(S02E19) After all of my complaining through the past few episodes ... OK, the entire season thus far, I'm happy to admit that this episode was actually well done. No huge loopholes worth dwelling on and a couple of surprises to boot. Heck, before this episode I was dreading what would be coming next, when now I'm looking forward to it.
The recording we were waiting to hear was ... unexpected. I'm not sure I could have predicted that. I'm a bit confused as to why such information would make any difference to her when she was planning to leave the presidency anyway. Was it just the embarrassment of the situation? Does she have other plans?
I'm honestly stumped as to what could be going on with the soon-to-be ex-President. Was she planning to announce her cancer all along or did the threats forcer her hand? It really doesn't matter if she has cancer or not at this point, as her presidency is basically over.
Most of the actions in this episode make for what could be an interesting third season. I think everyone was wondering how another season could be dragged out of this show, but with the brothers having a completely different goal in mind (hiding and not revealing the truth), things could get rather interesting.
What I'd like to know is why Bill Kim was chasing Linc and Michael all this time when the president was going to step down anyway. What could they really have that would be so threatening to anyone? Now that the recording is useless, why would Kim and Mahone hunt them down other than the fact that they're fugitives? Hopefully along with the plot holes we won't have these unfulfilled questions to be answered.
What is with Sucre asking Bellick to take him back to the States? Is it just because he feels he could somehow get the money ahead of Bellick? If so, that's got to be the most disappointed part of the episode. Or was it Sara falling for the closing door trick? Mahone not just looking in the closet or under the bed in the first place? Or maybe the very strange flight pattern Bellick took to get to Mexico?
I know, I did say this was a good episode, and it was ... for Prison Break.

As I watched it, I don't believe she has cancer at all. I think she came up with that on the fly because she DOESN'T want anyone to know about that tape. She's of no use to either Scofield or the company. She was in a no win scenario and chose to end her presidency as a result.
Of course, now the company can kill her with a perfect alibi.

Keith, I don't think she was planning to leave but chose to announce this "illness" to nullify the value of the tape. And it did.

Keith... holy shit man, I'm "a big fan" of yours, but holy shit.... how much more badly could you have missed the point(s) of this episode? Oh man, dude.... not cool AT ALL. You been sleeping through these, or hitting Mahone's pills or something? Just.... wow, sorry to be a dick, but wow.
Ha, I've almost got to wonder that if this is the episode you LIKED of this season, would you have hated it if you actually understood it?
I hate being harsh to a favorite reviewer, I really do, but I almost have to think this review was ghost-written by some of the other dolts around this site lately.....

Hey Tucker, as always, thanks for reading. :)
Seriously, it still pains me to watch this show. And without me, nobody would be reviewing it. Admittedly I sometimes doze off into doing something else while watching these episodes because it's just so inferior to other shows on TV. Case in point, I can't wait for this show to be over because I have Heroes to look forward to next.
What the hell point was I missing? That the president claimed cancer in order to get everyone off her ass? Well in fact that brings up an interesting other plot hole -- without terminal cancer, she'd have a lot of explaining to do to the American public when she doesn't die within the next two years. Like the country...no, the WORLD wouldn't be watching over her declining health all that time?
This show's not worth the added breath I'd give it in the review. I don't see what more "depth" I'd get out of it, no matter how good I thought this episode was over the past other shit piles. And I'll say the same for any other TV Squad bloggers who have the balls to break it to fans that they watched a complete worthless piece of junk of an episode. Some maybe don't know the difference, but that's their prerogative -- we're shills for nobody.

Keith,
I suppose I could forgive your misunderstanding of the cancer announcement. I agree that she would be put under public scrutiny, however I felt it was quite clear that she was merely saving her own ass.
What's not so forgiveable is your blatant misunderstanding of what was going on in mexico. What in the world led you to believe that Sucre and Bellick were going to go back to the US. It was QUITE clear that t-bag is now in mexico with the $5 million dollars, and Sucre will help Bellick find the money IN mexico so as to AVOID going back to the US.
And yes, I will agree that Tucker is an ass.

Hey man, I'm not looking for a shill. Hell, I'll review the episode and be as constructive as anyone, but I'm telling you right now - it sounds more and more like you sit there with a beer reading a magazine only to occasionally take a glance at the screen. You haven't been this critical of increasingly crappy BSG episodes... what, you're afraid Dorv and Akbar will look you up in the white pages?
It seemed pretty clear to me that she pulled cancer out of her ass at the last minute to avoid bringing down the wrath of "the company." Sure, does that bring up issues? Of course it does, but no bigger issues than having her supposed-dead brother alive and well chilling in a cabin somewhere. If they can fake his death, why is it a stretch to fake hers?
Shills... ha, that's so funny. I'd be glad to write some of these reviews. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure plenty of more qualified people were lined up for the last FEW rounds of open calls for bloggers - a fact which I've held some restraint in mentioning. Instead, it seems TVS has gone out of their way to find the lowest-common denominator. It's one thing to hire people who are willing to keep an open mind about a show and another thing entirely to sit there week to week saying "gee, I hate this pile of crap and can't wait for it to be over." Well guess what: it's still on the air, and apparently people DO find some worth in it - especially when you see the comments piling up every week with more criticism of the reviewers than the actual show. Give me a ring, you guys have my resume on file, if you're so damn tired of the review I'd be glad to spend some extra time - and you'll hear it here first: I'd be glad to review Prison Break gratis.
Hell - while we're at it... What's with the double standard around this joint? You've got some posts that are nothing but a damn recap, then you've got some of you sitting here going "thisshowiscrapthisshowiscrapthisshowiscrap" for like 400 words. Pick one and stick with it! Sheesh.

