On Stargate SG-1, actor Michael Shanks plays Dr. Daniel Jackson, who the Sci Fi channel's web site describes as an "anthropologist, linguist and expert in ancient and current cultures."
Maybe those skills will come in handy when he joins that cast of 24.
Michael Shanks Online, as well as a Stargate fan web site, are reporting that Shanks is joining 24 in a "recurring role" and is filming scenes this week.
No word on whether he'll be able to apply Dr. Jackson's linguistic and cultural expertise to help Chloe O'Brian with her social awkwardness issues.

Considering they're up to filming episode 20, 21 right now, he could very well be the Big (White) Bad for the season, joining the likes of Drazen, Logan and the like.
But that's just me speculating.

Akbar,
It's easy! :o)
Actually, I don't hate him so much as I'm annoyed that he left, got replaced by a character I liked better, then changed his mind and Nemec got the shaft.
Okay, maybe I hate him a little...

I too loved Jonas but I have loved Daniel's arc after he came back so I am torn.
Still a little pissed Corin didn't get written into Atlantis. He wouldn't even need to have been a regular on Shep's team, but he would have been a great supporting character.

I'm 100% with you there. I have to admit I've enjoyed Daniel's story since his return, but still have that bad taste in my mouth about the way Nemec was just tossed aside. I think most Stargate fans wondered, if only a little bit, why the character of Jonas wasn't brought to the Atlantis series. With all the recent character shake-ups on that show I still thought somehow he might get a shot, but I guess it just isn't going to happen.

Daniel had a story arch after he came back?!
Season 6 was a wonderful season and Daniel storyline was great. He left the show because he thought he was God and didn't like his storyline, fine. But he comes back after he realised that he can't get another major job. He storyline went nowhere since he has returned excepted he "died" a few more times.
Plus on interviews he just seems so stuck up and asshole like.

But he HAD a major role... on SUMURU! *chuckle* God that movie was ridiculous :-)
I don't know I think you shouldn't judge people by how they behave during interviews. Considering he is a friend of Christopher Judge I think he cannot be that much of an ass. Judge is just to nice of a guy to be friends with a moron. I guess you always have to take into account that people put on their game face in public trying to show their best side or what they think it should look like.
But I think of all the SG-1 characters I have to agree he is the least likable.
Anyway, I loved the Corin Nemec storyline too and thought it was a very nice gesture for them to let him get his self-written show into a later season. That was a really nice episode and overall the Jonas Quinn character is very much loved by all fans. I think the lack of further investigation into the dephs of his past and his mind body and soul always make the fans angry. He really had potential and compared to 9.5 seasons of Danial Jackson one can easily get a little bit angry for him to come back to the show.
And to those who cannot remember what the Daniel storyline was I have one word - Anubis (and maybe a few additional words: if you cannot remember the Daniel Storyline after he de-cended then you cannot be that much of a fan. The scene where Daniel tries to push anubis in the Mothership control rom with his glowing hands and the swarm of yellow glowing particles flowing towards Anubis to then being reflected was part of the opening sequence of subsequent seasons - I think it was at least the whole eight season. So shame on you for not remembering that neato storyline).
Oh and a final w00t! For Michael Shanks getting a role on 24. Way to go Dude :-)

Jonus was supposed to be in Atlantis but because there was a 7th season and because asshole Daniel had to come back they "needed" to write Jonus's charater off the show sooner. I don't understand why Jonus couldn't be part of a 5 man team, or even a reoccuring charater that was said to be on SG-2.
Now Jonus is dead so it doesn't really matter.

Great for Shanks, unfortunately the dialogue on 24 is a step down from SG-1.

I think I remember a comment about the Ori destroying Jonas' planet at some point but I could totally be wrong on that. If it is true it is safe to assume Jonas is dead.

Akbar, I'm sure you've watched enough scifi to know that just because a character dies, or has his entire planet destroyed, he's not necessarily gone for good, especially on a Stargate series.
The only way to really kill a character on a scifi series is if the actor wants more money than the producers are willing to pay.
:o)

No body, no death! In fact I have been thinking about getting that translated into latin and tattooed on my shoulder ;)
I also believe in the NB,ND scenario so much which is why I look forward to the triumphant return of Jonas, in the 3rd series: STARGATE: JONAS-SUPER ORI KILLER ARCHAEOLOGIST LINGUIST EXTRAORDINARE! (this time with a better haircut than the last time we saw him) along with Narim his nebbish sidekick and Urgo as the comic relief.
