Hijacked airs tonight on PBS, plus other documentaries in April

planeHere's a few shows coming down the pike from PBS and National Geographic:

Tonight at 9 p.m. (but check listings) on PBS, "Hijacked" will be shown on American Experience. The film tells the story of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine whose members hijacked four commercial aircraft and commandeered a fifth in 1970 to attract attention to their cause. Six hundred people were taken hostage, four planes were blown up, but no one was killed. The documentary will explore both the parallels and differences between terrorism then and now.

In April, the National Geographic is getting all religious and stuff with a number of shows about the origins and mysterious of Christianity:

  • Explorer: Secret Lives of Jesus (April 4 at 8:00 p.m.)
  • Knights Templar (April 4 at 9:00 p.m.)
  • King Solomon's Tablet (April 4 at 10:00 p.m.)
  • Exodus Revealed (April 5 at 8:00 p.m.)
  • Doomsday: Book of Revelation (April 5 at 9:00 p.m.)
  • Unlocking Da Vinci's Code (April 5 at 10:00 p.m.)
  • Jesus: The Man (April 6 at 8:00 p.m.)
  • Secrets of Jerusalem's Holiest Sites (April 6 at 9:00 p.m.)
  • The Real Mary Magdalene (April 6 at 10:00 p.m.)

Also in April, look for the American Experience / Frontline special "The Mormons," a two-part series about the history and current politics of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The series will debut April 30 and conclude May 1. Both parts will air at 9:00 p.m.

Before "The Mormons," you can catch yet another American Experience documentary, "Jonestown: The Life and Death of Peoples Temple" on April 9 at 9:00 p.m. The documentary tells the story of the Reverend Jim Jones, the leader of the Peoples Temple and the orchestrator of the largest mass murder-suicide in American history, and includes interviews with people who lived through the ordeal.