OK, you don't like this show and you're pointing out plot holes that don't even exist to back you up. If it was a show you liked, maybe you'd think ahead and just say "she'll fake the cancer". It's not much of a leap, but you aren't willing to take it because instead of watching and/or enjoying this show, you just sit around while it's on and occasionally listen to a phrase that out of context, makes it seem like there's another plot hole.
Just stop reviewing this show because right now it would be better to have nothing than listen to your bleary-eyed postings on how much you hate this show.

Prison Break rocked tonight! Indeed, Reynolds just concocted the cancer story to save her own ass. I did not see the incest angle coming though! Wow!
Another way I thought they might go with the Reynolds story was to have Kellerman ironically assasinate her just before she pardoned the brothers. Weren't you just waiting for Kellerman to jump up at the press conference??? :-)
Honestly, I thought they'd also go the predictable route and have Sucre mess things up by going after the money. Nice to see that he had some restraint. Too bad Belick caught up to him, but it should leave some interesting options for next episode's showdown with T-Bag.
Glad to see C-Note made it out of last week's cliffhanger alive. Maybe we'll see him get back to his family yet.
I hope the spoiler rumors I've been hearing about Sarah's status by the end of the season are not true...

Todd -- Yep, totally missed that point. For some reason I thought they were still in the States at that airport, as I *thought* the guy at the luggage claim was speaking English without accent, which I guess seemed odd if they were in Mexico. But I can't check that detail now.
Tucker -- Ah that explains everything, you're a disgruntled applicant. You're not alone there and we hear from a few other outspoken applicants who also didn't make the cut. I'm not sure why you think your harsh comments here will help you any.
I'm not going to defend my Battlestar reviews because, like with this show, I'm honest about how *I* felt about the show, not what I think you think I should feel. Christ, in one of my Battlestar reviews I basically told Jane Epsenson that the episode she co-wrote sucked, and she's been extremely kind to me. If that's not enough to prove I speak the truth, then you're reaching.
I'll admit I laughed out loud when you said it looked as though I drank a beer while watching this episode because I was wishing I was doing that very thing. Mmmm....Beer.

Joe -- If it'll help you any, I could do a huge post on the multitude of plot holes in this show, most if not all of which are unresolved or are unlikely to ever be resolved.
Truthfully, I'm sorry if you don't feel the same about this show as I do, that you merely feel lured into watching it because of the investment made to this point. Hey, you've only got to put up with me for a few more episodes until this show's over and then we'll likely not review it next season. Or at least I won't be.

Look, don't take the disgruntledness to make the fact that you really have been (and admittedly so, by your own accounts) half-assing these reviews. Christ, I'd hate to see what the posts would be like if you were reviewing 24:
"Jack Bauer did some Jack Bauer stuff. Some guy's finger got cut off. Then they did a split screen and showed the credits. Overall, I'd say this was a mediocre episode."
But, yeah, like Todd said - you missed the fact that they were in Mexico? I mean, Sucre has been *in* Mexico for like three episodes now. Honestly, at this point, I think a lot of us would just rather not have TVS run a review of the show if it's going to be four lines long from someone with open disdain for the show. Ok, cool, write it how you feel, however you want to put it. But why even bother to have a review from someone who clearly just straight-up doesn't like the show? Isn't it a waste of your time as much as it's a waste of ours? I really don't get the logic.
As for "not making the cut," well, no hard feelings - especially considering the obvious quality of people you're looking for, what with rampant errors, terrible grammar and obvious lack of, you know, paying attention to the shows and whatnot. Like I said, I've refrained from even bothering to mention it, because I believe all's fair. But when the old-hat reviewers are putting forth crap-ass reviews and the new crop just suck, then it's an issue for someone who's been a very loyal reader of the site for quite a long time.
Look, like I said, this is one of those suspension-of-disbelief shows, just like 24. It's a good time. Hell, eight guys broke out of prison under ridiculously contrived circumstances. We get that there's not going to be a completely plausible explanation for everything, so just chill the hell out. And, if you want to get into bitching about all the inconsistencies, put forth some text that at least shows you've been paying attention the whole time.

Well, at least this time my comment critical of TVS wasn't just deleted. Maybe it's because this time the blogger in question feels they have a leg to stand on, which in this case, he doesn't.
You've stated your contempt for this show over and over again, including defending yourself in the comments. Let me say I don't have to 'put up with' you, because I'm letting you off the hook. As someone who thinks Prison Break should be given a fair chance as a source of entertainment, I'm letting you off the hook. I no longer think it's nescessary for you to review the show and I fully support your decision to eventually ditch it.
However, if you want to compromise just a little bit, maybe you should drop it right now. I'll keep you informed about what happens to Lincoln and Michael so that you can feel you've got some 'returns' on the 'investment' of your precious time.

