Evangeline Lilly's acting career may have started with commercials, but the Lost star took on other personalities long before then. In an interview with Australia's Courier-Mail, the actress mentions that she moved six times in a three-year period, taking on a different persona each time. After her high school graduation, Lilly traveled all over British Columbia and found herself by "trying out" other personalities. This experience has probably come in handy in her portrayal of Kate, a fugitive who took on various identities to escape arrest.
Other interesting details from the interview:
-
Lilly aspires to be a writer someday.
-
The actress cites commercial work as "the most degrading work I've ever done," even when compared with her experiences as a waitress, flight attendant, and mechanic.
-
Lilly also worked as an extra while attending college.
-
The police had to prevent paparazzi from "scavenging" at the site of her house fire.
-
As always, the actress would neither confirm nor deny the rumors that she and Dominic Monaghan are engaged.

Ha. I remember when Lost first came on thinking "hey! That's the girl from those dating hotline commercials."
Commercial work is bad, especially that kind. But it does pay the bills...

Her acting WHAT???
Check IMDB. Most of her entries are award shows and talk shows where she plays "herself." The few actual acting jobs are as someone's girlfriend or as an "extra." There is a reason she hasn't been offered other film or TV work since Lost started -- she can't act.

no film work during break = can't act?? What??
There is no evidence that supports this idea to be valid. She was just nominated for Best Actress, so it seems the people in her profession think that she can act very well, only 5 people were honored with nominations out of hundreds of talented woman. Some people enjoy their time off from work, it doesn't make them bad at their jobs. It does make you appear to be jealous.
