(S01E01) Obviously since I'm writing about this show, there's no hiding the fact that I watched it. On a Friday night. At 11 PM. Alone. Unfortunately my wife had no interest. Go figure.
I'll break down the premise to you quickly. There's a bunch of girls having sex with guys, each other and themselves. There's lots of nakedness, frolicking and furburgers. The end.
OK, maybe that wasn't all that fair; there weren't many furburgers.
Debbie Does Dallas ... Again is a reality show of sorts, where we're seeing the inner workings of what it takes to remake a "cult classic" pornography movie, Debbie Does Dallas. The auditions, the casting, the filming, and whatever else goes into the whole process.
I was actually once interested in checking out Family Business when it was on the air a few years back, but I never had the time and I think, back then, I didn't subscribe to Showtime. Debbie Does Dallas ... Again seems to be a step in the other direction of reality TV, closing in more of the competition factor rather than the sneak-peek into how the porn industry works. Think of Family Business as The Osbornes of port reality and DDDA as something like the Project Greenlight.
I never caught the original version of this -- hell I was six or seven years old when it first came out. Besides, my first glimpse at porn was some high school kid's porn stash hidden in a treehouse in the woods. The directors of this remake comes right out and admits the original was crap (well not those words, but pretty miuch), while at the same time he wants to preserve the feel of the original. Artistic integrity at its finest right there.
There was something completely creepy about seeing Vivid's Steven Hirsch's daughter's picture behind his desk. Can you imagine some of the meetings in that room? "So when you're in the locker room, we need you to let each of the five football players finish in your ... oh you like this picture of my daughter? How cute is she, huh? Apple of her father's eye, she is." Shiver.
So, is the show worth watching? If you're up for seeing the behind the scenes aspects of shooting porn scenes, including some safe-for-cable sex scenes (I don't think I need to spell that out) for a compact half-hour, sure it is. In other words, of course it is.

Not to beat a dead horse, but.... how in the hell did you write a longer and more detailed review about THIS pile of dog turds than your Prison Break review? Hell, you're only a few words shy of even your BSG reviews. Ugh, wow. Funnel some of that creative energy into fixing up the site, man... I haven't seen so many posts complaining about the site in.. well, ever. In fact, the only site around the NETWORK that has more bitching is Joystiq, and that's just because every "fanboy" has their own perception of how "biased" the site is. The difference? They're complaining about a false sense of "bias" where people around here are complaining about overall decline in quality. You're all about "constructive criticism" around here, apparently, unless it comes from readers. But here's some more, regardless. Go ahead and review Debbie Does Whoever The Hell She Wants, but for everyone's sake: up the overall quality of TVS. Please.

I have to second Tucker's complaints about the site.
If I recall correctly, wasn't there some promise late last year (or possibly very early this year) of a site overhaul? It's sorely needed, and dear God do we really need what looks like several hundred teeny links to the right? And then there's the all-too-often-needed, often-reminded-by-the-bloggers, very tiny "Corrections" link waaaaay down at the bottom.
Hell, I can find Waldo before I can find that. If this site were a car, it'd be up on blocks in the front of someone's trailer! :o)

Ummm I would like to remind those of you who are knocking this site, that you don't have to read it. If you think a site needs an over-haul keep it to yourself and find a new tv site to look at. Or start your own so people like you can come and crap on your hobby. Circle of life and all that

Yeah, I have to say, I agree with Tucker completely. I used to be an absolute dedicated visitor to this site daily. The reviews and entries used to have some value.
In the last at least 3-6 mos., it's gone to crap.
And Patrick, you are totally off too. People who do this stuff SHOULD be able to take a little constructive criticism. If you can't develop a hard shell for this stuff, that you shouldn't be doing it.
And it's not about finding another site, because there are plenty, it's about the high standard of quality tvsquad USED to have and how the majority of it has gone down the drain.
You may be right, I probably won't come back as often anymore or maybe not at all. And I'll tell everyone I know not to come back either. Word of mouth rules all.

I'm a quiet commenter around here, but I'll say the same thing about any of the blogs I visit: It's always the same people bitching and moaning about the site in question. And what's funny is you keep coming back! In fact, I'm near certain you're sitting there coming back to THIS VERY POST and are reading this, so again you're back! And now you feel compelled to comment again to defend yourself.
Do us all a favor and go away.

Gee Patrick and NDUO, this site is designed, albeit poorly, for comments. It's fine that you disagree. Lord knows I have plenty of disagreements here, but the "you don't have to read it" or "go away" comments could just as easily be turned toward yourselves.
If you don't like the comments we've made, you don't have to read them and you could easily go away. See how easy that was to just turn around back at you? It works both ways.
I'm sure there are plenty of readers/commenters who are no longer reading articles here and are quietly going away. Those of us who complain are still here hoping the site will improve rather than simply giving up on it. While you look at the complaints as completely negative, we actually hold out hope for improvement instead of just moving on.
Keith hasn't commented on it recently, but he did allude to an overhaul for the site layout a while back, but nothing more has been said or done in that regard. That doesn't speak to the quality of the content, but at least a new layout might make reading and commenting more pleasurable and nobody likes bitching in a comfortable enviroment than myself.
Really, given time your wishes may just come true. Even those of us sticking around to complain and sometimes even offer marginally constructive criticism in the ever-fading hope that the overall quality of this site will improve have our breaking points.

