Kiefer Sutherland thinks it's a possibility.
He told the Chicago Sun-Times' Doug Elfman he sometimes thinks that, at the end of 24's run, it might make sense to have the intrepid Jack Bauer character meet his maker.
Either that, or have Jack reunite with estranged daughter Kim Bauer and Bauer's former gal pal, Audrey Raines and, presumably, ride off into the sunset.
Sutherland also told Elfman that, when it comes to torture, he doesn't condone the methods his fictional alter-ego uses to interrogate people. "I very strongly disagree with the idea that we need Jack Bauers out there in the world doing that," Sutherland said.

Jack has come so close to being knocked off, so many times, that if they actually had him killed now it would be ridiculously anticlimactic. Besides -- as he said himself this season (following years of fighting, months of torture and all that family drama), "To be honest with you, it would be a relief." Where's the fun in that?
Actually, the worst ending imaginable for Jack would be to send him out into retirement in the middle of nowhere, with no one to talk to but Audrey Raines, daughter Kim, and President Palmer's sister Sandra. And no cell-phone reception.

i'm sure he isn't alone, but that's only because we've never actually had a nuke go off in our borders. believe me, if LA or DC got nuked you'd see a LOT of 180s in thinking when it comes to torture for info.
it's almost funny how SERIOUS everyone takes the torture in this show. you can't have a debate on something like torture without applying all the circumstances it was used for.

I really DO hope Jack dies in the final minutes of 24. I think it would be the most fitting end of all for Mr. Bauer, I mean, what is he supposed to do, retire, naw, Jack Bauer doesn't retire, he gets retired...
