I'm a big fan of Rome and other historically based show and movies. I might have to get Showtime just so I can watch The Tudors.

With Rome almost done I do need something to fill that gap and as a huge fan of historical pieces, I concur this looks excellent. Still not 100% sure about JRM cast as Henry VIII (just doesn't meet the physical stature) but I am willing to give him a try since he is a decent actor.

Plus it's got Sam Neill who can do no wrong.

And I'm hardly into the first episode and the king is having sex with a "woman". I but it in quotes because in order for this to be pornish, even softcore, she needs bigger boobs.

Well David, Henry VII is such a well known historical figure with such unique physical attributes I am a little put off by not getting someone to fill that part of the role. But as I said, JRM is a good actor so I am willing to give it a try.

And that comment about breasts? That quite possibly is one of the most sexist ignorant things I have ever read here at TVSquad.

I think everyone forgets that Henry wasn't always the old Porker we see in the portraits, in fact he was, a very athletic youth and considered very handsome.

The last one was him when he was married to Anne Boleyn.

They first two are by unknown artists so may not be the best impressions.

So, he's no JRM perhaps but he was, for his day, quite studly.

Angela, I know he wasn't always the "old porker" most people know, but he was a HUGE man. Based on measurements for armor that still exist today he was around 6'3" with a 42" chest and 35" waist. JRM hardly fits that stature.

Sorry Akbar, wasn't a personal dig at anyone. He was a big man, just pointing out he wasn't always the big fat man we normally see in what is apparently the only painting approved for public viewing. Ok, that's just my opinion :)

And on Rome Ceasar had a dark black beard, not a lighter black / grey beard. *rolleyes*

It's a TV show not a special on the history of his youth.
