As much as some of us would like to rise above the media saturation that inevitably follows certain events (the recent death of Anna Nicole Smith being one example), it's not always an easy thing to do. Unfortunately, by the time the media coverage has receded and we can begin looking at the situation with better clarity, the focus has already shifted to the next Big Story.
The stories don't end once the media has lost interest, however, which is why I like the idea behind the National Geographic series The Final Report. I can't say much about the series, as I've never seen it, but I love the idea of coming back to stories that were once diluted by sensationalism. Previously, the series has gone back and delved into such headlines as the Waco tragedy, the suicides at Jonestown, and the LA riots. A new season of the series kicks off on March 13 with new insight on the following events:
- "Standoff at Ruby Ridge" (March 13, 9:00 p.m.)
- "The O.J. Simpson Trial" (March 13, 10:00 p.m.)
- "Bombing Over Lockerbie" (March 27, 10:00 p.m.)
- "Columbine" (April 3, 10:00 p.m.)
- "Watergate" (April 10, 10:00 p.m.)
- "Clinton Impeachment" (May 1, 10:00 p.m.)