Really guys. If web development and TV show reviews are so easy, then go start your own. Im sure you're so good at it youll pull all the traffic from TV Squad within weeks, making zillions in ad revenue.
Keep it up TV squad. Theres plenty to like here.

It's not about "starting our own" or slipping quietly into the night. It's about pleading with people who some of us have grown to respect over the course of several YEARS and watching a site that we go to multiple times a day to stop the downward spiral that's occurred recently.
Go back through some of the old posts. You'll find that I've historically been one of the biggest TVS apologists out there. I used to look forward to visiting all the time to read insightful, witty, whatever posts. It's simply not that way around here anymore - I come hoping that it's the same old site (and occasionally it is, but as with all criticism, you're not going to find people lighting fireworks and jumping up and down when you do something right, unfortunately), but more often find myself shaking my head.
I'm not just some ass who came out of the woodwork a couple months ago who has nothing better to do than sit around and rag on a blog. I'm an extremely longtime and loyal fan who's looking to support a site that I have always enjoyed. I don't like to see it in this state, and if this is an overall indication of the "new direction," then I think a lot of us would like to know. Maybe it attracts new readers, but sadly I think it'll ultimately lose some of the old farts like me and erroneous nick (who, I might add, I've had some heated arguments with in the past, so it's not like this is some hand-holding Kumbaya-singing group of haters - we're just a couple of like-minded old-school TVS fans).

Fair enough, matybe I dont have enough perspective. I found this place several weeks ago after years of following Engadget and Joystiq.
I guess my point is just that the constant complaining - about absolutely everything - makes several posters look like self absorbed, demading whiners. It seems they can do no right and I get tired of all the bitching. Its like the constant shouts of "bias" and "this is so old" over at Joystiq. I just chalk it up to them being immature assholes, and try to ignore them.

Tucker,
Great post and very well put.
Yeah, we've had some disagreements, but I like to think we can "go at it" over what we disagree on in one post and turn right around and have a genial discussion about something we agree on. For myself, a lot of being able to do that comes from being, and staying, married. It's something I've noticed in your posts and a few others which to me indicates how many revolutions around the sun you've likely seen.
To be totally honest, I don't think I've ever encountered someone who I didn't eventually argue with, at least after a certain age when "curmudgeonliness" set in. (Dear God, I hope that's a real word!) Sometimes I feel I must be the oldest person on the damned internet. Tucker is one of those people who can argue with me over something and know it's not personal and only about whatever we happen to disagree on.
Getting on track, the point we're making (and Tucker's done it so well above I probably shouldn't even bother, but I never shut up) is that we love this site and our complaints are because we're seeing something we love change in a way we don't like. I made specific mention of layout, but that's really superficial to the content and direction. I'm nearing the point where I just don't much care about, or for, TVSquad any more. If I left I know it would probably make a lot of people very happy, but I seriously don't want to go away.
Chalk it up to being married for longer than most of the commenters here have probably been breathing, but I tend to stick around through bad times. Usually things work out even if it's not always exactly the way I want them to. Even so, we all have our breaking point and I'm not relishing finding what mine is, so I hope I don't have to.
Now that I've made my pointless ramblings for the moment, I'll head back to my wild Saturday night of cooking 6 gallons of homemade salsa and drinking a wee bit of my latest bottle of single-malt scotch whiskey. Here's looking forward to many more arguments, and agreements, with you Tucker! :o)

omg, i gotta say that your guy's justifications for bitching is sooooooooooooooooooo weak...
you must remember bitching and constructive critisism are not the same thing...
heres some contructive critisism (in your style):
i love this site and would love to see you shut up, cause it seems like this site was great until your guys bitching started, now i dont read this site as much..
since the owner of this site hasnt accommodated my every whim and the site isnt being designed to my exacting desires, i will go hang myself with a bungie cord...never to return to this site that has thrown me into such a state of dispair and anguish... woah is me!!!!

One thing the internet has an endless supply of is smart-assed children with little or no grasp of the English language.
If you want your points to be taken seriously you should pay attention in school so you can get this elusive thing known as an "education". Whilst there you will have the opportunity to learn how to properly spell words the average third-grader should know, and as a bonus you might even acquire the rudimentary skills needed to capitalize and punctuate your sentences better than a drunken orangutan.
In your present state, you just come across as the ignorant and cocky child you are. Unless you can present your arguments in a more coherent manner, you'll never be regarded as more than a nuisance, much like a mosquito.

My two cents about the length of the article:
I don't have showtime, but was curious about this series. I'm glad that he went into as much tasteful detail as he could. Everyone watches Prison Break and BSG after all, so there's not as much need to recap, I think.
Keep up the good work!