Keith - please, let someone else review it for the last few episodes. Like I said, I'll be the first to jump up and volunteer to do it gratis, and I can even promise to do that durn spellin' 'n grammerz rite, unlike a lot of TVS bloggers. I won't even complain if they want to pay you for the posts I write - in fact, I don't think a lot of us even care if *I* write it, as long as someone who *pays attention* writes it. If I'm too "disgruntled" or whatever to do it, pull someone else out of the pool. Step right up! Keith needs a break on Mondays! Any other takers?

Hi. Welcome to the TV news blog where we all hate TV. We hate Studio 60, we hate Prison Break and oh sweet Jesus, do we ever hate Lost. Yeah, most of the visitors here that would read individual reviews of a show are probably fans of the show. But hey, let's tell them week in and week out that their show sucks.
I believe that the point Keith misses is that most of us could care less that you guys get paid to do what you do. But knowing that you do get paid, we kind of expect a little quality. Not many of us would put up with advertising at an unpaid, free blog that is a piece of crap. Yet, we put up with it here, and really shouldn't have to. Stop playing both sides TVSquad, and either be professional or amateur. Keith and all other TVSquadders.... please do your entire reading audience a huge favor, and spend 15-20 minutes today reading blog articles over at the TVGuide website... it's a great example of how not to crap all over everyone's favorite shows.
No one wants to read my weekly "BSG really sucks and I hate it" blog postings, I'm sure no one really wants to read your "Prison Break is just soooo unbelievable" entries either.
Ever watch "The Office?" Isn't it just unbelievable that a documentary crew would record at an office for 3 straight years, AND that none of the people in said Office would ever watch their show on TV? Shouldn't everyone know that Dwight and Angela are together, shouldn't Roy know about Jim and Pam, shouldn't Jan know how Michael behaves when she isn't around, or Kelly know what Ryan really thinks about her? Of Course not, that's ridiculous. It's called suspended disbelief, and even 4 year olds can do it watching Taking fish and whatnot up on the movie screen.
Am I being overly critical? Perhaps. But I would like to give this blogger the same type of review he gives Prison Break every single week.
*Disclaimer: I have never applied for a job at TV Squad, nor do I have any plans to apply for a job at TV Squad. It's time for us disgruntled and so obviously very very jealous readers to make a free blog run by people that actually like the medium. Because really, it's the same damn thing every day/week here. But go ahead and rip me apart as you did Trever or whatever that guy's name was. I'm sure I'm just jealous too, but go for it - rip me to shreds, it's not like your readers mean much to you anyway if you're going to accuse jealousy for someone making a very valid point.

I really enjoy this show. It's pretty suspenseful, nothing like "Heroes" (which is the BEST SHOW EVER!), and sometimes, it does get a little predictable (such as tonight's ep, when Mahone closed the door while inside the room - saw that coming a mile away) but overall, it's still tops in terms of characters. They've got a nice mix of people going in. Skewed in terms of gender, but that's fine as long as there are characters who you can root for or sympathize with or even hate (which means the actors are doing a good job). But anyway...
Keith, I am also surprised that you didn't catch the fact that Reynolds announcing she had cancer was the only way she could get out of working for "the company" or getting screwed over by "the company" if she gave presidential pardons to Burrows and Scofield. She obviously doesn't have cancer and she probably would've hid like her brother because she has nowhere to go with nothing to do. That, or she's probably going to be killed by "the company" because, really, there aren't many options there anymore. (And the fact that Patricia Wettig is now a regular on "Brothers & Sisters" might have something to do with it.) It no longer matters that Reynolds committed incest (which is still a, "whoaa... didn't think that was on the tape," moment for me). You did raise a good question concerning how or why Kim and Mahone would bother looking for Linc and Michael now. They might just continue hunting them down because it's just a job to finish. C-note knows none of this, but still had to be caught, and Mahone still had a job to finish. Same could be applied to Linc and Michael. They are still fugitives from the law. Technically, they could find new things to use against the new president too. Plus, as we saw, they have tickets to flee the country. Who knows - endless possibilities.
Also, I can't believe you think Sucre is asking Bellick to take him back to the states. He went to Mexico in the first place so he could AVOID the authorities. He cares abt the 5 mil T-Bag brought into the country, but not enough to really leave his pregnant girlfriend. Sucre's deal was to make Bellick leave him alone and then send him along his merry way back to the states, probably with (most of) the 5 mil, and maybe even with T-Bag in custody.
How did you miss all that? I can understand if you don't like the show, but if you've noticed you have a tendency to doze off because you hate it so much, don't review it. Ask for a different assignment or something. And if you are sticking it to the end of the season, at least put in the effort of reviewing instead of bashing. That way, other people reading these blogs don't read the bashing of the reviewer along with it.
