Many were shocked when Sanjaya advanced to the Top 12, while Sundance was sent packing last week. But apparently no one was more shocked than Simon Cowell, who said he'll quit the show, if Sanjaya is crowned the next American Idol. Simon warned, "He's not going to win. I won't be back if he does!"
Last night, Sanjaya gave another monotone performance, droning out "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" while sporting Justin Guarini's bouncy hair. Simon snarked, "When you hear a wail in Beverly Hills, that is where Diana Ross is watching this show."
Unfortunately, the meaner Simon is, the more devoted Sanjaya's fans (or "Fanjayas" as I've heard them called) seem to become. According to dialidol.com, Sanjaya is most likely safe again this week.
As for Simon quitting Idol, I'm sure that won't be necessary. Odds are that Sanj won't go all the way to win this thing. If he does, millions of people will be outraged that popularity trumped talent in what is supposed to be a "singing competition." Luckily for Idol, the surrounding controversy would only pump up the ratings higher -- especially on the night that Simon hands in his resignation.

Is it really "popularity" that's keeping him around or is it this movement to vote for the worst? Even Howard Stern jumped on the vote for the worst bandwagon now because apparently there's just nobody that great this season.

If Simon thinks he's so terrible, then why did he put him through in the first place? Isn't that the point of the tryouts and Hollywood, to weed out the people who would embarrass Simon to the point of leaving the show if they were to win?

Vote for the Worst has had no hand in keeping Sanjaya on the show so far since this is the first week they're throwing their support his way. Until now, they were backing Sundance and only switched to Sanjaya when Sundance was voted out.

Oh Simon, I think that Sanjaya will be LONG GONE before that! He'll be eliminated right away if the viewers can attest to last night's terrible performance. He's not anywhere near the other singers. But that's what some of the viewers like--a continuation of the bad auditions from January's shows to be seeped into the top 12. They feel that if former auditioner William Hung did well with his off key singing outside of Idol, so will Sanjaya. They don't like to see 12 very good singers in one setting. He's a good looking young man, but his singing needs serious work afterwards if he's removed. I'm sure he's not paying attention to the outrage and criticism he's gotten the past few weeks. His removal will avoid some embarrassment for the show.

It does beg the question, why did you have him in the top 24?
And on the AOL poll last night he was 4th to win it all, now he is 6th. People sicken me.

They seem like a pretty mediocre lot this season, but if all it takes to get rid of Simple Simon is a vote for Sanjaya,I'll vote for him. It's probably an empty promise anyway. I mean what's he gonna do, go back to living in his mommy's basement?

As far as I can see (hear) the only one worthy of winning is Melinda Dolittle with Lakita(I think I have spelled that correctly) a very close second. Not one guy is worth listening to.

I think Sanjaya doing the hula was the first time I almost vomited watching a TV show. He can't keep time, esp. in a fast song and he holds his notes too long. He screams "I am woman, hear me whispter".

Personally I like Simon. Most of these people(contestants) need a wake up call and he does that. Were he to leave the show wouldn't be worth watching.

And while we're at it, did anyone think it strange that Simon and Ryan went to Africa together? That's a lot of time in the air and in the same tent. I hope they had quality time together, they have to pretend to be distant and straight when they're on national TV

Sanjaya is flat out awful. There was at least a dozen singers that would of been better in the top 24. I don't get why anyone votes for him. He's one of the worst ever.

Sanjaya is not moving forward because of his popularity. He's moving forward because of his race. Plain and simple. He's annoying, physically repulsive, and not talented. His race is keeping him alive, much like Hawaiians voted en masse for Jasmine Tryas.
But the person above who said that Simon is at fault is damn right. The judges put this jerk in the final 12 in the first place. He should never have come that far. He is simply not good enough.

Has no one but me noticed Sanjaya's physical/personal resemblance to Michael Jackson? The thin body, the shyness, but certainly not the voice? I too believe his race is keeping him going. Surely every Indian with a cell phone is voting numerous times for him because no American in their right mind would waste a call on his weak performance. Stay with us, Simon, we need your stark, sometimes crude reality. Pobody's nerfect!

I agree with Simon, I will quit watching Idol if Sanjaya wins. He needs to go and should have been gone a long time ago. When sundance left last week I was shocked as he should have been at least in the top 6. Simon is good, sometimes a little harsh but usually very accurate. He judges as if it is a singing contest not personality.
