The boys didn't do too well with the music of Diana Ross on this week's Idol. Perhaps, next week they'll do better when they sing hit songs from the 1960s British pop invasion. Special guests Lulu and Peter Noone will prepare the remaining 11 contestants for Tuesday's show (March 20) and then perform live on Wednesday (March 21). Lulu is scheduled to sing "To Sir With Love," while Noone will sing "There's a Kind of Hush."
Peter Noone (whom I really want to call "Herman") writes about his upcoming guest appearance on his blog, saying "I am getting excited about my coaching job on American Idol. I get to hang with my really good friend Lulu who was my teenage heartthrob and we once had a date."
Peter says he likes Simon, "the one with the accent," best. But he also likes Ryan, because he is "fresh" and "clean." For more, go to Peter's blog.
I wonder if the guys, like Blake or Chris Sligh, will have better luck this week trying to put their modern, hipper spins on pop music from the 1960s. Or will they shy away from doing anything original after being slammed by the judges for tampering with classic Motown?
At least the contestants can choose from a number of British Invasion artists. Let's hope this week they choose their songs wisely.

Oh please oh please oh please let someone sing "I'm Henry the Eighth I Am"! Just so Simon can say "Listening to you sing I'm Henry the Eighth I Am made me want to cut off my own head so I wouldn't have to hear any more."

This is why American Idol loses the interest of any self-respecting music fan - why does the AMERICAN Idol have to do 60's Brit Pop?
Shouldn't they be focusing on more contemporary American Pop that closely reflects the talents and skill level required to sell CDs when the winner is everntually picked?
And why these two Brit losers? They are so old and out of date, I can only ask, WHY? And like I said, they are not even American!

Well, I don't see a problem. Quite a lot of the songs were #1 on the American charts. Do you have anything against The Beatles or Rolling Stones? I don't!

I like the theme weeks, songs and mentors. I think IT IS the "older" music performances that are very telling when it comes to the really good and the really bad singers.
I am from the old school and today's music is crap!! That is why I enjoy the show, but don't buy hardly any albums.
If anyone can get through the weekly old time stuff which actually WAS GREAT MUSIC, then they sure will be able to scream all they want in some studio booth with all the computer enhancements and sound decent. That is all music is today anyway!
I CD's I own from AI are Season 2 Group Album, Clay Aiken's "Measure Of A Man", Carrie Underwood's "Somehearts" and Kellie Pickler's "Small Town Girl". I do like country so I am also going to get Bucky's when it comes out next month, I LOVE his new single, "A Different World". I have on pre order, ELLIOTT YAMIN's album, he is the best of the best! From past idols I will buy albums by Jessica Sierra and Lindsey Cardinale and probably Anwar Robinson when they come out.
So far this year, I dunno! Not my favorite year. I liked Season 2 and I loved Season 4!!
One of the best performance on AI was Jessica Sierra's "Total Eclipse of the Heart", we know that song is cleared. I would like to hear ANYONE try to top Jessica's performace!!! I dare them!!!

Well, being a British Ex-pat living in the USA, I am really looking forward to tonights AI. Lulu and Peter were both great singers in their day, and I still think Lulu in particular still is!
Lets hope the contestants pick some great songs - trouble is there are so many to choose from....

After watching Tuesday night's episode, all I know is Ryan Seacrest is annoying. He really overestimates his value to the show. He is the host, not a judge, and I don't care at all what he thinks about the competition. And let's not even get into his squabbles with Simon, they aren't even interesting when Simon out quips him every time. You'd think he'd learn to keep his trap shut by now.
