So, do you still watch the network news at night?
I watch it, but not every night. I usually channel surf and watch one of the news broadcasts or maybe a repeat of Will and Grace or Seinfeld if there's a good episode on. But there are still a lot of people who watch the broadcasts (mostly an older demographic, judging from the ads they run), and it looks like ABC's World News is hot right now. The show will win the February sweeps ratings for the first time since November 2001 (in both total viewers and the 25 to 54 demo), and while Gibson's show has gained 60,000 viewers, The NBC Nightly News has lost an average of 570,000.
Oh, and rumor has it that Katie Couric does a newscast over on CBS too.

I have been watching Charlie since the his first day at GMA...he's honest, a person of integrity, one you can trust, but most of all, one who cares. No doubt these traits are being recognized by the rest of America.
They picked the right choice to follow Peter Jennings.

The last time I saw a nightly network news broadcast, it was with Peter Jennings. I got sick of the ads for seniors--I'm in my mid-30s, and I felt like I was watching a show that wasn't for me, like "Matlock." Not to mention that there's no analysis, only maybe 18 minutes of "news", and really not worth the time. And local "news" is horrible, on par with most cable network "news."
I do find myself watching some part, if not all, of "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" on most nights. That and "The Daily Show/The Colbert Report" are the only video news/commentary I get. I do read a decent newspaper every day, and 2 on Sundays, and I read one of the newsweekly magazines. I also read news sites, the New York Times, and assorted blogs online. So I'm not uninformed; I just don't have the stomach or interest for most TV "news."

Maybe NBC shouldn't report on lame studies that claims that college students are selfcenter. How do you do a study of that anyways? Flawed. Instead maybe they should report on a study that found 75% of HS students are bored with school and thats why they skip and drop out.

I am not surprised Brian Williams is losing the viewers. Remember his ridiculously irrelevant and offensive remarks on NBC Olympics opening ceremony. This guy is too arrogant and self-centered.

I'm just wondering if Katie Couric will ever crawl out of the basement and get some ratings?

Charlie Rules I have always watched ABC world news BECAUSE Charlie Gibson reminds me of Walter Cronkite the same HONEST,CLEAR VIEW of what the news should be NBC had it with Brokaw the lost it with Williams, last week the arrogance of this man just astonds me he and NBC have lost their focus, the issues, the facts, I feel like Williams, Matthews, Carlson, Scarbrough, O"Donnell, are part of a group ot elitist who think they are reporting the news but are actually spinning their own agenda. CBS and Mr Gibson are accurate, [non-biased) and it comes through, go CBS, and I am one viewer who appreciates the news, not political pundits telling me their opnion and acting like mine is wrong. Mr Williams you are NO TOM BROKAW>

I see NBC news fired their producer they should have fired Brian Williams, he is the reason viewer are leaving in droves, Charlie Gibson IS A NEWSMAN, he does not ACT the news he gives the news. Williams and the rest of the NBC team Matthews, Carlson, Scarbrough, O'Donnel, ect give their agendas and then think we buy what are saying, the shouting, the negativeity, and biased reporting are finally being seen through. Mr Gibson has long been a favorite on mine, and since Mr Brokaw left I turned to ABC, NBC is becomming Fox news with their bunch of "political pundits" really do you think I care what Ed Rodgers, Ron Christine, Kate O'Berne, Mike Barnicle think, don't care, Charlie is as they used to say about Mr Cronkite honest, issued driven, and not agenda biased, NBC lost it a long time ago, Williams is no Brokaw, Matthews is no Russert, Tucker well he's so biased, Scarbrough needs to do more tabloid it's his thing, By the way I do like Pat Buchanan, & Craig Crawford they at least keep it real. Charlie has proved that if you hang in there people will come if you tell the news and leave your own agenda out of it we are not the elitist DC bunch we do listen we do read and guess what we know frauds when we see them. Also why fire the producer the real problem is your anchor, hey NBC do yourselfs a favor hire a real newsperson Diane Sawyer ring a Bell?

I was a loyal viewer of NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw. I never liked Williams, even when he was the back-up to Brokaw. I thought the NBC anchor job should have gone to Siegenthaler (the weekend guy).
When Couric got the CBS job I was all for her. I thought it was great a woman got the job and I thought she had the news chops for it, even though she did a lot of fluff on Today. But, I quit watching her - mainly because of the content of the show - not because of her. Too much special intrest crap and not enough hard news.
If I watch network news I now usually watch ABC. Gibson is great. He doesn't come with all the baggage that the others do. He's just a newsman.
However, I usually watch CNN and know all the top stories of the day in about 30-45 minutes. The networks can't come close to that with their 18 minute news shows.
