin air. No matter, the brothers have been the core of the show since the pilot. Could the series survive without one of them? Considering that Sara will be back, does it mean that Lincoln would more than likely be the one heading out? Because how can Sara be in the show with Lincoln? They don't get along that much.
TV Guide's interview with Paul T. Scheuring reveals that Sara will be missing for a few of the early episodes since the actress will be on maternity leave. However, Sara will not be pregnant on the show. The show will still be produced in Dallas but scenes will also be shot in Florida and Louisiana. Scheuring adds that more than half of the current cast will be back.
BuddyTV reports that a love interest for one of the current cast will be introduced next season. The article lists comments from Scheuring saying that "The only thing I will say at this stage is that it will be a much more stripped-down, brutal, violent version of the show than we've seen in the past."
Many rumors say that the show will come back with a new name since the "prison break" has occurred in Season 1. However, some reports say that Lincoln may be the one trying to break Michael out of a bad situation (maybe he'll be behind bars in Panama?) so could the title still work? Can the show survive a title change as it may have people think that Prison Break was cancelled or have writers forget what Prison Break was all about and change the format to go along with the new title?
No matter, I will still watch the show even if it has a new title as long as it doesn't forget about the show's central theme: the bond and story of two brothers.

I love going back to spoilers and see how accurate they were or not. I must say that March 21 (the day this post was published) is way too early to get mostly accurate spoilers as new episodes have not been written yet. These were mostly ideas the writers thought of, etc. Nothing was 100% set in stone.

I'm still a fan of "Prison Break," but there's no denying that it's lost a huge amount of momentum since season 1. They're out of prison, the "conspiracy" has lost any of the interest it may have once held, the Michael/Sara romance has fizzled out, and none of the characters ever do anything surprising anymore.
The only way a third season would work would be to start the plot line virtually from scratch, with a whole new impossible-seeming objective for the main characters to aim for. Otherwise, they may as well not bother.

Didn't they have a similar idea last year? I thought there had been plans to call season two "Prison Break:Manhunt" or something like that.

Douglin: Yes, last year they did ponder a tiny change in the title by adding "Manhunt" or "Fugitive" or something of the like after "Prison Break:". But this time, it seems that they want something new, without the "Prison Break" part... although if they want viewers to tune in and know that the show IS "Prison Break," they should probably keep "Prison Break:" and add something after. Then, if they get a 4th season, they could drop the PB part from the title and just keep what's after the :.
A bit like NCIS did. At first it was titled "Navy NCIS" so that people would clearly know if involves the Navy in some capacity. And when they though fans knew what the show was about, they dropped the "Navy" part as it was redundant with the N in NCIS.

I realized several weeks ago that Linc was a goner. Last weeks episode verified it. Why not leave the PB name and have Michael hired by some elite company to "break" other innocents out of prison? With Mahone as a well-drugged sidekick?

P.S. I don't know what's going on with the commenting system here, but these comments were in a completely different order half an hour ago, and were left at completely different times than they're showing now.

I am still loving it..They do need to refresh the challenge of the story a little...I have always looked at the show as a live action comic book where you throw out all reality.

I think Michael will be hired by the US government ...maybe the FBI or the CIA and work special cases once everything is settled. That internal affairs dude will break everything wide open and exoneration Lincoln and Michael.

I dont know about you guys, but the first season was all about the tatoos, not the brother relationship.
since the tatoos has been "nerfed" the whole serie is being dumb down.

Sy, I like your idea of Michael becoming an agent of the government after being exonerated through the efforts of the FBI Internal Affairs guy. He could run professional scams on bad guys, break agents out of foreign prisons, oh and even save Sarah.
Hmm, maybe they could call season 3 "Saving Sarah". Nah, that's a sucky title. Makes it sound more like a chick flick.

prisonbreak is one of the most unique shows to ever come out.the creator is a genius. i could never get tired of it. that's why it's a hit.i heard from a little bird season 3 will be even better than its previous season and the love interest will be a woman for none other than our beloved micheal scofield. so surreal but true.i heard from a reliable source how part of season 3 will turn out.sara will be taken into protective custody.linc and michael will argue over going back to l.j and jane or finding sara and agree to seperate.linc reunites with l.j. and jane.michael starts having panic attacks and it affects his heart. he has a lawyer friend that helps him get in contact with sara.lawyer friend tells him she is in protective custody in ohio.lawyer friend arranges for michael to get to panama. michael reunites with linc and l.j..they are relocating to vancouver but he can't follow them because sara gets code and plans to meet michael in panama. too late to change the message. the f.b.i. finds out about lawyer friend and sara's escape plan. she is now in the fbi's custody and lawyer friend is killed by an agent like mahone.michael gets panic attacks anxiously waiting for sara in panama. he realises something happens but he passes out. he becomes ill and ends up in panama hospital then gets in prison. he gets amnesia but keeps having nightmare about linc and a beautiful redhead. now part of his past and he can't put the pieces together. the priest of prison likes him and gives him the name diego and arranges for him to work in the catholic church at the prison then the priest has a neice with e.s.p.(extra sensory perception) he wants her to help diego(michael) get his memory back. she falls in love with diego(michael) and senses a woman in his past and manipulates things to favor her. she sleeps with michael gets pregnant but on his own he remembers everything and plans to look for sara and linc.she threatens him with emotional blackmail and tells him if he leaves she will turn him in and use the $100,000 to take care of her unborn child. other sides to the story but i know ines the priest's niece will be the new female character

I'd be fine if the show ended this season because I'm not planing on tuning in season three after watching basically the same plot in each episodes for the past two seasons: they're almost caught, the cops figure out Michael's trick, Michael think of a new plan, they escape and then whole circle begin again in next episode. also, Wentworth Miller really isn't strong enough of an actor to lead a show, I was fine with him in the first season, but not so much now.

Prison, then on the run then back to prison. Prison Break could have been an all time and end it when they should end it. But of course they have to milk it and potentially destroy it altogether. Its never quantity for a great story, its the quality. i'm typin this from ireland as i just got the news of another season and i think it is the best story that has came out of the states for so long. They better not mess it up, otherwise its just gonna be another re-ran load of crap milking every possible rating they can. It should have ended after season two. We'll just have to wait and see!

Why bother with a third season? The story is pretty much over at this point. Let them get away from the States and live happily ever after. Enough already!

Maybe it will be breaking Sara out of Prison for the third season. I hope this is a red herring and the show ends. I keep watching it but hating it at the same time. Its like my addiction to Footballers Wivez.
