I guess ol' Reege is finally slowing down.Last year, when he hosted America's Got Talent, Regis Philbin was following a schedule that would tire out just about anyone, much less a 76-year-old (who, I must admit, is probably in much better physical shape than people half his age). Every week, he did his show with Kelly Ripa from his New York home base, then fly out to L.A. to do the weekend installments of Talent. That's a lot of flying, even if it's all in first class.
But no more. There were rumors floating around that Philbin wouldn't host the second season of the Simon Cowell-produced Talent, and those were confirmed today when schlockmeister and Dancing with the Stars reject Jerry Springer was named the show's host.
Actually, Springer is a wise choice for this show. On his syndicated talk show (now in its -- gulp! -- 16th season), Springer has to deal with all manner of freaks and other assorted personality types, so dealing with the wacky and wild amongst the Talent contestants shouldn't be much of a stretch for him. At times, Regis looked a little peeved when he dealt with some of the weirder contestants, and of course the "spontaneous" arguments between judges Brandy, David Hasselhoff, and Piers Morgan likely wore on The Grumpy One's patience, as well. Considering he usually has 300-pound men and women throwing haymakers over who is a particular baby's daddy, a tiff between The Hoff and Brandy should be a walk in the park to Springer.

Yeah, with Springer as the host the whole entire program will become one big white trash slugfest, just like Springer's grotesque show. Simon, please get a better a host...

InL.A., I was thinking the same thing. I wouldn't be suprised if the losers didn't start ripping off clothes and exposing body parts.

I just can't imagine Regis Philbin handling America's Got Talent and his daytime talk show. All that flying back and forth from New York to LA and back to New York must have gotten to him. He should stick with Live with Regis and Kelly. I think that Jerry Springer's stock has increased ever since he got on Dancing with the Stars. I liked that he is the new host of America's Got Talent--didn't like Regis' stint on it last summer. But Regis is still in very good shape for 76--I don't know how he does it!
But one question--how is this going to affect his daytime talk show in Chicago? I'm just imagining the nervousness those producers and staff are facing now of what his decision will be. Is Jerry going for another season? Is he going to walk away from it? If he does, good, because I'm sick and tired of seeing confrontational guests scuffle and fight each other over bad relationships on his show. It's getting OLD and tired! It worked for several years, but the public's moved on to other talk shows like Ellen. And Jerry even confronted one of the guests and stood his ground! He needs to take his money and walk away from that talk show! They seem more toward Steve Wilkos, the bodyguard who's starting his talk show this fall.
